On JT? Oh my, no, though I can see how it might look that way over at SR. I really do just love his voice/music, not to mention the lyrics make me think of a Pwebber...so yeah.
But, if you'd like to lovingly tease me about boys, I made a complete fool of myself yesterday. I was upstairs shelving and all my coworkers were downstairs doing heaven knows what, so when my supervisor looked around to see who could give one of the newer library guys from Main a tour, I was right in his line of sight.
You've been around me, you know I'm pretty calm 99% of the time...not so much yesterday. Certain people turn me into a complete spaz within moments of meeting them and this guy from Main is apparently one of them. I could not shut up or find one intelligent thing to say. I think my coworker noticed I was being a spaz because she saw fit to tell me what a nice boy he was, after.

Guilty as charged; I am rather silly. But music is so fun and awesome and needs to be loved and appreciated.
I don't mind spazzing out in front of a boy, so much as I mind spazzing out in front of people, period. I also consistently do this around a female librarian from Main but it happens more around males when it happens at all.

Gata Brasileira came up on my MP3 player today and reminded me of how much I love Portuguese and this song in particular.

Listening to the Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga OST. Shoji Meguro is a musical god.
-Because you protected this ephemerally floating world by your own hand
Now simply fold your wings and sleep restfully
Be wrapped up in an eternal tranquility, and love through all eternity
Sleep, by this hand of mine that gently watches over you
I remember you laughing, you crying, you angry
I will never forget for all time until my life is exhausted-

I've been listening to Adele's new album, 21, since it came out on the 22nd.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

So Lupe Fiasco's long-delayed album, Lasers leaked a few days ago, and despite being one of the artists I'd gladly fork over cash to support, I'd be pissed if I had paid cash for this. By my reckoning, this album is about 1 part worthwhile music, 2 parts "Recovery"-style self-therapy on record, and 3 parts horrible, generic pop music that sounds more like Lupe's a guest on his own album. He's given a number of interviews to that effect, the majority of these songs are prepackaged bits Atlantic Records had ready, and then simply insert Lupe's lyrics over. B.o.B.'s recent hit, "Nothing On You" was apparently first meant to be a song on Lasers, but he couldn't come to consensus with the label over his verses. Apparently every song on this album except "Words I Never Said" and "All Black Everything" were produced in this manner, and it shows. The music is utterly soulless.
I know I'm being overdramatic, but this was the first album I've genuinely looked forward to in years, and it's tragically disappointing.

I was just about to make a post here saying something to the effect like "The longawaited Lasers will be on my ipod in only a day!" or something like that, but then I read this.So Lupe Fiasco's long-delayed album, Lasers leaked a few days ago, and despite being one of the artists I'd gladly fork over cash to support, I'd be pissed if I had paid cash for this. It's been leaked already?
I know certain songs like Beautiful Lazers, And The Show Goes On, and others were already leaked, but I didn't realize the whole album.
However, I don't understand how you can say that. I loved Beautiful Lasers/And The Show Goes On/Words I never said. The songs that were leaked a while ago are really good. I can't imagine that the rest of the songs are as "soulless" as you've claimed.
Let me go check...

is not the real version off the album, compared to this leaked version (2:20 on is nonlive leaked version)

....that actually is soulless. What the f***, this is bullshit!

Yeah, actually Lupe's verses on Beautiful Lasers were pretty good, but it's sandwiched between incredibly painful hooks and choruses.Hold the f*** up. Please tell me this autotuned Beautiful Lasers s***

Maybe I'm being prejudiced, but on most of these, even Lupe's delivery is half-hearted. You can just see him in the studio reading the lyrics off a sheet, going through the motions.
I'm betting you have the album in some form or another by now. Is there even a single lyric or turn of phrase on the whole thing that really amazed you? There's not a single song off The Cool that doesn't have amazing bits of poetry in it. Even All Black Everything here is totally straightforward, and while it's passionately delivered, it does have the feeling of having been carefully crafted as a work of art so much as it is a momentary rant.

