Your iPod is Psychic. Really.

Postby Young Val » Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:34 pm

knowing the varied music interests of pweb, this should be pretty amusing.

put your music player of choice on random, and use the songs to answer the questions. no skipping the embarassing ones!!! not all of them will make sense, of course. but they are sometimes spot-on, sometimes creepy, and sometimes hilarious.

1) How does the world see you?
King of Wishful Thinking -Go West

i refuse to give in to my blues
that's not how it's going to be
and i deny the tears in my eyes
i don't want to let you see.. no
that you have made a hole in my heart
and now i've got to fool myself..

i'll get over you.. i know i will
i'll pretend my ship's not sinking
and i'll tell myself i'm over you
'cause i'm the king of wishful thinking..
i'll get over you.. i know i will
i'll pretend my ship's not sinking
and i'll tell myself i'm over you
'cause i'm the king of wishful thinking

interesting. i think the world might view me as the wishful thinking type, not because i'm wishing to get over it, but because i'm wishing for it to back to the way it used to be.

2) Will I have a happy life?
Crushed - Buckcherry

take a drive
down the long winding road
passing everyone,
and your outstanding friend's still drinking
and he drinks with a passion.
it's not enough for me, it's all i think about.
and now i've seen the light
it's all in the faces, crushed.
come on yeah.
do you mind? i'm embarking on plans for destruction,
hell i'm not entertained by the simple life,
and my mama's disgusted.
it's the show and the love on the faces of everyone
that makes all this connecting the right thing,
and i'm lost in the faces.

so i'm doomed to feel this sense of restlessness and displacement forever? nice.

3) What do my friends really think of me?
Meant to Live - Switchfoot

fumbling his confidence
and wondering why the world has passed him by
hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
and failed attempts to fly, fly

we were meant to live for so much more
have we lost ourselves?
somewhere we live inside
somewhere we live inside
we were meant to live for so much more
have we lost ourselves?
somewhere we live inside

dreaming about providence
and whether mice or men have second tries
maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open
maybe we're bent and broken, broken

well.. that's... depressing.

4) Do people secretly lust after me?
Plowed - Sponge

will i wake up
is it a dream i made up?
no, i guess it's reality
what will change us
or will we mess up
our only chance to connect
with a dream?

say a prayer for me
i'm buried by the sound
in a world of human wreckage
i'm lost and i'm found
and i can't touch the ground
i'm plowed into the sound

to see wide open
with a head that's broken
hang a life on a tragedy
plow me under the ground
that covers the message
that is the seed

not very lusty, no.

5) How can I make myself happy?
Frozen in Time - Athenaeum

wherever we are we're frozen in time
there's a pathway to heaven that we couldn't find
are we doomed to repeat this circle of life
frozen in time

oh dear god...

6) What should I do with my life?
Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers

can't stop the spirits when they need you
this life is more than just a read through...

hmm.

7) Will I ever have children?
Suddenly - Athenaeum

please wake me
i don't know if i'm still breathing
please wake me
with one eye closed and one eye beaming
out into the hall
i never really thought that i was anyone at all
'cause everyone around me always made me feel so small
but now that i can see
i've been waiting patiently
for you to come and rescue me from things
i know are sure to come
and i've been waiting here all day
but nothing seems to come my way
i know i'll never have it all

sooo what? single motherhood, here i come?

8) What is some good advice for me?
Hell Yeah - Ani Difranco

if you don't ask the right questions
every answer seems wrong
i was a terrible waitress
so i started to write songs
and i don't know how i feel
but i wonder if you feel like me
do you ever get wrapped up
in the folds of my memory?
oh, yeah
oh hell, yeah

this makes a strange sort of sense to me...

9) How will I be remembered?
Saying Goodbye - Sugarcult

everytime they put her down, she makes a fist and the tears roll down
she packs her bags and plans to run away from here
and everytime she makes a friend, the vicous cycle starts again
she’s never, ever, ever looking back

she’s saying goodbye and leaving tonight
she’s wasted all her lonely tear drops
she’s saying goodbye and leaving tonight
she’s used up all her lonely tear drops now

hahaha, i'll be remembered as Crying Girl. it's funny cause it's true.

10) What is my signature song?
Out of Range -Ani Difranco

just the thought
of our bed
makes me crumble like the plaster
where you punched the wall beside my head
and i try
to draw the line
but it ends up running down the middle of me
most of the time

baby i love you
that's why i'm leaving
there's no talking to you
and there's no pleasing you
and i care enough
that i'm mad
that half the world don't even know
what they could have had

i was locked
into being my mother's daughter
i was just eating bread and water
thinking: nothing ever changes
and i was shocked
to see the mistakes of each generation
will just fade like a radio station
if you drive out of range

oooooooooh, wow.

