Fair enough. I don't know much about American whiskeys, although I've been curious to learn. I've mostly stuck to Scotch.
I thought it was rather interesting, in that Man Quiz, how Brits were the only country out of the big four that had whiskey come in second to beer for "manliest drink." The others said scotch.
The great thing about that, of course, being that hops has the effect of actually lowering testosterone ;)

From here
When my kids, both under 4, would scream for Mommy, I'd calmly tell them "There is no Mommy, only Zuul." Eventually they learned that meant mommy was out and don't bother crying. Now the older one will say it to the younger one to get him to be quiet. Ah parenthood! I license to create a new generation of crazy people.

I discovered yesterday two things: 1) I have some guests coming to visit this weekend to sleep on my couch/floor/bed (whichever I can get them to do but they'll probably turn down the bed due to politeness) and 2) I finally have enough extra money saved up to purchase a dining set that isn't completely crappy, but not enough for one that's particularly great, in other words, around $200.

Now, I want to have a dining table and chairs by this weekend, because my apartment will seem very lame and boring without them, in my opinion. However, I don't know any good, cheap furniture stores in the Portland area. I keep getting ads for one place way out by the airport, but I've checked their in-stock on their website and can only find one set in my price range and it's pretty... cheap. Cheap as in cheaply made and uncomfortable-looking. I have Amazon Prime due to a sweeet deal right now involving getting Prime for free if you have a legit e-mail for a university, so I can order a pretty nice dining set that's eligible for free shipping with Prime... but I won't get it for at least a week.

So now for the random question: I know a lot of people are familiar with Portland. Anyone know of any secret awesome places to get inexpensive but quality furniture, including dining tables and chair?

If you don't mind used, I would check craigslist. I've bought and sold lots of stuff through it. You could probably get a much better quality used item for $200.

IKEA's cheap dining tables are all pretty... cheap. They had a pretty nice five-piece dinette the first time I went, but I didn't have money at the time. A week later, I went back... and it was gone.

But yeah, I guess I'll just keep my eyes open on used for now. Durr. That's why I keep you guys around.

While playing on SR, I stumbled upon an entry by the forum founder about knowing your limitations and it added to the mental conversation I've been having with myself for...years, but more strenuously again for the past few weeks.

A lot of people struggle with questions regarding identity, well past the teen years even and well into adulthood, so I know I'm not alone in that regard but even so, I've always felt pretty alone in it. I can get lost in it.

With regards to that link, somewhere along the line, after deciding I didn't want to be arrogant or unaware of my actual abilities/limitations like so many people I had known, I think I stopped simply knowing my limitations and started to kill whatever confidence I had, thus feeding into my insecurities.

It makes me wonder if those people who came across as arrogant really were or if I was simply unable to tell the difference between arrogance and confidence; it's such a fine line, isn't it? That's without going into the possibility that it was faked arrogance or confidence. That's without considering that they were being well within the norm for confidence and I was so insecure, it raised some ugliness in me that made it easier to label them as arrogant rather than face my own shortcomings.

How does a person get their confidence back, assuming they ever had any to begin with? Is it like a muscle that needs to be exercised and if so, what sort of exercises work? Are we talking Jessica's daily affirmation type things? Because even taking it down a notch, I don't know that I'd have it in me to do something like that.

I don't know. Just one of the bajillion things going down in my head these days.

So today at work I found a garbage bag with entrails leaking blood.

Thankfully when the police came (I sure wasn't going to open it any further once I saw that!) it turned out that some fisherman had just left a bag of salmon heads, roe, and guts at the car wash.

Foolish fisherman. Salmon roe makes great bait!

I do so prefer small rounds of ham to strip bacon, though.

Me too. Canadian bacon - even though it's not Canadian- ftw.

..Unless it's pancetta. Hmmm, then pancetta wins the bacon battle.

If i was her, i'd get a neck-collar asap, sue the passenger for assault and injuries, and then the airline for selling tickets to idiots (suing in self-defense, as they'll probably fire her, against all logic).
