Foreign Films

I'm very into foreign cinema, but a recent disease (read: college) has prevented me from seeing as many movies as I'd like.

Past favorites have been 2046, The Princess and the Warrior, Run Lola Run, Amelie, Old Boy, etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations/has anyone seen anything new?

City of the Lost Children is a must-see, especially if you're in a place where someone's already made you watch Lola Rennt. Cinema Paradiso is another great one, also All The Little Animals, but I don't know if you consider British cinema to be foreign.

Constant Gardener was a pretty good film. Sad, but well shot. Something of an activist style film.

It's not really as Pelagian as it sounds, truth be told. I pictured a bunch of abandoned children too, but there's more too it than lost children.

It's kind of a cult classic, but there's really universal appeal, and I have to think it's elitist thinking and general laziness on the part of Americans (ie, won't "read" a subtitled film) that keeps it from "getting big" over here.

City of God is even better, and a must for any fan of Enders Game, imo.

Knafayim Shvurot (Hebrew) -- When I saw House of Sand and Fog, I thought of this film. Except, unlike House of Sand and Fog, Knafayim Shvurot actually ended with an element of hope. Their lives are screwed up and things are awful, but they're going to work it out.

And what list is complete without Run, Lola, Run (German)?

On my to-watch list is Om Shanti Om, a Hindi film.

I LOVED this movie. It was heartbreaking and beautiful.. I'm actually really excited that someone here has seen it.