11) What do I think my current theme song is?
Kissing You (Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet) by Des'ree

watching stars without you,
my soul cried.
heaving heart is full of pain,
oh, oh, the aching.

oh GOD...

12) What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
Sweetness - Jimmy Eat World

i'm still running away
i won't play your
hide and seek game
i was spinning free
with a little sweet
and simple numbing me
what a dizzy dance
this sweetness will not
be concerned with me

odd.

13) What song will play at my funeral?
No Rain - Blind Melon

i just want some one to say to me
i'll always be there when you wake
ya know i'd like to keep my cheeks dry today
so stay with me and i'll have it made
and i don't understand why i sleep all day
and i start to complain that there's no rain
and all i can do is read a book to stay awake
and it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

you know, i'm disturbingly pleased about this one.

14) What type of men/women do I like?
Hey Jealousy - Gin Blossoms

tell me do you think it'd be all right
if i could just crash here tonight
you can see i'm in no shape for driving
and anyway i've got no place to go
and you know it might not be that bad
you were the best i'd ever had
if i hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
i might not be alone
tomorrow we can drive around this town
and let the cops chase us around
the past is gone but something might be found
to take its place...hey jealousy

we have a winner!

15) What is my day going to be like?
Fell in Love With a Boy - Joss Stone

fell in love with a boy
i fell in love once and almost completely
he's in love with the world
and sometimes these feelings can be so misleading
he turns and says, "are you alright?"
oh, i must be fine cause my heart's still beating

and we'll just stop there, before the bit about cheating.

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

that's the best part. this is the shuffle on my full playlist, not my break up mix. none of my weird stuff like the newsies soundtrack or unground rap made the cut this time around. i'll have to try again to predict another day.

Life has been such poetry since you've been gone.

What should I do with my life?
6. Sing-The Dresden Dolls
I like this one.

Will I ever have children?
7. Portions for Foxes-Rilo Kiley
Does that mean if I do they'll get eaten by foxes? Or be bad news?

What is some good advice for me?
8. Take Lots with Alcohol-Alkaline Trio
Oh... well, uh... yes, excuse me, I'm going off to die now.

How will I be remembered?
9. So Cold I Could See My Breath-Emery

What is my signature song?
10. Duvet-Boa
Ha. Haha. Heh.

What do I think my current theme song is?
11. Right Now-Van Halen

What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
12. Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl-Broken Social Scene
15 year old?

What song will play at my funeral?
13. Rabbits Are Roadkill on Rt. 47-AFI
Oh, lovely. Great.

What type of men/women do I like?
14. Lover I Don't Have to Love-Bright Eyes
Lordy. This is awful. I am ashamed.

What is my day going to be like?
15. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea-Neutral Milk Hotel
Let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see.
If you ever find yourself reading a book entitled The Bible, you will find yourself reading the story of Adam and Eve, whose daring lives led them to put on clothing for the first time to escape from the snake infested garden in which they were living.

same idea, different categories.

(by the way, i got headphones for my ipod this week. i haven't had head phones for my ipod in over two months. hence the surge in the excitement of that which is ipods and music access).

SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and pretend you're cool.

Opening Credits:
Ready or Not - The Fugees

hmm.. this is a pretty decent opening credits song, i guess. sets an interesting tone. this movie must take place currently, what with my new hardened city-life and all. so not set in the suburbs with this opening.

Waking Up:
Got You Under My Skin - Frank Sinatra

oh, so the movie starts on one of those mornings when my roommates have left their breakfast ishes everywhere, and used all the hot water and mysteriously broken my coffee pot?

First Day At School:
Last Night - The Strokes

so does "school" mean "work" for me? and this song makes me feel as though i'd be arriving hung over... ha.

Puppy Love:
Your House - Jimmy Eat World

HAHAHAHAHA! sooooo funny. cause it's so true.

Fight Song:
Undone (The Sweater Song) - Weezer

well...maybe it's a really... mellow... fight scene.

Breaking Up:
How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) - James Taylor

irony. nice.

Prom:
When You Were Mine - Prince

80'S PROM, Y'ALL!!!!

Life is Good:
Back in the Day - Christina Aguilera

good song. sure, why not?

Driving:
Free Fallin' - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! BEAT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flashback:
Let Go - Frou Frou

awww...

True Love:
Hand in My Pocket - Alanis Morissette

you know what, if i'm gonna be single true-love-wise, i'll take this as my theme song.

