I've used the noun form of affect many times and I have not taken any Psychology classes or worked in any field that would lead to me encountering it. But I do know lots about mental illness. :)

Effect can also be a verb: I wish to effect change.

WILL THE LINGUISTIC LANDMINES EVER END.
Yeah, but THAT one is esoteric. :D
Wait, really? I was mostly just referring to the effect-noun/effect-verb/affect-verb trifecta earlier. I still haven't heard affect-noun in everyday use (and I didn't know it existed until I looked it up, and even these days I still tend to forget what it means), but the other three I've seen plenty of times before.
And of course in Canada the whole thing's flip-flop.
If it's result-y and a noun, you're in "effect" town!

The random, funny moments I have with random people in the lunch line.

Making fun of a specific freshman dorm, in the middle of a group of people from that dorm, during the freshman dorm competition.

The Going Green! Dorm dancing/singing to f****** Captain Planet theme song. Too legit. lol I guess they deserved to win.

Zinger of the day: That blue hand you painted on your face *points at my blue dorm tshirt from last year* is the hand of our dorm slapping the s*** out of its competition. Haha. /zing

I laughed so hard I cried and couldn't breathe. Oh lord.
Friends would come to my house and we'd start an innocuous enough game, like hide and seek. One or two rounds would pass, at most, before my jaded, over-stimulated child-brain needed to up the ante. Now it was hide and seek, but also freeze tag. Then it was team hide and seek. Then the boundaries expanded and expanded, eventually disappearing entirely. Three hours later and we're playing something called "night fighting" which, stunningly, is exactly what it sounds like: Night-time hide and seek where you fought everybody after you found them. That game inexplicably lasted an entire summer, and by the end, every player had jury-rigged up A-Team-esque specialty weapons. Nick built a nightstick out of PVC pipe and filled it with sand. Sean wrapped an aluminum bat in Nerf foam. Mickey had one of those flexible cable bike locks, with a padlock snapped onto each end. He called them bike-chucks. I had a golf club with the head broken off; I'd sharpened the remaining metal shaft on the pavement. It wasn't the most damaging weapon, (that was Mickey's bike-chucks, of course) but the psychological factor was not to be discounted. Once discovered, I would charge at my opponents, screaming and dragging the steel tip on the asphalt, sparks hurling up behind me into the night. It didn't matter that I'd only leave a nasty welt if my blow connected, but Mickey would knock my teeth out if his landed; for a minute there, I was half Back to the Future and half Highlander. Looking badass adds like 10 damage points to any move. Everybody knows that.

Somehow I stumbled on a collection of Harry Potter "Yo Momma" jokes, and I CANNOT stop laughing.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Same here but I had to laugh because that's been my experience in this house. Plenty of holes have been made trusting one of those buggers, only to realize a little too late there was not, in fact, a stud there. I've tried the old fashioned knock on the wall to listen for one trick but I'm just as bad with that method.

I love whispering "Nom nom nom" at Naomi when she's feeding. I then giggle.

This could have also gone in the "things that remind me of pwebbers" thread.

My dog is scared of vacuum cleaners and I always assumed it was the noise that did it. Tonight on our walk, she spotted one outside a house and she must have jumped a foot or two in the other direction. Apparently, it's just the sight of them now that scares her, perhaps because she knows what they are capable of doing.

Because we have chickens on the library lawn and they run past the front door sometimes. Even without the smiley comparison, that makes me laugh.

I didn't want to derail the occupy Wall Street thread, but...

Three Rings for the Asian-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Euro-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Americans doomed to die,
One Percent: the Dark Lords on their dark thrones
In the Land of Wall Street where the Shadows lie.
One Economy to rule them all, One Dow to find them,
One FED to bring them all and in their Poverty bind them;
In the Land of Wall Street where the Shadows lie.
I don't want to do things. I want to not do things.

*laughs* Yep, that made me laugh too.

And also making me laugh is that Nom just farted and startled herself awake. Flailing limbs and all.

The two above posts made me laugh.
Same, but the first of the two more because of the second than the other way around.

Okay, this was found on my shelf a week or two ago and it was more of a laugh or cry thing; I chose laugh.
