I'm not asking, but...

Postby eriador » Tue Feb 05, 2008 2:07 pm

Reasons I Should Be a Mod:

1. I'd see myself as critical to the community, and take my role more seriously.
2. I'm almost always on the boards, ready to step in, if need be.
3. When I get an idea, I stick with it pretty well. However, I'll hear you out if you have a well-reasoned argument.
4. I'm not afraid of pissing some people off.
5. I can empathize with anybody I might be dealing with, 'cause I've prolly been in their position.
6. Knowing I COULD do something means more to me than actually doing it.
7. I don't always agree with the current mods, which would lead to a more sophisticated mod environment.
8. I know almost everybody, and almost everybody knows me.
9. I haven't (yet) entirely bought into the olbie-newbie divide.
10. I love this place, even though I've had my disagreements with it.
edit:
11. You can keep me from being a mod in ReMoPhi

[[to tell the truth, I was just idly thinking this, and thought I might as well post. do what you will with the thread. discuss this, change the topic, or even use it as a place for your own "I'm not asking, but..." ideas. Maybe it could be a list thread! I dunno. have fun.]]

1. I'd see myself as critical to the community, and take my role more seriously.
You take being a moron seriously?

2. I'm almost always on the boards, ready to step in, if need be.
So are a lot of people.

3. When I get an idea, I stick with it pretty well. However, I'll hear you out if you have a well-reasoned argument.
Again, you're not the only one.

4. I'm not afraid of pissing some people off.
No s***.

5. I can empathize with anybody I might be dealing with, 'cause I've prolly been in their position.
Understatement of the year. You're pretty much alone in the intentionally-getting-yourself-banned department.

6. Knowing I COULD do something means more to me than actually doing it.
Well you evidently know you COULD be a mod so what's this thread for?

7. I don't always agree with the current mods, which would lead to a more sophisticated mod environment.
Or open war.

8. I know almost everybody, and almost everybody knows me.
Unfortunately.

9. I haven't (yet) entirely bought into the olbie-newbie divide.
And that's why you're still a newbie.

10. I love this place, even though I've had my disagreements with it.
You and everybody else.

Eri, if we needed any more mods, there's a lot people around here much more qualified for the position than you (or me, for that matter).
The enemy's fly is down.

chill man
we'll see
and please don't make me think you're being a dick
because you're getting close
no worries yet
but i don't want to get confrontational with you
okay?

*whistles* Wait... that almost seems FAMILIAR... hmm.

Quite honestly, though, I don't totally trust someone who claims it gentlemanly to "stir the pot" by sharing conversations with others and then openly admitting their intention to do so. A moderator should have a more unbiased discretion without confusing it with their manipulative tendencies.

I think it's funny that I would never ask to be made a mod and yet I believe I am a thousand times more qualified than you. I think our current mods do a more than adequate job and really don't see the need for additions.

I'm not asking but...

Reasons I Should have more Ice Cream:

1. I would be better able to take by role seriously. Or humorously, whichever.
2. I'm almost always near the freezer, ready to open it, if need be.
3. When I eat Ice Cream, I eat a lot.
4. I am not afraid to eat it all.
5. Eating ice cream will help me empathize with anybody I might be dealing with, 'cause they've prolly eaten ice cream before.
6. Knowing I COULD eat ice cream means less to me than actually doing it.
7. I don't mind too much on which flavor, which could lead to a more sophisticated environment.
8. I'm popular, and popular people deserve more ice cream anyway.
9. I haven't (yet) entirely bought into the Neapolitan/Napoleon conspiracy.
10. My stomach loves the stuff, even though it's had disagreements with it.

Pweb Questions you should know the answer to in order to be considered an "oldbie":

1. Who is Otaku and what did he do?
2. When were the first and second crashes of pweb?
3. Are we better then Hatrack?
4. Who once had an avatar that said "Best Avatar Ever" and won best avatar for it?
5. Who was LetoII and why shouldn't you debate with him?
6. What came first: Papa Moose the character, or Papa Moose the poster?
7. Name at least two "Philly Boys".
8. What nickname did Jayelle give Dr. Mobius?
9. What are the names of Steph's two children?
10. Can Ollie fit in Nomi's trunk?

:D

Reasons I am content with the above discussion:

1. There was less vitriol than the last time I was around
2. It highlighted the place I have taken in this community
3. People were relatively light-hearted.
4. I managed to generate a goodly number of posts.
5. I know I'm still a newbie, and have yet to be assimilated by "the borg" ;)

I guess I can consider myself an oldbie. Though, to be fair, everything I know about Otaku's final farewell (as it were) is second-hand, as that whole fiasco was during one of my many hiatus. You have to admit, though, that Otaku was pretty funny. Sometimes I miss the old boards.

I'm not asking, but I think I could be queen of everything, everywhere, and 42. Why?