Wedding:
Turning Japanese Cover - Kobe

this is the second most depressing cover ever to be recorded int he history of the WORLD. "girls just wanna have fun" covered by ben gibbard is the first.

Moment of Triumph:
Don't Wannt Run - Toby Lightman

hmm...ok.

Death Scene:
Come To Your Senses - Tick, Tick, Boom OC

awww sad song...

Funeral Song:
Easy Like Sunday Morning - Lionel Ritchie

this made me giggle.

End Credits:
Run Around - Blues Traveler.

well alright, then.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Opening Credits:
Breaking Up the Girl - Garbage

Waking Up:
Special Forces - Electrasy

First Day At School:
Perfect - Alanis Morissette

... lovely. So my first day at school will consist of me being told that I'm not good enough.

Puppy Love:
Angel - Sarah McLachlan

Fight Song:
I Will Not Forget You - Sarah McLachlan

Like Kelly, my fight scene is apparently either very mellow or very existential.

Breaking Up:
Walking Years Away - Charlie Mars

Prom:
Bullet the Blue Sky - U2

... that's my prom, huh? Maybe my prom takes place in Sunnydale. That's the only way I can think of that this makes sense.

Life is Good:
Can't Cry Anymore - Sheryl Crow

Okay, that fits pretty well.

Driving:
Losing My Religion - REM

Flashback:
The New Zero - Rasputina

True Love:
At the Stars - Better Than Ezra

Well, that bodes well. I can live with that.

Wedding:
I Can't Dance - Frank Sinatra

Oh, beautiful. This is so uplifting.

Moment of Triumph:
Why Can't I? - Liz Phair

... um? Okay?

Death Scene:
Rent - Movie

So my death is more violent than my fight scene? I guess if you gotta go out, go out with a bang...

Funeral Song:
Walking Back - the Cranberries

End Credits:
Once Upon a Time - Smashing Pumpkins

I'm okay with that.

So it would seem that maybe this is one of those movies that starts at the end then flashes back to the action.

Waking Up:
Now There Is No Choice- Jekyll and Hyde

Er.. that doesn't bode well.

First Day At School:
Southern Girl- Incubus

Uhm.. Ok?

Puppy Love:
FAcade- Jekyll and Hyde

Uhm.. that's really depressing. It's about how everyone lies about everything...

Fight Song:
Independantly Happy- Blue October

I suppose this works.

Breaking Up:
One Jump Ahead- Aladdin

Take that!

Prom:
Stoppin' the Love - KT Tunstall

That's a sad prom

Life is Good:
Under the Weather- KT Tunstall

That's not very nice.

Driving:
Call me When You're Sober- Evanesense

Err... maybe I'm on my cell phone?

Flashback:
Bella Luna- Jason Mraz

I guess it's flashing back to a happy lovey scene or something.

True Love:
Believe- Scarlet Pimpernel

Good
"Stepping on the air, so blindly
I trust you will be there to find me
Like reaching through the blue
I place my faith in you, I do, I do
I believe
These tender hearts of ours
may be endlessly naive
but we grow strong if we believe
this fragile work of ours
spins us off into the storm
hold onto me and i'll be warm
as roses bend to the breeze, unbend me
as the rose bends to the sun
two in love become as one
as waiting on the sea, my love come lean on me
I do
believe in you."

Wedding:
Supercalafragiliciousexpialidocious

Er?

Moment of Triumph:
Letting Go- Fiddler on the Roof

Uhm.. leaving home?

Death Scene:
A crow left to the murder- Incubus

perhaps

Funeral Song:
When I look at You- Scarlet Pimpernel

I guess it works a little.

"I would reach for her, but who can hold a memory"

End Credits:
Into the Fire- Scarlet Pimpernel

Well, I guess it comes full circle back to the beginning in a way.

Up Around the Bend - Credence Clearwater Revival

Sounds good!

Waking Up:
Ballad of William Worth - Phil Ochs

Ooohhh. Not good. Especially given my politics.

First Day At School:
Final Countdown - Europe

Puppy Love:
Ready Steady Go - Paul Oakenfold

Fight Song:
Lou Marsh - Phil Ochs

It has aspects of overtones of a fight, but it's really a memorial. Hmmm.

Breaking Up:
Killer Queen - Queen

Ouch. Losing that sucks.

Prom:
Track 01 - James Cambell

Wow. Some of my friend's techno. Sounds like a fun dance.

Life is Good:
California Dreamin' - The Beach Boys

It isn't, but I can hope!

Driving:
In the Cold, Cold Night - The White Stripes

Great song, but not a driving song.

Flashback:
Track 02 - Taylor Hill

Another of a friend's track. It has a great reminiscent quality. A good fit.

