Heroes (the show)

Postby Jayelle » Mon Oct 16, 2006 8:36 pm

Preamble:I know, I know, I keep posting about TV shows. I'm pitiful and obsessed with Television.

Actual Post:

Anyone else watch the new show on NBC called Heroes? It's seriously awesome. Cliffhanger endings on every episode...

It's about a bunch of different people with superpowers, but it isn't based on any comic or other medium - which is awesome. It doesn't have to worry about letting down legions of fans (I'm looking at you Smallville and Birds of Prey).

I'm totally addicted. I hope it actually stays on the air.

i just saw it for the first time tonight. i'm pretty confused.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

My brother & wife, mother & stepfather, husband and I are all watching it (I know that list was not punctually/grammatically correct). And yes, it rocks! I really, really love it.

The premiere was quite possibly the worst let down I've had as far as TV goes. It was slow, I was hardly attached to any of the characters, and the only goal they had in mind was "uh oh, theres a nuke coming, over the course of a season, we'll band together and stop it!" The ending was predictable, and I didn't care to see what happened next. I almost gave up.

Second episode was the best recovery imaginable. It introduced the guy known as Sylar and made him intriguing and purposeful. It made the characters likable (not just Hiro). It, for the most part, made me care what happened next. Third was even better.

The best so far was last nights episode. It was... incredibly crafted. Each of the characters are starting to stand out with flair, and I want to see what happens next to each character. It puts out questions, but gives action. Oh and when Future Hiro shows up? Sweet jesus of nazereth, that was awesome.

I'm hooked, but I give you fair warning- the first episode is gonna suck.

The show's been good since the first episode, they took their time for the first episode by developing all the characters and it shows. But their actouts weren't that great. same problem in the second episode and they were having trouble weaving the story cohesively together. Third episode was a little better, probably the best to that time, they were finding their stride and style. Fourth episode was almost like a revelation. they dumped the narrator and dumped repeating the end of last week's threads at the start of this week's. HUGE improvement; made all the difference in the world. But I don't think the fourth was as strong or interesting in story or character, that's a shame because their technical storytelling skills improved so much by this episode. I'm hoping for big things in the remaining season.

Spoilers!!!:

So Sylar / father of indestructi-girl is the 'first', perhaps he can sense other talents? That's why he had so many more, that's why he adopted indestruci girl

My real question though is if it was him that attacked the little girl at the police station in episode three or if it was mysterious black guy? And does Sylar or mysterious black guy 'eat' the brains of the talents they find to absorb their powers?

Is brother of guy running for office basically a 'leech'? That's why he can talk to Hiro when time is stopped, why he can fly when his brother does (but sucked too much power and they fell) and can see the future around futureartist dude.

Was indestructi-girl on an autopsy table (wasn't her chest all cut up like they'd been examining her insides) at a proper morgue or was it her father doing it? I thought it was her father at the end of episode three, but now I'm not sure.

Is mind reading cop dead? or will Hiro rescue him? Isn't it great to see Hiro all badass samurai at the end of episode four? I presume leech-brother will be essential to stopping Sylar at the end of the season as well as organizing the talents.

and what's with the wavy symbol that was painted everywhere in the future Hiro saw in future artists apartment in episode 1? the Same symbol was also in the professors memory stick. I can't remember if it was in Sylar's apartment, but it was also tattooed on split personality porn mommy's shoulder.

"So Sylar / father of indestructi-girl is the 'first', perhaps he can sense other talents? That's why he had so many more, that's why he adopted indestruci girl"

Sylar is not the cheerleaders father. Sylar, however, is eating brains to gain other peoples powers until he is nigh indestructable.

"My real question though is if it was him that attacked the little girl at the police station in episode three or if it was mysterious black guy? And does Sylar or mysterious black guy 'eat' the brains of the talents they find to absorb their powers?"

It was neither, it was Sylar. They eat brains to absorb powers.

"Is brother of guy running for office basically a 'leech'? That's why he can talk to Hiro when time is stopped, why he can fly when his brother does (but sucked too much power and they fell) and can see the future around futureartist dude."

