For those of us in the race, we might soon win the right to wear one of these:

Thanks to whoever made it so the bots don't show up on the registered users (online) list on the index. That was driving me nuts.
And did Satya's title change today or did I miss that before? Hopefully that's okay for him while he thinks of one he wants but in the meantime, *whispers* yay.
It's perfectly suitable. I haven't really thought of anything else.

Hmm, so, I've seen my name in the "techie" section in several posts now... I suppose it's not too presumptuous if I created a Tech account, correct?
Does it have to be TechZeroguy or whatever, though? That capital Z is just... so unrainbow not me.

Can someone explain what is what in this image? I think we've been through this before but I can't remember. I can't quite see the faceplant in it.

Re: New and Exciting Things about this New and Exciting Boar
It took me forever to see it. John finally explained it to me so I got it.
Okay, starting from the left. The roundish part is the head (side view of a head that is faceplanted). The white and red stripey things are the arms and hands. Moving over to the top right is the shoe, with a little white stripe separating the shoe and the pants. (The red under the shoe would be the legs.)
Hope this helps. I couldn't see it forever, but once I saw it, I couldn't un-see it.

Thank you! I think it would be better with multiple colors...or something.

Sorry, Helen, I can't see it as a fox either.
And, Alea, I don't know who that is either. Some video game character, I assume? Was this part of the ten year Pweb challenge? I feel like it was.

is , just standing up. They're the same Final Fantasy fighter; I was showing you that to say he can't really be multi-colored given his character is all red, white, and flesh-toned.
But yes, I asked about him for the ten year Pweb challenge, precisely because people had a hard time figuring out who he was/what he was from on 2.0.

Re: New and Exciting Things about this New and Exciting Boar
Well, I can understand that NOW. But seeing as I couldn't even see how he was a faceplant, let alone a specific character...yeah. I had no way of knowing what specific character he was. Although, even seeing him as a standing up character didn't help me to know which character he was. My brothers would have known, though they are more Chrono fans than FF.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your post. For what it's worth, I only know who it is because of Pweb, not because I know anything about any video games. I found the conversation from 2.0 in Wayback a few years ago. :)

I did some cleanup of the smilies, so all the smilies are still available, but for some of the bigger ones you'll have to click on the "view more smilies" button.

I'll just leave this here:
This is rather important, I think. And by running, I might mean "saving" but I don't know.
Now may be a good time to ask; are we running backups somehow?

Re: New and Exciting Things about this New and Exciting Boar
I'm not trying to ignore the question. It's really a good one. I've tried several backups from within the PHPBB software and they all fail, probably because the database is too large or something.
I've been making backups of the files that will be changed when I install a new Mod, so I can roll back the changes if something goes horribly wrong: see earlier today when I tried installing a spam filtering mod and it borked the board. I was able to upload my backed up files and fix the problem relatively quickly. I'm not sure if others are being as careful about it when they are making their changes.
I'd like to see some sort of automated backup process and an off site backup stored somewhere. I'd be willing to create a dropbox account and grant others access to that account as a place to store a backup of all the site files and database on a different server from the one it's hosted on, but since I can't run backups without installing phpmyadmin or something like that, I'd like to work with one of the other techs to get this set up.

I moved the question here so you would hopefully know it's directed at more than just you. I'd hate to let that detail fall by the wayside and have it bite us in the butt later, and I think we're all responsible for making sure that gets taken care of.

Re: New and Exciting Things about this New and Exciting Boar
The initial database extraction I did just ran mysqldump from php, which seems to work fine (it's in /zeroguy/ somewhere still, I assume; I don't have time to look at it now). So, have one page, call it /backup/extract.php, which runs mysqldump to a file, call it /backup/dump.sql.gz. Then just have a cron job run somewhere offsite that loads /backup/extract.php, and 10 minutes later downloads /backup/dump.sql.gz. Protect /backup/ with simple http authentication like I had done in /zeroguy/. "Somewhere offsite" presumably being hosting that some of us already have (I have a few places I can run this from) or just from your own machines at home if you know how. Backups rotation and retention can be managed offsite.but since I can't run backups without installing phpmyadmin or something like that, I'd like to work with one of the other techs to get this set up.
That's pretty basic, but it'll work pretty well for a single backup site. I can work out some details for something more robust later (throw some timestamps or lockfiles in there so you don't get two backups running at the same time).
Also, I'm going to be out of the country next week, so I don't know if I'll be able to do much of anything soon.

It's really only partially working. It was supposed to put the search bots in their own section on another line, but we (Noodle, myself and whoever else was in chat that night) decided it's actually better this way. Thanks to whoever made it so the bots don't show up on the registered users (online) list on the index. I also added another BB code.
