What is the purpose of this topic‽

Good question. It seems like a complete randomness type thing.

I think you missed out on the joke inherent in my choice of punctuation :P

So, if we do not use the character, which order do you, personally believe it should go in? I tend to stick with "which is this sentence more of, an exclamation, or a question?"

So:

"What are you doing here?!"

And "I just wanted to know how you feel!?"

Okay, so the latter rarely happens or makes any sense. But I feel like I have to justify my use of "!?" for years in some way, before being told the "proper" way is "?!"

I definitely go with?! The primary function of the sentence is a question, the exclamation point is just emphasis.

Also, bang. Bang. Bangity-bang. I said a-bang bang bang, bangity-bang.

That goes through my head every time I read this thread title.

into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

I always, always go "!?" just on how they look together. I have no clue if that's the proper way (or if there even is a proper way). This "?!" just looks wrong and feels like trying to shove two magnets together with the same pole.

That's how I always felt, but I was harshly corrected. By many places on the internet. :(

Aww, man. Now it's going to be like when you learn a song lyric a certain way and love it only to find out you've been singing it wrong the entire time. It just feels off.

So much this. I never heard of doing it !? until this thread. That makes me think of people who state things as questions because they're unsure rather than someone asking a question enthusiastically/incredulously.

I'm just amazed this is a real punctuation mark that has been around for decades.