1. I'd see myself as critical to humanity, and would be less likely to become suicidal. I'm not suicidal now, but it never hurts to have a contingency plan.
2. I'm almost always within the known universe, and I can usually be awoken from a sound sleep, ready to step in if necessary.
3. When I get an idea, I usually don't waver. I will sometimes entertain arguments, but I will usually decide that they are irrelevant. Hey, if I don't agree, it's obviously not important.
4. I'm not afraid of pissing anyone off, because they're obviously just better that they haven't seen the light.
5. I can empathize enough to say "You're an idiot" in nicer terms. Like, "Your belief in God is leading you to think irrational things."
6. Knowing that I COULD do the job would totally take away from my desire to do it, so you wouldn't have to worry about me being power-hungry.
7. I don't always agree with everyone in power, and my voice needs to be represented. That s*** about never being totally happy? Doesn't apply to me.
8. I have a deep connection with most people, and they have a deep connection with me, even if we've never met.
9. I haven't entirely bought into the whole experience or familiarity thing. If I fail to win my bid for empress, why, I'll just go to Italy, and become the queen of Italy. Carpetbagger-extraordinaire!
10. I love this world, even though I sometimes disagree with the natural laws of physics. Hey, why can't I rewrite them?

Pweb Questions you should know the answer to in order to be considered an "oldbie":
I don't remember enough of these. I'm fairly sure I was around for all of them, though, except maybe 6.

Oh, and I have a suggestion:

11. What phrase does KEB stand for, and who was the first person to utter it?

Edit: Kudos to all the zingers. Nicely done.
1. I'd see myself as critical to the community, and take my role more seriously.
You take being a moron seriously?

I'm not asking, but
Reasons I should get a PS3:

1. It's pretty
2. It's shiny
3. The graphics are better than real life
4. The new Ratchet & Clank is exclusive to the PS3. I've played every R&C game so far (excluding Size Matters, but this one's for the PSP and about to come out for the PS2, so I'll play that one as well) and I'm not planning to stop.
5. It's also a super-computer
6. There be beautiful graphics over yonder
7. I can brag to everyone that I have a PS3 (that, here, costs about a thousand dollars) and they don't
8. I can finally play games online with better graphics than MapleStory (yuck)
9. It's also a Blu-Ray player, which is awesome
10. Did I mention the beautiful graphics and the fact that it's shiny?

I'm not asking, but reasons why the world should be a Pwebocracy (ruled by pwebbers)

1. We represent many different viewpoints, believes, ethnicities, nationalities, etc. Thus we can speak for everyone... or at least everyone who matters.
2. We can put aside those differences for the greater good of humankind... can't we?
3. On the whole, I think we're a pretty bright bunch.
4. Numerous crashes have proven that we can rebuild a society from scratch if need be.
5. It's a scientific fact that no one who has read and enjoyed the original Ender quartet can be a bad person. It's just not possible.
6. Speaking of which, we would finally have the power to get that Ender's Game movie made.
7. We're better than hatrack :D .
8. We could enact laws that require proper grammar and spelling, even on the internet, and enforce harsh punishments for violations. (It's also a known fact that better grammar makes one a better person).
9. If aliens ever visit Earth we are obviously best qualified to determine whether they are ramen or varelse, and we know what needs to be done if the latter...
10. Clearly, Elena's megalomania needs to be kept in check. Having her as part of the Pwebocracy is better than just letting her be Empress.

Bonito,

I can answer them all. Except for the fact that I couldn't intially remember when the second crash happened even though I was there for it. I also expect that JL could answer her own questions and I could probably manage a short list of people that would know those answers as well.

Jayelle,

Nice. Very nice.

zero,

I'm not asking, but I should be Hegemon of the world. Reasons:

1. I offer free ice cream sandwiches for everyone!
2. I already have my own army of mythical creatures that cannot be destroyed, so don't bother opposing me.
3. I know how to properly use a sword.
4. I have no knowledge of polotics, so this will be the dawn of a new chaotic era.
5. I'm dependable, or at least fanaticlly loyal.
6. I'm intellegent
7. I event my own sleelings fow wrds!
8. I stand for complete and utter chaos, and we all know that chaos is fun.
9. I stand for NEWBIE POWER! All Newbs in n00bs will rule the world
10. I'm just plain awesome.

I think rather than just being a mod, I should become president of pweb. Here are my reasons.

1. I don't know all the answers; but I've been around long enough to.
2. I have no problem abandoning what the pwebbers want in order to fulfill my own desires.
3. I'm always right, and anyone that challenges that ends up mysteriously dead of natural causes.
4. I've never been banned, though I think I got a warning once.
5. I'm smarter than you.
6. Everybody here loves me.
7. Your mom said so.

And as president of pweb, I hereby declare that 7 reasons are enough.
Stop trying to be perfect. Focus on being you; perfect will come.

Alright, you can be president, but I'm dictator for life. :P

As far as those questions go, I guess I'd be a semi-oldbie, seeing as I can answer about half of them. Also, I'd like to suggest an addition: 12. What was the color code for "invisible text" on the second PWeb?

Name three alliances (Bonus points for naming members of the alliances)

I'm not sure I could do that one...
Wow I only remember three clearly.

Canadian Alliance:
Noodle
sandwich boy
Shatner

Red Fox Alliance:
Jebus
fallenangel
citie_pixie

Cullinary Alliance:
Little Blue Triangle
Ng
GS

I remember there were so many, but I can't remember their names. I remember something about hobos and goats. I also their being an evil alliance led by Satya of course. I also think I was a member of said alliance.

Oh MAN! I was in the Red Fox alliance, too!

I miss the Calvinball days!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant
