The Obligatory Buffy thread
There's been a bit of Buffy talk in other threads, so I thought I'd start a thread.
If you hate it, just vote No and geddout.
The rest of us intelligent people will discuss what we love about the show.

I like some of Angel, but it just wasn't as good as Buffy. They kind of set a precedent in the first season by killing off Doyle - just when you start to like something, they end it.
[Spoilers]
Over and over again, things got destroyed never to be seen again - the first office, Kate, Lorne's bar, the hotel, Cordelia being a demon, Connor as a child, Connor as an angsty teen, etc.
Jasmine as the "explanation for everything that has been crap in the past year" was the last straw for me.

I actually like that about Angel. It feels more mature--in both, they're struggling to save the world, and putting themselves in a lot of danger, and, in both, most of the characters are regular old human beings. In Buffy, nobody really died, and those that did didn't die in an actual battle. Not the important ones.I like some of Angel, but it just wasn't as good as Buffy. They kind of set a precedent in the first season by killing off Doyle - just when you start to like something, they end it.
Except Anya. Which still makes me cry.
Where, in Angel, I feel like it's almost more realistic. There's loss. And you feel it.
I also liked the way they approached Faith in Angel more than the way they approached her in Buffy, and Faith is really one of my favorite characters.
I can understand that... but I liked that bittersweet quality. Because I've had that happen, and I've seen things just... get destroyed, and let go of, and it's nice to think that they come back, but... they don't.Over and over again, things got destroyed never to be seen again - the first office, Kate, Lorne's bar, the hotel, Cordelia being a demon, Connor as a child, Connor as an angsty teen, etc.
I also really like the Anne element, which was in the second season.
That's completely understandable.Jasmine as the "explanation for everything that has been crap in the past year" was the last straw for me.

okay, okay, I see where you're coming from. I definately like Season One with Faith and Season Two with the whole "Dark Angel" period.
The Anne thing was awesome. Gotta love how much Joss respects the fans.
Favourite Season, anyone?
I love Season Six, even though it is really dark, because it really shows how after a traumatic experience you can just lose yourself, and Willow going evil was awesome.
I also love Season Three. Faith and the Mayor were truly scary, and the show really hit it's stride. There are no bad episodes at all in that season.

The other thing I love about Angel are the flashbacks. I'm a lover of backstory, and Angel gives so much backstory.
My favorite Angel season... god. Two, maybe?
My favorite Buffy season would also have to be six. I love a lot of the episodes on it, and I liked the different view of Spike.
I also, of course, love every Faith episode--and I like S2, because Drusillia's in it, and I love Drusilla. She's also one of my favorites.

Jan, Elena, et al,
i would agree with you, but since the split i've already watch all of season 2 (angel going bad) and season three (buffy and angel breaking up), so, while oz leaving (he's one of my favorite characters) will certainly be tough to handle, i'm already sort of in the Buffy/break up stride.
thanks for your concern, though.
::
otherwise, i LOVE season three, i think Faith is phenomenal, and completely fascinating. but i also think season six is amazing, too.
i've never seen a single episode of angel, although i've wanted to, if only to catch some more of the Faith storyline.

Buuuuuuffy.
I voted for Duckies, but I love Buffy.
My favourite season is season 3, but I can see the appeal of season 6. To me, season 3 rules because there aren't any throwaway episodes (like Go Fish, Beer Bad, Doublemeat Palace). Also, the pacing of season 6 seemed a little off sometimes, and the pacing of season 7 was awful. But I wouldn't change a thing about season 3.
I like Oz.
Young Val- Angel is definitely worth watching, especially at first. I love what they do with Faith.
Connor drives me nuts, but everything up until he shows up is goood watchin'.

It's not "noob" to rhyme with "boob". It's "newbie" to rhyme with "boobie".

Hey, Kelly, remember how you live nearby, and I mentioned that I have the first three seasons?
(Did I mention that?)
Open invitation.
Faith really is fascinating. I love the way that she goes downward, and seriously screws up, but then makes the active choice to try to redeem herself, and to stop hurting people. She's such a definition of the ability people have to choose, and I love the dynamic between Faith and Angel.
Buffy is just such a responsible person, even at her least responsible, and she's so restrained, even at her least restrained. I think Faith is a good example of what could have happened to Buffy if she hadn't had the family she had, if she'd had the dark elements of her past that Faith did.
The season 2 of Buffy killing Angel broke my heart.

Favourite Episodes?
My top ten (in reverse order)
10. 309- The Wish - the first one with Anya where it's an alternate universe
9. 716 - Storyteller - Andrew! I love all the funny Andrew filming moments.
8. 608 - Tabula Rasa - the one where Willow makes them all loose thier memories. Hilarious middle, saddest ending ever.
7. 507 - Fool for Love - Spike tells his whole story, I love the flashbacks.
6.320 - The Prom - the one with the prom, when Buffy gets the umbrella it makes me cry
5. 214 - Innocence - the one where Angel turns evil (so scary, so well done)
4. 516 - The Body - Buffy's mom's death. The most acurate portrayal of death on TV I've ever seen.
3. 422- Restless - The dream episode, so fun and so many clues to future seasons.
2. 410 - Hush - the silent episode.
1. 607 - Once more with Feeling - the musical episode! I love it more then anything. It's so great.
...was that a bit too obsessive?

It's the most heart-wrenching, terrible thing... I want them to get back together now...
Jayelle, favorite episodes? God, that's hard.
Some of my faves--
I Only Have Eyes For You - S2, where Buffy and Angelus reinact the murder/suicide of old lovers while possessed by their spirits.
Anne - S3, where Buffy runs into "Chantarelle" from "Lie to Me" while in LA.
Fear, Itself - S4, the college halloween party where Anya shows up as a bunny.
Something Blue - S4, where Spike and Buffy get engaged.
Hush - S4, the silent episode.
Where the Wild Things Are - S4, the poltergeists that release their energy through Buffy and Riley's tireless sex.
New Moon Rising - S4, where Oz returns.
Intervention - S5, where Spike is kidnapped and tortured but refuses to betray Buffy and Dawn.
Once More With Feeling - S6. Just a terrific episode--I'm amazed at the voices of some of them. (I even have the soundtrack!)
Tabula Rasa - S6, where Willow makes them all lose their memories.
Normal Again - S6, where Buffy is in a mental institution.
Conversations With Dead People - S7, the first real appearence of the first.
Lies My Mother Told Me - S7, in which we get the backstory on Spike and Robin's respective mother issues
Chosen - S7, last episode. I know a lot of people who don't like this one, but I adore it. It always makes me cry.

poking around on youtube.com to get my buffy fix till netflicks arrives and stumbled on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdd2gOBqHsQ
it's a fan-made trailer for a buffy/angel/(firefly) spin-off movie using clips from all three shows.
it's really well done, in my opinion. and while it helps to have seen firefly, only one character from that show is featured in it, and it's mostly buffy/angel related.
just thought i'd share.

i know! isn't it almost seamless how those three actresses come off as one person, based on really selective cuts?
and yes, her name (the character's) is River Tam. you should watch Firefly. it's excellent.

I've watched part of Serenity--it seems terrific, I just haven't had the time to get into it yet (not that I imagine it would be very hard, considering how many episodes there are).
And yeah, I was really impressed by that, especially, but also the use of clips, and I thoroughly enjoyed the reappearence of Andrew (as I did in the episode referrenced).
Rupert Giles sent one of his best men to deal with the rogue slayer.
That man happened to be Andrew.
What?
