Suggestion: a more impartial corps of mods. I have to say (and I don't mean any offense to the moderators, they're great people) that the moderation here is not very good compared to other places I've been. Either it's too draconian or too lax, and one of the biggest problems is that the mods aren't impartial.

the mods were all approved by Ami, and since it's her site, i'm pretty sure she wouldn't have picked them if she didn't think they could perform their functions well.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Heh, as I recall.... it was rather first-ask, first-serve.the mods were all approved by Ami, and since it's her site, i'm pretty sure she wouldn't have picked them if she didn't think they could perform their functions well.
That said, no complaints here.

The mods were chosen based on merit. Certain people spoke up, and they were a) mods on pweb II, or b) people who had been long-standing potentials. Long-time oldbies who were known to be reasonable, dependable, and fair.
Pweb II died, so you can't easily see its history. That's a real shame, because your coup attempt would be even funnier if it still existed.

Okay, a slight bit of clarification of my perception of things. It was almost certainly partially merit-based, in the vain that mods had to be above a certain level of merit. I assume that if some random newbie stopped by that day and asked, that they wouldn't be running the place now. But, since nobody did, I cannot actually say that it wouldn't have happened, heh.He actually wasn't right... It sort of worked out that way, but that is not how it happened behind the scenes.

We're doing this with foreknowledge (unlike the last one) so we'll have full backup.
Basically, what will happen is during transfer we'll have to freeze the forum while it is on this server, we'll have everything saved and copy it onto the new server. When we have that so it is upgraded and running smoothly, we'll change domain servers and then it will all be functioning.
I could do this without freezing it, but every post between backup and switching on to the new server would disappear.

Any estimate on how long this freezing period will last?Basically, what will happen is during transfer we'll have to freeze the forum while it is on this server, we'll have everything saved and copy it onto the new server. Nice to see you again, by the way.

The freezing time, unfortunately, has to do with register.com and their very slow switch over on domain names. It may be up to a couple of days.
But, it will be working (the new PhpBB version is already installed, but the database is not yet there for obvious reasons) on the new server.
Another thing that is being installed into Pweb is a content manager for the rest of the site, and we will be finally able to have user input there.
