The Procrastination Thread

Postby wizzard » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:35 pm

This is a thread for all of you who recognize the true art of procrastination, who can write a 5 page paper in an hour (as long as it's the hour before it's due), who can always find a reason that things can be put off until later.

At the moment, I have 30 pages of history reading, a report about said reading, a test and a chapter's worth of worksheets for German, all due in the next 15 hours, and yet I'm still managing to put it off to post in this thread.

I should be sleeping so I can wake up early and study for a test I have in the morning. Then I should be reading the history and computer chapter I have to read for the next day, all the while preparing for Intro to Jazz which I have tomorrow too.

I really ought to be reading De doctrinia christiana for my Mediaeval Bible class... but I'm posting here, instead.

I should be calling my girlfriend and telling her I am sorry but then again, I didn't do anything and I'm tired of taking the blame when she is at fault.

I should be writing the conclusion to a linguistics Problem Set and doing a Question Response to chapter that I've only just skimmed.

And I'm a tutor for this class. I should probably get my act together.

But on the bright side, my professor knows I kick ass at it, I just like to procrastinate.

i should be SLEEPING.

since i haven't done that in two nights.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I am putting off calling in sick to work, because I feel immensely guilty about it. As I feel absolutely terrible and have no voice, however, I think it is unavoidable.

I am also trying not to think about how much it's going to hurt to talk loud enough for the woman on the other end to hear me.

I should think about some smart reply, instead I just write this and think about it later.

I have what looks to be an insanely difficult midterm in multivariate statistics tomorrow.

Am I studying?

I played World of Warcraft until 9 this evening, in spite of the fact that I have a reaction paper due tomorrow for a reading that I hadn't even finished.

I've also realized that I lost one of my best tools for procrastinating: searching through really old threads, and bumping random ones (especially the "stop bumping random threads" thread).

Yep. That's right, nothing.

Plus all the other stuff due last Thursday that I was planning to e-mail on Monday. That worked out just great.

I'm procrastinating on self-imposed due dates.

I have a meeting at 1 about my cellular engineering project. We're supposed to bring our assigned sections of the project. I'm almost done with mine at noon. And I still need to shower and get dressed and drive over there.

Here's the stuff that's due between now and Dec. 8:
[ ] cellular engineering 20 page report
[ ] Bioc Problem Set
[ ] Numerical Methods Exam
[ ] Instrumentation Lab
[ ] Instrumentation Lab report
[ ] Cellular Engineering Presentation
[ ] Numerical Methods Presentation
[ ] Cellular Engineering 20 page paper
[ ] Numerical Methods 5 page paper
[ ] Instrumentation 20 page paper
[ ] Design Project Prototype
[ ] Design Project Documentation
[ ] Bioc Exam 4

I have a research report due tomorrow which WILL NOT be taken late and all I have to show for it is 23 note cards and the library is closed because its Sunday. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have all internet sources... Oh yeah and the only internet source we are allowed to use is this annoying state made research website that for some reason requires a code.(not that they keep it a secret but its not just printed anywhere)

This is a one-semester class that I am already failing.

Know why? I didnt turn in the rough draft.

Know why? I've already told you. (23 note cards)(no thesis)(etc.)
Negativity is bliss.

Ok, I'm trying to start on this paper, but I have no idea what I'm going to write. Stupid philosophy. Be easy!

(a few hours later) 4.25 pages down, with 1.5 space between lines. If it were double spaced, I bet I'd be done by now.

Finding yet MORE scales and measures for my dissertation. Procrastinating at 2.5 hours strong.

However, I have begun. I do have one self-efficacy scale that I'm looking at seriously. In between seeing if anyone's posted on pweb.

I know two pages is practically nothing. But that doesn't help at all with not wanting to do it.
