The outfit I made for Kinley for the Highland's Festival this weekend. I know it's not authentic, but it's super cute! I bought the plain pink onesie and leggings and everything else was my idea, design and execution. She's going to look amazingly adorable in it!

So, at last, I had the chance to take some photos.
This is the veil I made for my sister in law.
Close up you can see the beading. The beads gave a great weight and feel to it, and they are so very sparkly!

That's awesome, Ali! A lot of intricate work!
Here is Kinley wearing her costume at the Highland's Festival, and me wearing my matching appliqued shirt. (Don't mind me, though. We were camping and I did not look my best!)
I included that last picture, just because you could see Brian wearing a kilt!!

Kinley had to have gotten comments looking like that; that's adorable!
Also, I love your boots, only yours seem to have a heel on them. I haven't had a good pair of boots in years and I miss having them as an option but I like mine to be flat bottomed, like combat boots without being combat boots, and those are very hard to find for women. At least everywhere I've looked.

Flat bottom boots are everywhere here! I've had my eye on a couple pairs at work. I don't mind heals for shorts days, but there is no way I could work in a pair with heels. Also, I love your boots, only yours seem to have a heel on them. I've seen other flat boots that I like well enough -I'm still jones-ing after a pair like the furthest to the right- but like Steph's with no heel?
Granted, I spend next to no time in stores these days but every time I check, the closest I can find all have a heel, which would limit the usefulness since I do so much walking and never quite caught on to the whole "beauty is pain" mantra.

Heee, kilts are so awesome
As for boots, what I don't really get is the "scrunch" design. It's not overly hard to find tall boots out here without a heel out here, though. Most will have one, but it's not hard to find ones without.

Such an adorable outfit, Steph! Does your family have Scottish roots, or are you just a big Highland Games fan? And Brian's outfit was great, too, especially since he didn't just toss on a kilt and call it a day - he has a matching hat and tie, too!

This Saturday I am going to try to sell my earpins and crocheted stuff (from my etsy stores) at a book & tag sale at my local library. It's my first time trying to sell anything in person but even if I sell one thing, it will pay for renting the space. I'm really excited!
Also, as part of my new hobby of Letterboxing, I have taken up rubber stamp carving. The first one is a signature stamp featuring our trail name (Beardie Chimp). The second is one that I made of the mockingjay from The Hunger Games.

Thank you! It has been quite a learning process but I really enjoy it. I always wanted to whittle wood and this is pretty close to it. I haven't created any images from scratch because I'm really not good at drawing but I find a picture and then transfer it to the carving medium and go from there. The Beardie Chimp stamp is one that we will be using a lot, so I actually mounted it onto a block of wood and everything. It looks really professional!

Comments ALL DAY LONG! People just couldn't resist her! You would have lost count.Kinley had to have gotten comments looking like that; that's adorable!

I love my boots! My feet did hurt by mid-day, since they do have a heel. I found them about 9 years ago on sale for 30 bucks! I need to create more opportunities to wear them. When you're a SAHM, there aren't many occasions!
Thanks! My family is mostly English and Danish with a little bit of all the British Isles thrown in. My maternal grandparent's last name is Irish. Brian's family is mostly German, French and English, but recently discovered that he has some Scottish and Irish roots while working on his family history. (In fact, he discovered 2 ancestors with the middle name of Kinley and we didn't know that when we chose it back in march!)Such an adorable outfit, Steph! Does your family have Scottish roots, or are you just a big Highland Games fan? And Brian's outfit was great, too, especially since he didn't just toss on a kilt and call it a day - he has a matching hat and tie, too!
Mostly, we've just been meaning to go to the Festival every year (it's apparently the largest Highland Games in the country) and Brian hasn't successfully taken the time off of work before. This year we planned ahead and had a great weekend!
I thought Brian looked pretty darn good in his kilt outfit! It inspired my mom to make kilts for the boys. She picked up some skirts at the thrift store and is redoing them into kilts. I'm not sure what they're going to wear them for, but they're going to be adorable!

I'm excited to be starting on my Halloween/V-Con costume! There's not a lot to it, but there's a certain amount of hand-stitching.
Anyone have any suggestions for one of those little mini top hat thingies?

Here is the original thread I wrote about the hobby of Letterboxing. The "trail name" is just a name you make up to use while letterboxing in place of your real name. You write it in the logbooks when you find them and stamp in, to show that you have been there.

I'm pondering if I have enough stock to make getting a table at the church craft fair worthwhile. I know there are so many dang tea cozies and floral-printed things at the average bazaar, so it might be nice to have something a bit different. The main problem would be booking days off.

I have been lazy in pursuing the creation of awesome X P cuff links. Even though I now have everything I need to make them. My next day off, methinks.
Also, I lost a button from my moleskin vest, so I may turn the remaining buttons into a set of cuff links as well, as I need to get new buttons for the vest now (as well as a few spares to stitch in the lining so this can't happen again for a very long time).

We finally got some photos back!

Gorgeous!
I got a call from the historical society of my town last night. They are having a gift sale in December and want me to put my earpins and crocheted stuff in it. I don't have to be there (which is good cause I'll be in CA) and they take 25%. I only have a month and a half to get a lot of stuff made!

Oooh! Very awesome!
So today I was about to start work on a doublet, something I've wanted to make for years. And I came across a free pattern a few years ago, which was great. And a few weeks ago I got fabric. And today, as I was pinning pieces of the pattern to the fabric, we realised that it was for a size far larger than I. We went to the fabric store and couldn't find any patterns at all to replace the one I had.
So tonight I will be attempting to follow internet directions to make a pattern for a doublet.

Okay, a few more stamps that I carved:

The other day I made cuff-links from typewriter keys. My dad helped me with cutting them and drilling a hole in the post, but the rest was my manufacture. Perhaps in the morning, if I remember, I will take a picture of them.
When I get new buttons for my vest (as it lost a button recently, alas), I'm going to turn the remaining four buttons into cuff-links as well.