Yes, he is a leech.

"Was indestructi-girl on an autopsy table (wasn't her chest all cut up like they'd been examining her insides) at a proper morgue or was it her father doing it? I thought it was her father at the end of episode three, but now I'm not sure."

Proper morgue.

"Is mind reading cop dead? or will Hiro rescue him? Isn't it great to see Hiro all badass samurai at the end of episode four? I presume leech-brother will be essential to stopping Sylar at the end of the season as well as organizing the talents."

No, he is not dead. He has been introduced to be a main character. Way too early to be killing off people. Hiro will rescue Claire, who will rescue the cop with 2 other hero's yet to be determined. Yes, Peter (leech) will be essential.

"and what's with the wavy symbol that was painted everywhere in the future Hiro saw in future artists apartment in episode 1? the Same symbol was also in the professors memory stick. I can't remember if it was in Sylar's apartment, but it was also tattooed on split personality porn mommy's shoulder. ""

For those who haven't seen all the episodes, there's apparently a marathon on NBC on Sunday showing all 4 of the episodes so far.

in answer to locke's ~~~SPOILERS~~~

I don't think that the glasses dude (father of the cheerleader) is Sylar. That doesn't add up, plus it's a tad too obvious.

I think Peter is like Rogue from Xmen, he can absorb peoples powers (but unlike her, not hurt them while doing so).

I considered the possibility of the cheerleader's father being Sylar but I don't think it's true.

Also, I think the wavy symbol has shown up in more places than Locke mentioned. The one I can think of for sure is on one of the cheerleader's textbooks as she was putting it in her locker.

And actually, the Hero's marathon on Sunday (starting at 8pm EST) will be showing episodes 2, 3 and 4 but not the first one.

The show is interesting enough, and I enjoy it...however, does anyone else feel as though the cheerleader cannot act?

And, I'm sorry, but if I ever EVER said, "We used to be BFFs," especially in high school, I think I'd have to severely hurt myself.

Claire. Something about her just strikes me as a poor Disney channel type actress...

(Also, for anyone else that spend forever trying to place her - I finally figured it out. She's the cute blonde girl from Remember the Titans)

I think her character is kind of cool despite the lack of ability to act. My favorite character, though is Mr. Bennett and Hiro. Hiro is the best. I like him both as the comic relief and that bad ass guy we see warning Peter Petrelli on that one episode. DL is cool, too, but we haven't seen much of him. (Oh, by the way...I got to bitch some people out for spelling Micah's name wrong. Especially since that is my name.)

(You can probably tell I'm a fan by my avatar.)

*bump*

Does anyone watch the new Doctor Who? I only ask because I think the invisible man-hero was Doctor #9 (the shaved-head Doctor that met Rose and saved her from the plastic people). Am I right?

Yes. It's Christopher Eccleston. He even wore an ugly scarf on Heroes as a shout out.

Ah-ha! I thought so! I like the new Doctor better, anyway. But it was fun to see him pop up suddenly in New York.

Was it Hiro? He had the low deep voice...I thought it might be the comic book fan guy, that was reading all about Hiro...

It was Hiro. We saw him earlier in the season when he came tell Peter to save Claire. On the subway? Remember?

lol, but he looked just like Hiro. So unless Sylar has gotten to Candice...but I'm pretty sure that was Hiro. It looked like that was his little hideout, with the timeline and what not. Can't wait for next week!

Man...when Mohinder brought Peter in, I kept yelling at the TV for them to just pull the glass out of his head.

Edit: There's no doubt in my mind that what we saw on the subway talking to Peter and the man Hiro was talking to were Future Hiro. What reason does Future Hiro have to lie about who he is? Besides, if there are duplicate powers, what are the odds that ANOTHER Japanese man has the time ability and has acknowledged their powers? 3/4ths the people on Mohinder's list are in doubt over their powers and even some of the cast of Heroes. It's without a doubt Future Hiro.

Should be a good episode tomorrow. We get to see them all in the future. Future Hiro looks like Neo. How come none of the heroes are good at fighting
