Re: Things that I love
Watching my cats bathe themselves. Not when they're just doing a quick face wash, although, that's fun, too. When they're really entranced by their mission of getting their fur completely cleansed. They're so systematic, and it's fun wondering how on earth they decide a particular spot needs to be washed all over again. They look so happy, so fully participating in this favorite act. Plus, watching Reece do tail-washing maintenance is hilarious, because he pounces on his tail, first, and then washes it very frenetically, as if he's worried it's going to escape again.
I let Reece on the bed last night when I had an awful headache and Donny and I watched him. It was like, "Why bother with TV when this is so entertaining?" It helped me relax, really.

Re: Things that I love
Haha, one of mine (Maggie) does this exact thing. It's like "If you're going to make a game out of it, why don't you make a game out of washing, say, your feet?"Plus, watching Reece do tail-washing maintenance is hilarious, because he pounces on his tail, first, and then washes it very frenetically, as if he's worried it's going to escape again.
Also, is it the new forum, or do you double-space after your periods? I'm mostly curious because I recently kicked that habit myself, and because the actual post doesn't have double-spaces, just what I quoted from you.

Re: Things that I love
I double space after periods. I can't help myself. It's a habit I cannot seem to kick, even though I know it's no longer APA style. Actually, when I write a paper, what I do is use the search/replace feature and replace the double space with single space, because that's faster for me.

I had no idea you were no longer supposed to double space. I always do it. That's how I learned to type as a legal secretary.

Re: Things that I love
double space was only needed for typewriters/monospaced fonts. It's really not needed anymore for computers and modern fonts. But I can't seem to kick the habit.

Re: Things that I love
I always double space. Thankfully, I've never had any teachers who were picky about format changes--I think they're double spacers themselves--so I never really tried to kick the habit. It looks prettier to me, with most fonts. I think the only time I don't do it is when I'm texting and it automatically adds a space after the period.

Re: Things that I love
I'm seriously not looking down on you guys, because I mostly agree that it looks better, and it's definitely how I was taught. I did it until about eight months ago when, coincidentally, a number of people sent me things about how you're not supposed to. As an avid typographer, I realized that I had to move with new norms.
Of course, after forcing myself to change, I now have the awesome ability to switch between them at will and be just as fluid. See? Just now. I'm double-spacing.
Plus I type things in notepad all the time, for clients and such, and monospaced requires double-spacing pretty much. So it's an awesome skill to have.

I never double-spaced until I became editor of a journal that had a double-space guideline.

I love oxford commas. I always use them. Always have.oxford comma.
The copyeditor at work deletes them before going to press and it drives me crazy to no end.

HELL YES, OXFORD COMMA.
Sorry, Yebra's appearance apparently made me caps-lock happy. But still, yes. Oxford comma forever.

Is the oxford comma not okay anymore?I double space and oxford comma.
(I had to look up what an oxford comma was, but I am definitely a prolific user of them).
Why do I have the typing habits of an old typewriter person? I've had computers and typing classes in school since like 3rd grade.

Re: Things that I love
I was taught to never do the Oxford comma in elementary school, so this sudden outcry not to use it is kind of like "uh, duh?" and kind of annoying because, like everyone else logical, I find it necessary to resolve ambiguities.

OXFORD COMMA ALL THE WAY!
I was taught it in elementary school, ignored the last time it went out of vogue, and am also planning on ignoring this time.
It just makes more sense. It's aesthetically more pleasing. I prefer it.
(Also, I have never, ever cared for that whole "when in doubt, leave it out" comma aphorism.)

I love when my cat, Buffy, pokes me. She'll crawl up on my chest, lay down, stretch one paw out and poke my face. If I tell her "no poke!" she'll pause, and just lay there with her paw outstretched towards my face.
