Sandwiches have been a staple of mankind's diet for like, a million years. Since cavemen first put dinosaur meat between two leaves, man has strived to constantly improve the idea; making them more portable, more filling and more tastier. And when Ezekiel Mustard first spilled a jar of his family's trademark salad dressing on a pastrami-on-rye, things really took off.

Since then we've discovered, not unlike Columbus , a whole new world of flavors and styles (except without the genocide and population displacement). Let's discuss this ancient and mysterious science.

While BLT and peanut butter are my favoured sandwiches from the American cuisine, my absolute favourite is a spanish one: cured ham with cured cheese. Other great spanish sandwiches are cured cheese with quince jelly and any combination of chorizo, salchichon (these 2 are cured sausages with different seasonings) and mortadella.

In my childhood, chocolate sandwiches were pretty common, too (not nutella, which was another children's favourite, but actual pieces of chocolate bars).

And I've had chorizo and salchichon, both are really good. I don't know what it's called, but there's this awesome Italian sausage that's got a killer spice that's great on sandwiches too. Spanish cheeses are pretty good too, like tetilla.

I have to go cheesesteak here. American cheese with fried onions. Can't beat it. Although a close second would have to go to the breakfast sandwich. Bacon, egg and cheese bagels are quite delish.

Reubens are my all-time favorite, but close behind them are meatball sandwiches or philly cheese steaks. There's just something perfect about that corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss, and 1000-island dressing that makes all of the ingredients melt together. And it has to be on marble rye; nothing else comes close.

So the cheese is melting into the beef (or pastrami, really, but corned beef is the best) and over the sauerkraut.

Oh, God, I want one right now. I haven't had a proper one in so long.

Oh, that's a coincidence, the tetilla cheese is traditional from the Galicia, the part of Spain i live. Stands for "little tit", because of the shape. Yeah, that's kinda our sense of humour lol.

In any case, now i am missing a good po'boy XD My friend from New Orleans introduced me to those... What did those sandwiches have?

yeah blame it on the pork trade restrictions that were imposed due to a bad bout of pig illness we had in the 80s.

That's not that uncommon around here, but still it's a sandwich I've never tried (and I have no clue why, it sounds awesome).

It's really hard for me to pick. With soups I love either grilled cheese or just a sliced turkey sandwich. After Thanksgiving it's a chunky turkey sandwich with lots of pickles. I love almost any sandwich with meatballs or marinara. Philly cheese steaks are amazing and I love almost all the old childhood favorites. Tuna is also up there as one of my favorites.

Basically, I love sandwiches.

I absolutely MUST try the tuna and apple thing. That sounds amazing to me. Probably because I usually eat tuna fish sandwiches with apples on the side. Why I never thought of putting the apple in the sandwich, I am unsure.

This thread makes me want to go reread Arthur Dent as the Sandwich Maker in Mostly Harmless.

I grew up on cucumber and peanut butter sandwiches, which most people find odd, but are actually delicious!

But while I love the above, and also peanut butter and jam, I'm ALL ABOUT the egg salad/egg mayonnaise sandwich. I got to be quite the connoisseur in England, where your other veggie option involves Branstons pickle. I have also enjoyed hummus and carrot sandwiches on occasion.

Fun fact of the day: Sandwiches are named for the Earl of Sandwich.

Funner fact of the day: The English have earls instead of counts (same rank) because "count" is a little too close-sounding to another, ruder, English word.

I've had incredible tortas in Mex, they have everything! And we can't even start to make em here couse you just can't find the right bread here.

I'm not really a fan of cold meat sandwiches. If I have meat on a sandwich is going to be grilled ham and cheese, or a barbecue chicken/pork/beef. Tuna is okay, but not my favorite.

I rotate between peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and honey (especially delicious with creamed honey), and really cheesy grilled cheese. It depends on my mood, but I pretty much eat one of them all the time. I've gone through half a loaf of bread since Friday...

In LA, the best sandwich shop in the world, bay Cities Italian Deli makes a sandwich called the Godmother that is truly fantasmically great.

I'm also fond of the occasional chopped liver sandwich, if its a jewish deli

and pastrami sandwiches from jewish delis are just insane.

I really like just plain (unbuttered) toast, not that that's a sammich. I don't really consider buttered toast one either, though.

Also, something I like and tend to have every few days: an 'omelette' (except I flip it; someone I know called it an "egg pancake") with mushrooms and onions, put on a toasted bagel (usually either an onion bagel or whole wheat) with some mozzarella in there. Bagel-sammich.

You take a brick of ramen, the kind that comes with a flavor packet, and cook the ramen as usual, but leaving the flavor packet out. Meanwhile you mix three eggs with the flavoring and preheat a pan with some oil on the stove. You mix the cooked noodles and the eggs, then pour them onto the hot skillet, flip it when it's flippable, and eat when it's crispy.

It is the heartiest, tastiest, poor-college-kid, new recipe I've had in a long time.

Now if only there was a way to make it a sandwich...

Why couldn't it be a sandwich? I mean, I would probably use toast instead of just bread, but sounds like it could be made into one.

Also, I absolutely love spaghetti sandwiches on garlic toast. Mmm.

I doubt he really invented it. There's an image that's been circulated around the imageboards for quite some time, that describes how to make that.
