I don't know what you're talking about, I had a pretty good time! If I said anything that led you to believe otherwise, I apologize.

No need to apologize. I've apparently been misinterpreting things. Go me!

Claire, if you'd like a real account of the weekend, I can PM it to you now that it's all typed out. :) Pretty sure it's too long to put here.

Wow. That stinks that it didn't turn out. Sorry I didn't make it. I hope that you decide to do it again sometime when I don't have car issues. Or decide you can make a day trip to Wisconsin. I have central air and a big tv...

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Hmm. Think Ed would come back? I feel like I owe him a re-do, with less heat, more sunblock, and a better tour guide.
It is a goal to get to St. Louis, somewhere in WI, and/or Detroit in the next year but it is both time and money dependent, neither of which I have a terribly large amount of, at least not at the same time.
I'd also be okay with doing stuff in Chicago again, so long as I am not in charge of things. I'm happy most anywhere here; others tend to be a bit more picky.

And of course coming to NYC at least for a day to hang out with me.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Well a train ride to Wisconsin from Chicago costs about 15 bucks round trip. The rest doesn't have to be and prolly won't be expensive. Id pick you up from the station. And we could hit Madison for the day. See my home town for about two hours. Go to frosty freeze for some ice cream. Prolly get away with a 30 dollar trip. Unless you wanted to go to fancy places.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
I currently owe myself $120.26; until I pay myself back and get a bit of a surplus going, I have to "blow" my money on things that are actually going somewhere sometime soon, relatively speaking, like Shannon and Les Mis.
I should be able to make it up to myself soon enough -at least within the month- so I can probably swing a trip up there soon enough if you don't make it down here.

The zoo was pretty fun! We kept making Jungle Book and/or Lion King references for just about every animal.

Alright, cowpokes (I don't know why I just said that), Minneapolis Meetup is happening July 14th. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend the MM. If no one else goes, Shannon and I will have fun without you.

I can't be there, but may I request that you have a birthday cake in my honor since you're having the party without me?

Like, the Minneapolis I (practically) live in?!?! THE DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY?!
Is it only that one day? What's the plan? I must try to clear out my calendar immediately...
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Of course, Steph! If we see Kelly, we'll try to do some sort of combined birthday celebration. :)
So, because Shannon is in MN for her internship, I had started looking at various forms of transit to where she is, only to find for pretty much all of them, I'd have to go through Minneapolis or they flat out didn't have routes to where she is. It seemed easier and cheaper to just go to the Twin Cities instead of going directly to her. I assumed the reverse, her heading to Chicago, would be equally a pain in the butt, though I wouldn't be surprised if someone easily found a way...that's just the luck I've been having lately.
Anywho. July 14th, just for the day since I'll be in transit to and from for roughly, and literally, half a day. No set plans as of yet for what we'll get up to. The obvious things to come up in conversation were the MoA and Walker.
I'm waiting on zero to decide if he's going before I buy my tickets but there's a decent chance I'll be there from about 7AM to 10PM, which is totally not to say anyone has to be there that long with me. I just want to get the most bang for my buck and will want to take pictures of things I saw the last time I was there but didn't have the camera/thought to capture them with. :)

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Early actually works great for me. It's likely that if I can rearrange my schedule for that day (because of course I'm booked. We're basically booked through Christmas. I am marrying a Planner) the morning will be the easiest part of the day to free-up. And I get up at 5:00AM like a crazy person.

What flavor would you like?I can't be there, but may I request that you have a birthday cake in my honor since you're having the party without me?
I hope you can make it, Kelly. Then it'd be even more awesome than it already is. Plus, I need two Pwebbers to make me Real, right? zero would be cool too though--work on your womanly powers of persuasion, Alea!
And yea, pretty much everything from where I am to Chicago goes through Minneapolis or costs three times as much to go straight from here. The shuttle vans to Minneapolis leave as early as five or six, so I could even meet you when you get in! Then we can figure out the joys of Twin Cities public transportation together!

But I sure bet they provide great opportunities for stories afterward.
I'm convinced my train this weekend really didn't break down, now. I think it was a hijacking and the object was to not let the train go over one mile per hour or we'd asplode and the reason we were able to start moving again was because Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock came to rescue us. We'll all look back on that experience and refer to it as Languor.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
I'm starting to think Alea is stalking me or has at least figured out my work schedule, the 14th falls on another of my long weekends.
So I guess sign me up as a maybe. I'll need to look into flights since that's a bit too far to drive.

Okay, tickets purchased (as of right now, zero is not joining me). I will be arriving shortly before 7AM and will be leaving late but will possibly be having dinner with some other folks in the area, depending on what's happening with those of us who make it to Minneapolis.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
(Which is to say, if Pwebbers stick around up to or later than dinner, I will make sure they're priority.)
More info I should have included: I'll be coming in somewhere near the Metrodome, which is close to the river (one thing I wanted pictures of) and is about 2 miles from Walker. From what I can remember, the MoA is in the boonies but accessible by public transit and if Kelly can clear up time, she might have ideas on what other things we might do for fun.
Okay, I think that's all I had.

Yay!
The shuttle vans drop people off at Mall of America or the airport. They both are pretty far from downtown, but I can hop a bus there. That seems like as good a starting place as any.
I'll ask people around here what things there are to do there. If I go up there sometime between now and then--if the people who keep saying we're going to go actually decide to go--I'll keep an eye out for awesome things.

Had a lovely evening with Claire last night. :) We ate dinner downtown, then went for a walk, grabbed some gelato, and ended it all with a drink in Wicker Park.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Double POST.
I'm not excited about making the trip down and up in one day, so I'll probably find a couch to sleep on Friday evening and be ready to party as early as needed. Mass transit in Minneapolis isn't horrible, but I will have a five passenger vehicle at my disposal if we'd prefer to avoid it.
Let's see, things to do in the Cities... Science Museum? The Zoo? Twins game?
