So...basically here's what's gone down so far.
About two weeks ago my parents said I needed to ask the girl by May 1st. I had no problems with that.
About one week ago my dad asked me who I was thinking of asking. I told him. Now, my dad knows maybe 10% of the whole high school student body. He didn't know who she was (big surprise).
Today he decides it's his business to look all through my room for my yearbook from last year. He sees the girl and just comes up to me and basically says she's ugly. Then he goes on to rant about how I could ask any of these other girls. He proceeds to point to all the drunks/stoners/sluts and says I should go with any of them.
So now I'm starting to get second thoughts about asking the girl I originally planned to ask. The problem is I know that I'll have a good time with her if I go with her. We had a really good time at Semi earlier this year. So...
What should I do? Thanks.
Prom?

...are you serious?
you are thinking about not asking the girl that you want to ask and know you'll have a good time with because your father thinks she's ugly?
...am i the only one appalled by this?

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Take the girl. There are lots of stupid ways people make decisions, and this would be one of them.
Obviously you thought she was attractive enough (and not just physically). Why should someone else's opinion of a YEARBOOK photo matter? Those things are universally hideous anyway.
Geez.

This kinda reminds me that my dad once told me (while I was trying to decide on what college to go to) how girls at campus A were much more attractive than those at campus B. I found it rather annoying. (And I ended up going to college C anyway.)
Not to say he wasn't correct, but that's not the point.
Edit: And on the third hand, consider not ever listening to what John says.
