Beatles Musical - "Across the Universe"

Postby locke » Sat Feb 03, 2007 4:11 pm

Finally! The trailer for "Across the Universe"!. Think Beatles meets Moulin Rouge. One thing the trailer doesn't make very clear is that this is an all out musical. Julie Taymor, the director, did one of the most poetic, unique and gorgeous adaptations of Shakespeare ever with "Titus" a film worth checking out if you're curious what her style is like.

It's not a great trailer, but it gives you a sense of the trippiness. Doubtless some of you are very excited right now and some of you are having heart attacks in rage, but I, for one, cannot wait to see it.
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

i dunno, it looks freaking great movie wise. and the trippiness looks just about right for my taste as well.

the music on the other hand, while it sounds good... just not as good as the originals. *shrug* prolly still watch it. hopefully i'll like it.

i HATED moulin rouge though. so meh, i'll have to watch it to be sure.

Looks amazing! Even though I'm a huge Beatles fan, it doesn't bother me that they're not using the originals...

I think for this movie using the original Beatles' tunes would have been a mistake. As long as the covers don't vary too much from the originals it'll be fine.

That is awesome. Must see.

Since it's a musical, it wouldn't make any sense to not use covers. And it sounds like the covers are pretty faithful to the originals (actually, the "She's So Heavy" guitar sounds exactly the same).

YAY BEATLES AND HIPPIES!

Yeah, welcome to pweb, stick around! *gives him a slice of purgatory cake*
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet him, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

It's about time that the Beatles get a movie. I hope it's awesome and mind-bogglingly psychadelic.

You mean the one with the BeeGees? *shudders* I haven't seen it, but the BeeGees just make me shudder in general, and I've heard it was horrible.

And if you want a psychedelic Beatles movie, you may want to check out Magical Mystery Tour. Granted, it's not deep or anything, but I think it's very amusing. :)

HK i think you've already given me some purgatory cake. Thanks for round two though. And while we're dishing out food and things, have a nice tall glass of Guarana!
