Banned Names

Postby Amka » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:29 pm

I've banned a few names that were held by previous owners. They are mostly the ones that would get grabbed up by fans unknowingly.

HegemonA thought of this, so hats off to him. If anyone can think of any names that might need this, now is the time to say so.

What, people who just don't post anymore, or people who haven't gotten around to joining yet?

People who have long histories with us and are likely to be coming back.

Although now that brain mentions it, banning otaku might be a good safety precaution. Even though the original is long gone, I could see people wanting the name to continue what he started...

Edit: I think that Rahl22 should also be banned. I know he doesn't use it anymore, but I would prefer there not to be any pretenders either...

How likely is it that someone is going to come up with Rahl22 off the top of their head???

And all the Valentines.

Ollie's name is not a name that is likely to be gotten randomly, but a lot of people from Ye Olde *and what used to be Ye Olde I now refer to as Ye Older* would like to steal it just for jokes.

bah, as if mods have never caused trouble. sheesh. if anything mods can manage to cause much more trouble than the rest of us. i think it's kool that john is a mod now. it's like the fan in the crowd that never misses a game get's picked to be on the team.

I agree that the mods have waaaaaaaay more potential to cause trouble. Like... infitely more.

Which is also why I am going to be on a lot better behavior than I have been in the past. I think that is true of anyone who gets bumped up. As individuals, we see things the way that we always did, but the way that we act and how we moderate must more strictly follow the rules of the forum. So, while I will always have my old sense of humor, what I say or do will now be curtailed by my position. I guess it is just a matter of using the power responsibly...

You've been talking to uncle ben, it seems.

Well, i've got news for you parker, there's only a partial need to restrain yourself. you can let your sense of humor, and even some trouble makin' show without being a bad mod. sometimes you have to shake things up a bit to keep things interesting!

you probably just have to restrain yourself from starting threads about sex and swearing.

I'm afraid it does.

I'm drawing a line between our good and funny friend HA, and the site administrator Hegemon.

HA has died, and he's been replaced by a less worthy specimen.

Actually, it has been years since I shouted it out in a chat and I think I prolly never said it on PWEB itself, and if I did, i did it once or twice at most...

And Jebus, you know you still love me... Admit it .... or get banned

I'm not sure if I should feel more rejected because my status wasn't enough to preserve my name, or because my status wasn't enough for anyone to nick it.

the preservation was done for people who have names that are just likely to be taken. Nothing to do with status.

For instance, I doubt that anyone would ever think to take Fris' name, or Peters_Girl, but they are likely to take names like Petra or Alai because this is an EG site. It would not even necessarily be on purpose, could just be a newb who innocently swipes it.

I knew that. Someone's obviously forgetting the important help the Yebra gave Alai in Shadow of the Giant.

This forum lacks a clear 'ignore me I'm being an ass' smilie.

Smileys that PWeb could benefit from (all of them are taken from mysmilies.com):

The Jayelle smiley Image

For those particularly bewildering posts Image

To save people having to type it in the hugs thread Image

And this one may not be appropriate, but it would be so very useful Image I think I'm gonna use this one regularly even if it doesn't get included.

Couldn't find and "ignore me I'm being an ass" one, though, it would be extremely useful.

Getting back the old smiley of the fallen over red guy from FF and the hearnoevilseenoevilspeaknoevil one would be good too.

that Jayelle smiley might be the best thing i've seen all day.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

People who have yet to return, and whose names might get stolen, such as Alai

Any pure Ender name (Ender, Ender Wigging, etc), because no one really can live up to it.

Names that can be used for sacrilege, such as Jesus Christ

umm... that's basically it.

But John, what about the Second Coming? What if He WANTS to participate here?
