The what? There's a way to not get your hand completely covered in graphite after writing for a couple of hours?

Syphon, your new avatar freaks me out. Whither the Mad Men cartoon?
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

I don't agree with Scalia on a lot of things, but man, you can't disagree with the guy's style.

Frank Easterbrook's (Seventh Circuit) style is even better. He's pretty much a badass.

Okay, so instead of doing something really scenic or even something artsy, I decided to share a picture of something that really reminds me of fall around here. This is an apple place about five minutes away from me, that is open year round, but is absolutely mobbed in the fall. People drive from hours away to come to this place. Tour buses come, people pose for pictures, it's crazy. I tried to take a picture on a mid-week afternoon but it was still packed with cars. They have the BEST cider donuts (they just won first place!) and have dozens of varieties of locally grown apples (that you can pick yourself, of course). They also have all kinds of other locally grown produce. Oh, and they also have a distillery where they make apple vodka. But the donuts...oh, they are just so good. Anyway, they have this giant apple balloon in the sky from September 1st through the end of October every year. So, when I see it up, I know it's fall!

That glass decoration is awesome! Was it really just hanging on there?

I *think* I see somebody's finger holding it up there at the edge of the picture. But it's adorable nonetheless. :)

Nomi does in fact see my finger holding him there. He was a Halloween table top decoration (it says BOO above his head) and he smiled so big at me, I figured I ought to do him the favor of letting him get a drink of water. Who knows how long it was since he last got some of the old H2O.

Brilliant photos, especially the first one!

Love the pumpkin, Shannon. Is that a specific owl, like Hedwig, or just generic owl?

And Teresa, the color in those pictures is so vibrant. Simply amazing. I'm glad Cleo was a part of those; she's gorgeous.

Yay! I was worried about November's challenge not coming. I shall have to use this as an excuse to make something yummy.

It was just a generic owl.

Yours could work for October AND November since pumpkins are food! :D

Also: This month it is on! There will be something food related posted, I promise! I can't promise it will be a good photo, since my phone SUCKS at taking photos (it does GREAT video, just horrible photos...) but it will be of something yummy. :D

From the FAQ:
Q: How do I post pictures?

You'll need to upload them to another site first. Sites like Flickr, Photobucket and TinyPic do it for free.

Here's a great step by step instruction for tinypic.
1) Go to http://www.tinypic.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2) Click the "Browse" button in the middle of the page, near the top.
3) Browse your computer and find the picture and click "Open"
4) Click the "Upload Now" button and wait.
5) When it finished, find the line "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards"
6) Click the text box below that. It will automatically copy.
7) Go to make a new post and paste (ctrl+v or right click->paste) the line. It should look like:
http://i36.tinypic.com/xxxxxxx.jpg[ /i m g] (without the space)
