Title: Trapped in the Trunk!

Postby Oliver Dale » Mon Oct 22, 2007 5:37 am

My imagination has never been one of my strong points. Lately I've been into plant and tree identification and that kind of thing, so my brain went in that direction, thinking it was some local name for a tree or something. Sorry I didn't get it. :?
I'm so with you. I was all, "Oh wow, an Opal tree, never heard of that before...."

I see it NOW though. Really, I do.

Didn't you know, Ollie? This year I've been awarded Nobel Prizes in both botany and geology.

I took a few more pictures this morning on my way home from work. Different tree, though. My camera is not fancy, and because of the glare of the sunrise I couldn't see a dang thing to check the focus or even what was on the screen. All things considered, I still really like these two:

I went to Rievaulx Abbey today. These are a couple of my top favourites among the 200+ pics I took.

You should have come visit. ;)

In all seriousness, though, Rievaulx was stunning. More than once I wanted to cry for all the things that were lost in the Reformation. Can you imagine all the priceless books that were burnt?

This is not a photo I took, it is a photo that someone I know took. I hope they don't mind me posting it. It is a great photo. It makes me laugh every time I look at it. Also, tail hole.

Well, in this case it wasn't you. ;) Henry VIII made his own stupid choices.

Luther, however, burnt one of the books I'm researching (the Summa Angelica), calling it "The More Than Diabolic Summa." Fortunately, other copies have survived!

Yeah, but my father's ancestors are Episcopal (and, I'm sure, originally Church of England), and so I feel some ancestral guilt on that side, too :)

(The Luther fact made me smile, though. I love me some Martin Luther, I must say. That sounds just like him.)

Episcopal = Church of England, just renamed because Americans Are Not English. Just one of the many silly leftovers of the Revolution.

Okay, I really, really love this picture. Just something about the way it balances.

3 of my favorites from my trip to Africa last summer.

I just really like this image for some reason.

So... there are... frequent plane crashes in that field?

No, then the sign would be something like "Warning: constant plane crashes!" This is obviously just trying to get you to be more observant.

You have to pretty unobservant to not notice a plane flying over your head, at least if they are landing or taking off. So stinkin loud. *remembers Wayne's World*

I think it's reminding you to yield to incoming airplanes. That have the right of way, you know.

We went to the ocean last month for the super-low tide. I present to you The Discontented Crab:

Heeee... That crab was amusing. More amusing than the one I accidentally stepped on in the seaweed. Wretched, wretched stuff to walk through, seaweed. You never know when the ground where you just stepped will start trying to scurry away.

That's pretty f****** awesome.

Could I make one small tiny request? Could you change the font from Comic Sans? Do it for the Discontented Crab? Or if not for him, for the Discontented Graphic Designer Sister-in-Law?

Hahah, that's awesome! I imagine that the Discontented Crab, though still discontented, is more contented with the font :P

Yeah, there are lots of people who don't like comics sans. So mr Discontented Crab is not alone in that ^_^

I actually quite like it, because back in the days, i used to scanlate manga into spanish. And when filling up the dialogue bubbles, it feels more natural.
