Words that are awesome

Postby zeroguy » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:06 pm

That other thread made me think about words I really like, too. So here are some.

defenestrate
smock
pants (verb AND noun, thank you very much)
cycling (and bicycling, etc)
troubadour

Defenestrate is an awesome word.
I'm also a fan of concupiscence, deign, and perplexed.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Mine are words that I love to say...loudly, which always leads my husband to say "oh no", because he knows the whole list is coming.

fünf
frigate
focaccia
tabernacling

And a name I made up from a name in the bible and a last name I saw somewhere. I just randomly yell the name...it's fun: Barzillai Fjölnir.

Stoichiometry.

The actual study/calculationg/whatever I really hate; I'm with cezen on that. But the word itself sounds so fun.

Thanks, everybody! We're very excited. Our families are also very excited -- calling and telling everyone has been great.

My favorite response was from my intended's mother, after I asked if she would be willing to be my mother-in-law. She had this sharp intake of breath and then, "Yes! Yes! Oh, I have been praying and praying and praying for this!"

Anyhow, I'll start using Bob again for more details as they happen :)

box

As in "what's in the box?" or "gimme the box!" or "open the box!" but not as in "dick in a box".

Relatedly, if you also like the word box, you may like a few scenes in City of Ember. And that may be all you like in it.