True Love:
King of Pain - The Police

Aw Man!

Wedding:
Holiday - Green Day

Mmm. Protest song. Not a wedding song, but at least I like it.

Moment of Triumph:
Quinn the Eskimo - Bob Dylan

Death Scene:
Still Crazy After all These Years - Paul Simon

Still kickin' on my deathbed? Good deal.

Funeral Song:
True Faith - New Order

Not bad. An uplifting song.

End Credits:
Superstition - Stevie Wonder

Okay, this is the first one I got where I knew all the songs (stupid new CDs I haven't had a chance to listen to yet...)

13. What song will play at my funeral?
"Ready for the Storm" by Kathy Mattea
sounds like something I'd be playing before I die.

14. What type of men/women do I like?
"Darlin'" by the Beach Boys
yeah, not so much. any man that calls me "darlin'" is going to get a strange look at the least, if not smack depending on the context.

15. What is my day going to be like?
"Taxman" by the Beatles
aww crap, lol. it's already started by not having enough time to take a shower before class...
"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"

1. How does the world see you?
Your Eyes- Rent (Original cast version)
Your eyes as we said our goodbyes
Can't get them out of my Mind
And I find I can't hide from
Your eyes

That's a strange beginning...

2. Will I have a happy life?
Juxtaposed With You- Super Furry Animals
You've got to tolerate
All those people that you hate
I'm not in love with you
But I won't hold that against you

3. What do my friends really think of me?
So Hard- Dixie Chicks
And sometimes I just want to wait it out
To prove everybody wrong
And I need your help to move on
Cause you know it's so hard
It's so hard
It's so hard when it doesn't come easy
It's so hard when it doesn't come fast
It's so hard when it doesn't come easy
So hard
I can live for the moment
When all these clouds open up for me to see
And show me a vision
Of you and me swimming peacefully

Now that one is bizarrely ironic and appropriate.

4) Do people secretly lust after me?
Barbara Ann- The Beach Boys
Tried peggy sue
Tried betty lou
Tried mary lou
But I knew she wouldnt do
Barbara ann, barbara ann

Heh. That's funny.

5) How can I make myself happy?
Pink Moon- Nick Drake
I saw it written and I saw it say
Pink moon is on its way

Tee hee. That makes me happy for sme reason.

6) What should I do with my life?
Over The Mountains- Eisley
With light bulbs in our pockets
we light the darkened forest.
On the mossy turf we'll dance till
our feet shatter, our toes will splinter.
Tripping through the misty streams of light,
so beautiful, I stare in awe.

I like it. I could live my life that way.

7) Will I ever have children?
F-Stop Blues- Jack Johnson
Look who's laughing now that you've wasted,
How many years and you've barely even tasted,
Anything remotely close to,
Everything you've boasted about,
Look who's crying now.

I guess I'm taking that as a no.

8) What is some good advice for me?
By and By- Jennifer Knapp
See those shoulders bend all weighted by the thought
One more day to carry on, now, carry on
Trouble she cannot shake
Dreams she would like to take her away, away
Let the words of my mouth adore You
Next time out, o I'm gonna let it fly
Although my dreams may be tattered
My will, my heart battered
I know You will hear my cry

I'm beginning to buy that iTunes is psychic afterall.

9) How will I be remembered?
2+2=5- Radiohead
Are you such a dreamer?
To put the world to rights?
I'll stay home forever
Where two & two always
makes up five

Heh. That's a bit sad.

10) What is my signature song?
Circle Of Life- Elton John
Some say eat or be eaten
Some say live and let live
But all are agreed as they join the stampede
You should never take more than you give

Haha!

11) What do I think my current theme song is?
Till Kingdom Come- Coldplay
Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you I’ve waited all these years
For you I’d wait till kingdom come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me

Oh my.

12) What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
Jackass- Beck
I been drifting along in the same stale shoes
Loose ends tying the noose in the back of my mind
If you throught that you were making your way
To where the puzzles and pagans lay
I'll put it together: It's a strange invitation

Heh!

13) What song will play at my funeral?
Free Fallin' -Tom Petty (Cover by Ben Gibbard)
I wanna glide down over mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
Gonna free fall out into nothin
Gonna leave this world for a while

This one made me giggle.

14) What type of men/women do I like?
Hold Nothing Back- Copeland
Do what you want but I know who you are
Say what you want but I know what you're thinking
If you fall in love
Fall in love and hold nothing back
I'll fall in love
Fall in love and hold nothing back from you, oh

This is getting surreal...

