Ender Wiggin HAS BEEN CAST!!!!!

Postby Craig » Thu Nov 17, 2011 8:43 pm

According to Deadline, the role of Ender Wiggin in Gavin Hood's adaptation has been offered to Asa Butterfield. I haven't seen a lot he's been in, but he is lead character is Martin Scorsese's new movie HUGO. My initial thoughts are... Well, I don't really have any initial thoughts outside of absolute excitement. I'm a little nervous as he's 14 years old, but hey, if he has the acting chops I can forgive age.

What are your thoughts?

I didn't even want to watch Hugo.

I hope he has a good language coach. It would be more than a little odd if Ender has a British accent.

Correction: The report says that Butterfield has been offered the role, not that he has accepted/signed (IE, "cast"). Nothing appears to be official yet. Let's see if this turns out (most likely, it will.)

And from something I heard recently, the production of EG "is in full swing." Apparently, they've already done a lot of pre-production planning (which is UNFORTUNATE, since I wanted in on that!)

It's true... Hood has hired his Art Director and Costume Director -- both of which have large sci if movies under their belts (AVATAR and TR2N, respectively). If anything, the movie will look great, but I'm hoping for more!

If Jake Lloyd gets to be Ender, I should get to be Petra. I'm younger than he is! They cast 20-somethings and 10 year olds all the time.

Jake Lloyd will have a cameo role as Mick, the guy that takes Ender's pudding.

Sorry, but that role belongs to Dakota Fanning, who is apparently still only 17? Shouldn't she be in her 20s by now?

Since I started reading the books, Ender had the AI little boy's face.... Too bad he's all grown up now...

Haha, Haley Joel Osment was all the rage to claim to play Ender, back in the day. Alas, unless we did a complete revamp of the script to allow 23-year-olds, he's pretty much out. Of course, if they did that, suddenly a huge group of P-Webbers would be viable for casting! So maybe it is good to hope.

I don't think they'd let us in the movie if we're sitting in prison for murdering the guy who writes the 20-year-old Ender script.

Last month in a hotel computer room, I found script pages for another movie involving a character named Achilles, but it seemed to be set in Boston. I IMBD-ed the casting company and they didn't seem to be attached to the Ender's development.

I was very disappointed.

I'm liking this kid. This is the appropriate response to getting the part of Ender: "Oh yes. Im really doing it. F*** YEAAA!!!"

And he makes good video game decisions: "EA's 'Battlefield 3' vs Activision's 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' My vote is going with BF3"
"Roland was staring at Tiffany, so nonplussed he was nearly minused."

Given the role he is going to be playing someone needs to introduce him to Starcraft.

I will do it. I will shoulder that burden.

A 11 year old would have been believable. 14, not so much. Very skeptical about this decision.

It's all going to depend on how much he grows during filming. He still looks young enough to pull it off (since the script has been changed to 10 years old), but he's at the age where that won't last long.
