Yes, but unlike all the rest True Blood is actually for grown ups and filled with compelling characters and stories rather than teen melodrama and cutesy boy-band-wannabe vampires.

Crazy, awesome, crazy show. Gore! Sex! Political Intrigue! Blood!

On the list of shows that got cancelled after one season but were really pretty good, Undergrads was Clone High before Clone High existed. The cheap animation is pretty awkward sometimes, and the jokes sometimes fall flat, but man, if it wasn't great.

I just discovered Misfits - a british show about a bunch of young people doing community service who suddenly get superpowers.
It is weird and good. I've only watched a couple of episodes so far, but there are only 6 anyway.
I like the way that the Brits do TV. They aren't bound by 20-25 episode seasons and shows that never end (see: UK Office vs. US Office) - well, except Dr. Who.

Watch the new Sherlock miniseries from the BBC. 3 90-minute episodes retelling several Holmes stories set in the 21st century. I know how it sounds, but it's written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and it's pretty awesome. It actually incorporates cell-phones, e-mail and other tech in such a way that you'd never notice they'd been tacked on at all, as if Doyle himself had written them in.

A few others who've seen it immediately draw comparisons to the Robert Downey Jr. take on the character. They're very similar in a lot of ways, a lot of the same scenes and other bits of Holmes lore show up in both adaptations, and I think the differences mostly just come down to what Downey and Cumberbatch are respectively comfortable doing. Considering the creators, I can't help but compare Cumberbatch's Holmes to the Doctor, and there are distinct shades of similarity between the characters, but that might simply be because of the influence the original Holmes had on all guile and science heroes. Frankly I think this version's a bit better acted than the theatrical adaptation, but that's just because I prefer this series' more realistic style and characterizations. Downey's Holmes is fun to watch, but he's a bit over-the-top in even the simplest scenes where Cumberbatch is reserved and electric all at the same time.

Older thread, but newer posts, so not really thread necromancy. Gotta give props to Battle of the Planets, though. (7-Zark-7 and 1-Rover-1, et al.)

Others -- Greatest American Hero, Hardcastle & McCormick, Sports Night, Knight Rider (yes, I was around to watch the original series), 21 Jump Street, Benson, Fraggle Rock, Square Pegs, Night Court, Family Ties, Quantum Leap, Via Allegre. These aren't all unknown, but for all you younguns here they might be before your time. This is the stuff I grew up on. M*A*S*H, too, and A-Team, and Love Boat and Fantasy Island back when they were cool. Even Saturday Night Live back when it was funny.

M*A*S*H is still one of my favourite shows. Especially the later seasons with BJ and Potter.

My husband smiled and said "the Japanese version was soooo much better". We actually own some of the G-Force dvds AND he has a bunch of novels.

I watched all these too. I think I'm only a few years younger than you.

Oooh, I watched Night Court and Quantum Leap when I was little and they were still airing. And a lot of Fraggle Rock, but only because Dad had already recorded pretty much every episode on VHS before I was born.

I'm really, really hoping they kill Uther off in this season of Merlin. It's getting frustrating the way the story drags on.

There was a TV series based on the movie. I think The Paper Chase was a movie first, too.

Tonight I watched a "Nature of Things" episode featuring an orphaned baby elephant rescue in Nairobi. Holy CARP, baby elephants are so frickin' cute, especially when there's a whole herd of them! You'll shoulda seen it!

I can't remember if I ever posted this show before, but I really love QI. It's a quiz-show, sorta, where Stephen Fry asks tricky questions to a panel of comedians. Points are given for the correct answer, or for an interesting aside, and taken away for giving the obvious answer (which is usually wrong). It's very entertaining and informative.

Warehouse 13, anyone?
Seen it, pretty good I like it. Though they screwed up a few story elements, like all SciFi shows.

Back from when I was little two cartoons I use to watch that no one has ever heard of. Starting to think my childhood was fabricated by the overlords. Anyone remember or heard of EXO Squad? Or even more unheard of Pirates of Dark Water.

Pirates of Dark Water? I remember that, it's coming out on DVD from Warner Archives this month.

anyone remember an eighties animated tv show where a boy could turn into a red race car if he ate a lot of food (like popeye) and if he got cold (like accidentally drove over a frozen lake) he turned back into a boy?

Adam, I think you're alone on that one, sorry. :)

I'm posting about Being Erica in here, because I think lots of people here would love it, especially Jan, Nomi, Steph, Alea, and Kelly (unless the portrayal of publishing is wildly off, then it would drive her insane).

I forgot to say this earlier. I asked my husband if he remembered this and he vaguely did. Then, I did a quick google search (why yes!) and it was called Turbo Teen.
