I'm such a liar; apparently I did do this last year.

Lists are not ranked in any way.

8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I
9. The Prestige (first time viewing)
10. Nature on PBS

Top Ten Books I Read (for the first time) in 2010 (note: this list is wonky because 2010 is the year I reread all my favorite books over and over and over again. It was hard to remember anything other than those):

1. THE MILLENIUM TRILOGY by Steig Larsson
2. MOCKINGJAY by Suzanne Collins (again, not because I enjoyed it, but because it was the end of the series).

5. BIRD BY BIRD by Anne Lamott
6. IN COLD BLOOD by Truman Capote

9. Last cabin weekend
10. Weekend my mother and Grandmother came to visit.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

1. 2010: How do you pronounce it? Two thousand ten
2. Make a facial expression that shows how you feel about the year.
3. The best thing I bought was my wedding dress. I mean, I picked it out in 2009, but technically didn't buy it until 2010, so it counts.
4. For me, 2010 was joyous, emotional, struggle.
5. I totally cringed this year when I accidentally dine and dashed my wedding reception.
6. The best thing on the Internet by far was pweb.
7. I'm pretty sure I overshared on Facebook/Pweb this year when I N/A.
8. The best day of the year was October 9, 2010. Duh. October 6, 2010 was a close second.
9. The best place I visited was Grand Forks, ND, which is a lot of miles/kilometers from where I live.
10. Next year, I'm planning to find a bigger place to live, work hard on getting my billables increased, and maybe get knocked up (this may be my moment of oversharing).

Ten moments list to follow, probably.
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

1. 2010: How do you pronounce it? Two thousand ten. At least at the beginning of the year. I eventually started saying Twenty-Ten cause everyone was saying it.
2. Make a facial expression that shows how you feel about the year. :).
3. The best thing I bought was a funnel cake. (My parents/ relatives/ friends all bought me my favorite things acquired during 2010. The funnel cake was my favorite thing that I bought myself.
4. For me, 2010 was better than last year, by far. But I expect 2011 to be even better.
5. I totally cringed this year when I learned I'll have to have two more oral surgeries because of one uncooperative tooth.
6. The best thing on the Internet by far was EBay.
7. I'm pretty sure I overshared on Facebook/Pweb this year when I ... well nothing, really. I admit, I don't have a Facebook, and haven't been super active on PWeb lately. But apparently, people like to quote me on Facebook a lot. I've heard things...
8. The best day of the year was one of many... I can't decide. But it would be between the day I got elected Class Secretary, or the day I saw my new baby cousin, or the day I made this incredible save (I'm a soccer goalkeeper) during this important tournament and at the end of the game, everyone came screaming onto the field to hug me.
9. The best place I visited was Seattle, Washington, which is many miles from where I live.
10. Next year, I'm planning to be a better person, and help others do the same.
You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

2011 was pretty much awesome for me.

I finished the classroom portion of vet school.
I started my clinical rotations.
I got MARRIED.
Went on a week long Caribbean cruise.
I lived with my husband for a month before having to come back to school. (Ok, being separated kind of sucks.)
My husband got a job in Charlotte, NC.
We rented the CUTEST little house in a really great part of town.
I got a job offer (salary discussion still pending.)

I expect 2012 to be even better! I graduate from vet school, move to Charlotte, start actually being a veterinarian, and intend to start trying to get pregnant!

I was a big fan of 2011. Even the bad stuff.

In no particular order:

-Finished grad school, the bane of my existance.
-Lost 22 pounds
-Ran my first two 5Ks
-Started swing dancing again
-Built my first computer
-Had my home infested by mice (wasn't good at the time, but it forced me to start doing dishes rather than leaving them in the sink)
-Boyfriend got deported (I miss him, but it's nice to have this year to myself before we settle down)
-Rejoined Pweb
-Learned to play D&D
-Was offered (and accepted) a full-time government job
-Wrote my first freelance article
-Spent tons of time with my friends and family

Out of curiosity, what style? Swing--lindy, especially--is one of the things I really miss here.

Lindy! DC has a pretty decent sized swing-dancing scene, and I've been dancing lindy for eight years or so.

You haven't been able to find a group in your neck of the woods? I know that it's pretty popular on the coasts of the U.S., but I don't really know about elsewhere.

I used to do it in Toronto, and there's definitely groups in some of the cities not too far from here. The catch is we don't have an affordable way to get there. I think there's salsa and such here, but it's Lindy that I miss!

How do you measure a year in the life?

In pictures, of course! (That is if you want to make Alea's day!)

I tried to pick candid shots to show more of real life. There are captions for each picture, if you are interested in what we were doing!

Thanks, guys. It really was an amazing year. I've had someone tell me yesterday when talking about my year's end: "I've heard that 2011 was a bad year for a lot of people!" I told her, my year was AWESOME! We just had some trials at the end.

Um, yeah, Casa Bonita is a very real place. Was it featured on South Park or something?

Casa Bonita is the must-take-place for out of town visitors. (Right, Alea?) The food is TERRIBLE, but you just fill up on the all-you-can-eat sopapillas instead. The atmosphere is epically awesome: cliff divers on the waterfall, complete with the cheesiest skits you've ever seen (with bonus bad mics!), Black Bart's cave, pinatas and puppet shows for the kids, tables in nooks and crannies of every mine, cave, and adobe house.

Please, everyone come visit and we'll have pweb night at Casa Bonita!!!

Two Zero One Two,
There was just so much to do.
Two Zero One Three,
You better be prepared for me!

It's that time of year again to get all mirror-like and start reflecting on things.

Guys, it's been a whole year and NONE of you came to visit so I could take you to Casa Bonita.

Shame on you all.

2012

I had a baby. And that's pretty much it.
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

2012:

Changed jobs and as a result am much happier. It's also resulted in me seeing my best friend almost five days out of the week (I work with her). Had a scare with my Mom's health, but that turned out great and just brought us even closer.

Overall, it's been one of the better years.
