I especially enjoy the dining room and the sink side of the kitchen. It looks nice and homey, and the overall feel I get is "Carrie Bradshaw's apartment."

I really want to paint. And hang things. In fact, it sort of drives be crazy that all our walls are bare for the moment.

What's stopping you?

Lack of money, mostly. I have my paint colors already selected, and David approves of my choices.

As for hanging things, money is a LOT of it, but laziness is a small part, too. I have a large picture frame that holds multiple pictures. I've always filled it with black and white pictures of my family and friends. David and I want to update it to include more recent shots and include his family in there as well, but we don't currently have any pictures we like enough to print.

Also, we were both really adamant that we put lots of time into making this our home and making sure it reflects who we are, as opposed to just throwing whatever posters we have leftover from college up onto the walls.

I've been slowly tracking down art and prints that I love. As soon as I get a job I'll start saving for them. There's a local artist who has a painting up in a restaurant (for sale) that I LOVE. But it's soooo far out of my price range.

Here are a few of the prints I want to snatch up just as soon as I can.

I looooooooooove these Ork graphic prints. I really wanted Boston represented on my walls somehow. I stumbled upon these, and they would look PERFECT hung together in my living room.

I always need new bookshelves. I just built another seven foot tall, two foot wide shelf with nine shelves and it is already full. :-p of course its full of dvds which were stuffed elsewhere. It's amazing how stuff takes up space.

today I bought, assembled and installed: a three tier standing fruit basket (40% off!), a hand towel ring for the bathroom, a robe hook for the bathroom, a small lamp for the 'end table' I built for my bedroom out of scraps from the shelves yesterday, and I threw away tons of trash, did six loads of laundry (including the bedding) and a load of dishes and plan on doing more extensive cleaning, including another load of dishes, sweeping, swiffer, vaccum, and scrub down the stovetop.

And now I want a knife magnet too.

anyways I need to dash off to the dry cleaner next door to see if they're open, if they are I'm dropping off the comforter (says dry clean only and I don't think I've ever cleaned it) and my jacket.

somewhere I need to find time to make cookies.

We have three more full book shelves in rooms not pictured, and about ten boxes of books still in storage. To say we need more bookshelves is perhaps an understatement. And I am never ever moving again, because I can't bear to carry all those books up and down stairs one more time. Such is my lot for loving the literary like-minded.

Aside from a few pictures that the boys drew that I don't have frames for yet, the baby's room is done.

Her room is absolutely adorable! I love the color scheme, and the flowers.

I'm always astounded with the colors that brown can go with, but you have proven pink to be quite the good match.

And as for the flowers, well, you probably already know that they're amazing, so I'll say no more.

I LOVE it, Steph. In an ideal world, Ginny's room would be pink and brown as well. We have a brown and pink quilt and a few accents in her room that are those colours. It's such a great combination (though, you know that in 20 years those girls will go "What were you thinking?").

Wow, Steph! That is one of the most pulled together, stunning little baby's rooms I've ever seen not to mention it's mature enough looking to age gracefully. *thumbs up*

Thanks, everyone. I've worked really hard on it and I'm really proud of it. I'm SO not a crafty person, so this is BIG for me. I'm glad you all seem to love it as much as I do! Just wait to see how cute it is when there's a baby in there!!!

I have never liked pink and brown. Always thought it a terrible combo.

Now having said that, I think that baby room is simply adorable and lovely and perfect.

I finally managed to get my elemental series of pictures up on the wall, last night. I'll try to get a decent picture of them yet as they are, but I'm still in the process of just trying to get good individual pictures so that I can do a series of prints.

Now that I've moved to a place I'm proud of, I thought I'd share/brag a little





Oh, and because I realize I'm the most boring person on the planet when it comes to "accessories," if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Bonus points if you can help me pick place settings / a centerpiece for the awesome glass table I inheireted.

First of all, clarify for me: are the colors on the walls gray and beige, more or less? I wasn't born with the girl gene that tells me the proper names with a glance.

You'll need stuff on the walls, either framed pictures or art of some sort but it's hard to make suggestions without seeing more. Couch color, for instance.

Also, you may not be interested in buying/finding new bedding but I think what I see there is a little too close to the wall color. It should, in my opinion, be considerably lighter or darker and less matchy. A dark chocolate brown would look good, as would a cream. Accent colors...a blue, maybe? I'm not good at this stuff without having the materials in front of me.

Table stuff: I kind of detest placemats for the most part, at least for display. If you get some and bring them out for use, they can be both functional and attractive. That's a weird kitchen to me, in that it seems like a gray wall (hopefully that's just the flash making it look different) with brown cabinets and tile. Either way, a nice metal scultpure, small of course, could make a nice centerpience.

I'm totally excited about starting from scratch to decorate our new place. We're hoping to have a bit of a steampunk inspired look to our house. Man, I love being geeks.

Do take before and after pictures! I'm really curious what ideas you have for it!

My mom took some of the posters off of my closet doors and I haven't put them back up yet. I haven't decided if I want to put the same ones up or something different, I have some from my old apartment that I quite liked, actually, so maybe one of those. Currently, I have a world map (it looks like this one) & this interesting graphical poster is the only other thing I have up, which is on top of a Hogwarts banner... I also have a toy owl in a bird cage that was borrowed permanently from my mother's old classroom that is supposed to be Hedwig. I kind of love how incredibly random it all is, though. And how most of the decoration is just an explosion of books.

This prompted me to reopen my Chicago notebook, in which all my delusional and non-delusional ideas and thoughts are housed by way of a budget checklist. I didn't put "decorating" or "furniture" in there. ha. I did, however, include all the important stuff and worked that out to fit within my minimum allowable moving total. I should have at least 5 Gs more than my minimum allowable moving total and although I don't want to spend all of that on decorating/furniture, I should be able to pull something off and have enough left over to cover for whatever delusional ideas were more pricey than I planned for.

I really can't wait to be living in a general region long enough to make it worthwhile to get stuff like furniture and to actually settle a little without having to worry about how we will move it all across an ocean/continent.

LOL It's even more difficult seeing as the pictures make it appear as though the various walls are different colours. They're not. They're pretty much all the same colour, which I guess is closest to #5E5A15

You're right, I'm not as proud of that side of the room so I didn't take a picture :-p. I'm super fashionable with a wooden futon with a dark blue (#1A28BF) cushion. I definitely want to buy something for the walls, but I'm also actually considering building some of my own 'art' to put on the walls, I just need some time to flesh out my ideas and build it all first

That's a thought, but I don't think it's a new bedding time for me - I'm not sure I've even been sleeping on this bedding for a year yet. Maybe in my next place.

The back wall is actually a slightly darker version of the colour on the rest of the walls, with light unpainted wood cabinets. Funny how things can change when a flash is involved...must get tripod. I like the metal sculpture idea, though I'm remembering why I always hated doing this stuff though - finding something affordable and worth setting on is bloody impossible, at least for me.
