Oh man, I wish I could find the creepy book I remember from a few years ago at work. It was something like "I'm right behind you". So creepy. Who thinks these are good books for kids??

ETA: FOUND IT! It's called, "Look out, He's Behind You" ...I guess the creepiness is more the words themselves then the illustrations.

Very creepy. I did the "look inside" thing on amazon--I'm pretty sure the pictures inside the book are just as creepy, if not more so.

Then, after they pull out they go 20mph or less so they never approach cars ahead of them on the road. If anything, there is lots of traffic backed up behind them. You are either way ahead of them, stuck behind them, or stopping at an intersection to let them go by.

This is what was going through my head, reading that discussion. I'm not sure what people mean by "pulling over for a funeral procession"... in the way that you pull over for an ambulance or something? As in, they're behind you, and you pull over, and continue after they've gone on a ways? I thought they always went extremely slowly, so... how would they ever approach you from behind?

I don't think I've ever seen a procession while driving, but I don't drive very often.

I use the 8 pound one and sometimes a 10 pound one. my fingers just cant hold anything larger, especially since the holes are so big.

Erm, I use the kids' bowling balls, which are generally 6 lbs or less...

Candlepin bowling is where it's at. Miss you, East Coast.

The ball I throw ranges from 14 to 16 pounds. Depending on the situation and the lane conditions, I will use a particular ball.

Lane conditions? How does it vary on an indoor, artificial lane?

The amount and type of oil used on lanes effects how much a ball will curve. Dryer conditions mean the ball will catch earlier and have a much more dramatic curve. More oil on the lanes lets the ball slide further before it grips the lane. If you don't curve the ball much or at all, then it probably doesn't matter. But I do throw a curve, so I have different balls for different conditions. Then again, they have been sitting in my garage for years.

Wow. I had no idea. My brother took a bowling class in college and he is the most into bowling of anyone I know, which isn't saying much. I'll go maybe once every year or two. I enjoy it but it's just not something that people I hang out with do very often. I'm also not terribly good at it.

Kelly, I've never gone candlepin bowling but I've heard all about it. My stepfather is from New Hampshire.

Tell us about candlepin bowling!

It was invented in Massachusetts in the late 1800s and is popular in New England and apparently parts of Canada?

Three balls per frame. The balls are much, much, much smaller. No holes, and you can pretty much grip one in a single hand. The pins have a different shape--straight columns, rather than bulbous and much thinner (rather like a large candlestick), though there are still ten of them. The toppled pins aren't cleared away between balls.

It's what I grew up playing. I didn't play real, ten-pin bowling until college. I still think it's kind of weird; can't get used to it.