No, you're right. I can't think of any amazing lyricism. Though, to be fair, I only like and listen to All Black Everything, Till I Get There, State Run Radio, and Letting Go (not counting the prior released songs that I'd heard for monthes).Yeah, actually Lupe's verses on Beautiful Lasers were pretty good, but it's sandwiched between incredibly painful hooks and choruses.Hold the f*** up. I don't know about the lyricism of the rest; I didn't like them enough to keep listening.
However, it's not like it's Lupe's fault. According to Lupe, they specifically told him not to rap to deeply or complex on the album. He and Atlantic Records conflicted pretty hard, to the point he was about to commit suicide, and so he had to make compromises to get this Album pushed out.
But yeah, you're right. Lupe even acknowledges this in his songs:
Hi youre on the air now what you wanna hear
Well we aint got the truth but how about a remix
Different is never good good is only what we pick
You aint got a hit unless it sounds like these did
Not too smart you will be a superstar
And if you dumb or something maybe you could be number one
You said it seemed soulless?
Things are getting out of control
Feels like I'm running out of soul
You're getting heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go
Despite the contrast to his song Dumb It Down, I really appreciate the meta thing that Lupe has going with this album. That and the passion he puts into certain songs makes it worth it to me.

The Rain it Rains, by Spiers and Boden. (It's the first song in that sequence.) Most everything I've heard by them as a pair or in their band, Bellowhead, has been spectacular.
The song itself is an adaptation from the end of TWELFTH NIGHT, which makes me love it all the more:

Clown:
[Sings]
When that I was and a little tiny boy,
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
A foolish thing was but a toy,
For the rain it raineth every day.
But when I came to man's estate,
With hey, ho, & c.
'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gate,
For the rain, & c.
But when I came, alas! to wive,
With hey, ho, & c.
By swaggering could I never thrive,
For the rain, & c.
But when I came unto my beds,
With hey, ho, & c.
With toss-pots still had drunken heads,
For the rain, & c.
A great while ago the world begun,
With hey, ho, & c.
But that's all one, our play is done,
And we'll strive to please you every day.

The entire Skunkworks album from Bruce Dickinson. In my opinion, it's a brilliant album, but I would never recommend it to anybody.
We can shed our skins and swim into the darkened void beyond
We will dance among the world that orbit stars that aren't our sun
All the oxygen that trapped us in a carbon spider's web
Solar winds are whispering, you may hear the sirens of the dead.

It's brilliant to me but every time I show it to people they cringe. It's one of those albums that you have to listen over and over again and be in the proper mood for it in order to truly appreciate it. I'm the only person I know who adores the album.
If I wanted to recommend a Bruce Dickinson album, I'd recommend The Chemical Wedding because it's the most appealing to people.

Yep.It's brilliant to me but every time I show it to people they cringe.
Books, movies, or music, I will come on Pweb (or,go out in meatspace) to tell people I thoroughly enjoyed/enjoy/am enjoying something but I like to tack the disclaimer on that I am only sharing my love for and enthusiasm of [whatever] and that I wouldn't think to actively recommend it to anyone else.
If they take my enthusiasm as such, that's on them because I know from experience that 9 out of 10 people are going to disagree with me and think my taste is terrible and sometimes you just want to be able to say, "I love this, this struck a chord with me; in that way, it is brilliant."

I've been listening to the radio a lot recently. Although this list won't mean much to people who don't live here, here's my favorite stations. In numerical order for lack of a better reason to sort them.
89.1 The Bash - Alternative
103.1 WGBF - Rock
105.3 Superhits - Classic rock/oldies
107.1 Jack FM - Pretty much anything*
107.5 WABX - Classic rock
*107.1 is, for all practical purposes, a massive iTunes collection set on shuffle. They don't have any DJs and don't take requests. I think this may be my favorite station. I hear music on Jack FM that I haven't heard anywhere else in years.

LOVE!!!!!! The whole opera is amazing music that I just love. I distinctly remember the moment when I realized that the guy who narrated the Harry Potter audio books was the same guy who plays Voltaire in the 1997 revival cast recording. As for myself, I've got Overture To Candide by Leonard Bernstein playing at the moment.

I actually don't know the rest of the music. I only know that particular piece because we played it (at half-time because it's so dang fast) in band class and I enjoyed it and hunted out a copy of that piece. Now I think I need to hunt out the rest of the opera!

I do love his voice work in Harry Potter and Pushing Daisies. I didn't know he sang as well! I'll have to look into it.I would recommend the 1997 revival cast so you can listen to Jim Dale. I love him!

After Nomi made that thread, I went and nabbed a copy of "Glycerin" by Bush and have given it a fair amount of airtime. The only thing is, Gavin Rossdale's accent comes through just enough that "Glycerin" starts to sound an awful lot like "Listerine" to me and that gets me to wondering if halitosis wasn't the cause of all the problems in that particular relationship.