15) What is my day going to be like?
Perfect Girl- Sarah McLochlan
You need everybody with you on your side
Know that I am here for you but I hope in time
You'll find yourself alright alone
You'll find yourself with open arms
You'll find yourself you'll find yourself in time

Overall I'm a little weirded out by how well that fit.

I could see this... a good panning around an apartment kind of song.

Waking Up:
On My Way- Ben Kweller

This could get interesting. Apparently I'm a murderer.

First Day At School:
Five O'clock World- The Vogues

If you changed this to work, it fits pretty darn well, actually.

Puppy Love:
Within You Without You- The Beatles

Again, this weirdly fits.

Fight Song:
Gone- Jack Johnson

"Look at you out to make a deal
You try to be appealing but you lose your appeal
And what about those shoes you’re in today
They’ll do no good
On the bridges you burnt along the way"

This is gonna be an awfully mellow yet hostile fight...

Breaking Up:
Beast and Dragon, Adored- Spoon

These keep fitting really strangely well.

Prom:
Ti Ki- Sugar Ros

Not the best to dance to, but I suppose you never know.

Life is Good:
Cecilia- Simon and Garfunkle

Peppy beat at least.

Driving:
I Should Tell You- Rent

Interesting...

Flashback:
I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You- Colin Hay

Oh, beat THAT!

True Love:
Can You Feel The Love Tonight- Lion King

HA!

Wedding:Lullaby- Dixie Chicks

Oh I like this.

Moment of Triumph:
You Don't Send Me- Belle and Sebastian

Ha! I love it.

Death Scene:
If I could- Jack Johnson

Wow, I swear I didn't rig this.

Funeral Song:
I Will Always Love You - Witney Houston

Ha! So apparently it was a tragic suicide.

End Credits:
Promise What You Will- Iron and Wine

All told, I'm a big fan of my movie.

This was fun. I'm doing it again.

Opening Credits:
Street of Dreams - Oysterband

Walk right by me in the gutter / Lying here outside your door / I look up and see your beauty / Burning up and wanting more

Luck is far away as moonshine / Every deal a shaky hand / Fame is just an empty bottle / Fortune's just a one-night stand

Every day the world goes faster / Turning faster than it seems / Let's not talk about tomorrow / Leave me here on the street of dreams / Leave me here on the street of dreams

I like that as an opening.

Waking Up:
Just Like a Pill - Pink

I haven't moved from the spot where you left me / This must be a bad trip / All of the other pills / they were different / Maybe I should get some help

I can't stay on your life support / there's a shortage in the switch / I can't stay on your morphine / 'cause it's making me itch / I said I tried to call the nurse again / but she's being a little bitch / I think I'll get outta here, where I can

Run just as fast as I can / To the middle of nowhere / To the middle of my frustrated fears and I swear / you're just like a pill / Instead of makin' me better / you keep making me ill / You keep makin' me ill

I'm not sure how I feel about that. It feels bizarre. Ironically, though, I often listen to Pink when walking to the train station in the morning.

First Day At School:
Today - Smashing Pumpkins

Apparently my first day at school went astonishingly well.

Puppy Love:
Runaway - Nightwish

...

Fight Song:
The Sunhawks - Heather Alexander

This is hardly better than the last one, unless I'm in a Mercedes Lackey book.

Breaking Up:
Who Needs Sleep? - BNL

So breaking up will cause insomnia? Sounds right

Prom:
This Year, Next Year - Oysterband

That fits pretty well. I wish that they played that kind of music at the prom I went to.

Life is Good:
Egos Like Hairdos - Ani DiFranco

I like that one.

Driving:
I'll Remember You - Sophie Zelmani

Flashback:
World On Fire - Sarah McLachlan

We part the veil on our killer sun / Stray from the straight line on this short run / The more we take the less we become / The fortune of one man means less for some

Okay, this one takes the cake. Of the almost-3000 songs I have on my computer, I have one that is a song that is tangibly, actually, definitely applicable to a flashback, and requires no imagination. And that's this one. It's the only 9/11 tribute song that I have on my computer, and the only tribute song about an event that happened TO ME.

True Love:
Hush - Once More With Feeling Soundtrack

... ?

Wedding:
Love's Discovery - Indigo Girls

Moment of Triumph:
Lothlorien - Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack

Death Scene:
Champagne From a Paper Cup - Death Cab for Cutie

Funeral Song:
Space Dog - Tori Amos

YES. This proves that whoever was in charge of the damn funeral knew me well. This is one of my favorite songs, ever.

End Credits:
Polyster Bride - Liz Phair

?

... this thread makes me wish I had an ipod. Or a stach of music that wasn't on CDs. I'm so 90's.

if you've got music on your computer at all, things like Winamp or other media players usually have a shuffle option.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant
