Anyone here make AMVs?

Postby SaintDrogo » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:02 am

So, any of you guys have any original AMVs? I know, some people consider that Anime Music Video, but I've always heard it as Amature Music Video. In any event, I'm talking about movies or shows etc edited with music overlayed, music video style. My boyfriend has a few on YouTube, and I have a couple works in progress. Just wanted to see what y'all had.

I don't make them, but I've seen some really good ones. Can we see the ones your bf made?

Most definitely. Just go to http://www.youtube.com and search for "omentheduck"

All his videos will come up. My favorite of his is the Weeds video, mostly cos he digs anime waaaaaay more than me and that's really what the other ones are mostly.

I just assumed it was something to do with LOTR. Every single minor character eventually acquires a fandom, so why not Drogo?

True. Speaking of minor fandoms, anyone up for a keeper thread before I start one? Or do people do those anymore? I remember a mailing list I used to be on for Star Wars had a keepers list. There'd have to be a concrete list, approved by a mod. People would apply to be, say for example, "Keeper of the jewel in Ender's ear" or "Keeper of Dink Meeker's flash suit." And if no one else already had it or had applied for it, they could put that in their signature.

I assumed she was a guy too. Even when she mentioned a boyfriend I tried not to assume anything.

Just call me Pat.

Actually, my name is Aimee if you need something more gender-specific to call me. Nice to meet you guys. I never realized that many people read my stuff. I had figured it was me talking to Piit and mazer.

While we're on this subject, a lot of people assume I'm of the female persuasion from my screen name. I guess Mich comes across as short for Michelle.

Anyway, it happens.

I can proudly say that no one has ever mistaken me for female, even though my screen name is gender neutral. I guess manliness just comes through in my posts. 8)

Really? I always thought you were a guy. I always think Mich pronounced as Mitch, which sounds guy-like.

I always think of Rei as a girl. Even though I know he's a guy... but you just have to live with the consequences of that name and avatar, and it's just too hard otherwise; thinking of "Rei" as a guy will screw up my mind (even more than Eva did itself). Although choosing that as a guy does remind me of a guy I know...

I don't think anyone's been stupid enough to confuse me for a girl... yet.

No jota, you're thinking of Dobie.

I can't even remember which side of the EL debate I was on. It was so long ago. But back then I remembered a lot more Latin then I currently do, so I would like to think I was on the right side.

Rei, I thought you wus a girl.

Mich, you always came across as a boy.

So, wait, what is this thread about?

Hmm. What started as a thread about music videos (and a shameless plug for Duck's amvs) has turned into a gender identity support group. lol awesome.

So I guess no one up here makes them?

I do! Actually, I just started. My sisters started it a couple years back, and I got jealous that I was the only one that didn't have one.

So far, I just have one: Doctor Who -- Eight Percent of My Love

The music is from a music video from Square One TV if anyone remembers that show. Video is from Doctor Who, mostly the new series, but some clips from the original series also.

If anyone wants to see my sister's, my favorite is This One.

Music is "Precious," video is from season 1 of Tsubasa.

I wish I had the skills (or programs... or time...) necessary to make those. Alas! But I do enjoy watching them.

Nice video :)
I don't remember Square One TV per se, but I was recently introduced to it and have been amusing myself with youtube videos of it.

Okay, in keeping with this "actually stay on topic" vibe I'm getting... "Amateur Music Video"? Can't say I've ever heard of that. Is that a term that came to fruition with the rise of youtube or something?

And clearly, any AMV of the latter definition that is of any quality would fit the former definition anyway...

Wouldn't it be the other way around? Any of the former would fit the latter? All Anime Music Videos are Amatuer Music Videos, but not vice versa.

Personally, I've thought about making one, but... alas, I don't have the time. Especially with the vlogging experience this year.

And, in defense of people thinking Rei was a girl... he did kind of pretend to be one for the longest time.

"...of any quality". Of course the other way is true; I was attempting to make them equivalent, not subsets.

Maybe it's just because it's 3:11 AM, but I'm still not quite following your line of reasoning.

I'm not quite sure where quality comes into it at all, really. You've said that a high quality amateur music video would therefore fit the description of an anime music video.

So, at this point, I'm thinking I just missed the punchline. (Ha ha, the only quality amateur music videos are anime.)

Unless you're serious. In which case, I'm blaming it on the early morning hours.

I'll hop on that sentence when it comes back around. Has anyone thought of trying to make any Ender amv? Of course not with the unreleased movie yet, durh, but cutting together other movies and such (gattaca, bits of minority report, alien, etc) to make some?

Or, if you're looking to do a little foley work or some voice-over acting, lemme know. Duck just got a video camera recently, so I'm working on a script with him right now. It involves pirates. And lots of play-doh. But more importantly, LOTS of foley work.

Dude, I think Duck's showed me that one before. Very cool. I'm currently comissioning one from him for Kill Bill volumes 1 & 2 for "In the White Room" by Cream. I think it'll be bitchin'. Anyone check out his others?

Edited to add shameless plug:

I just uploaded my first three videos for The Golden Compass to the songs "Go Ask Alice" by Jefferson Airplane, "New Resolution" by Azure Ray, and "When I Fall" by Sam Phillips. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/user/saintdrogo

I finished another video here.

It's not all that great, but only because it is music to manga images, so it might make ADD people bored. But actually, I'm quite pleased with it. I did a few effects & things to keep it interesting. But the best part is that I animated 3 manga pages. It took me FOREVER!! Mostly just because I used Photoshop & mspaint. :?

So, while we are on that subject, does anyone have any recommendations for animating software to make this sort of thing easier in the future? And, what movie editor that is better than Windows Movie Maker should I use?

Oh, the manga is xxxHolic by CLAMP, and the music is A Neverending Dream by X-Perience.

(This one actually was originally just for practice, because I plan on doing the same thing with the anime after they animate stuff in the dream story arc, hopefully during the new season which begins next week.)

I did a pseudo music video to The Doobie Brothers' "Black Water" back in film school. it was pretty whacked out, I used Steve's battle school animation in it (he said I could) as well as cribbing footage from Bambi and some street footage I shot.
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
