Johnny Hart died last week. I just heard today.

The world is now a little less funny. Rest in peace, Mr. Hart.

I don't want to throw a wet-blanket on the mourning here (well... actually, I do otherwise I wouldn't be posting), but frankly, while Wizard of Id had some genuinely "comic" moments (which IS the point, isn't it?) B.C. was the worst piece of comic-trash besides Cathy and Between Friends.

I submit the example Stewie of Family Guy made:

Character A: Why is Juan so happy?
Character B: Because he knows himself.
Character A: Well, I guess it takes Juan to know Juan.

HA-F***ING-HA. B.C. did to comedy what American Idol does to television every f****** night it's on the air.

i don't see why he has to censor himself and his opinions just because a comic strip writer died. i didn't care for the man's work either. the man was born in the 30's he was gonna die someday. this isn't exactly a tragedy or anything. there's no "too soon" limit to uphold.

anyway, in my opinion sparrowhawk is right.

he doesn't have to be quiet (although it would be decent of him) but he could at least choose a valid example. I mean, "It takes Juan to know Juan"? How does that not make you giggle inside?

wizzard: What's "decent" in your opinion means little - if anything - to me.

Virlomi: I'm not sure what you think you mean by 'shtick.' The guy's comics - in my opinion - sucked; they were devoid of wit, filled with trite, overused, so-called "jokes" and they ran for several decades longer than was even fathomable. So there's no good reason for me not to voice that opinion in a thread about the man except for your personal sensitivities and those of similar mushy-hearted tendencies. But OMG HE JUST DIED!!!! So what. Deal with it.

Somehow, I liked the style of BC, even if the jokes weren't all that great. Classic trite puns will always have a place somewhere, and out of the many contemporary examples, I think I like Hart's the best. I'll miss his stuff, even if I haven't read print comics in quite a while.

But hey, some don't like it, and I have no problem with that.
