Congratulations, Moose family! At least, I am assuming that, as up until a few days ago you were over 10,000 votes in the lead, you won.

I apologize for letting a month go by.

Thank you so much for those who voted. Yes, we won, and I'm told it was a record-breaking number of votes.

We don't know much about the trip yet, except it should be in late March, and Safety First (tm) will be sponsoring it in part, providing us with new car seats for the kids, and possibly a stroller. I'll try to do better about keeping up to date info here.

A couple articles in local newspapers:

Ventura County Star
Camarillo Acorn

Again, our thanks to you all.

Aww, thanks for the update! I had some warm fuzzies reading about those friends with too much time on their hands. :) When they set up this blog thingie, will you send us the link?

Totally will do.

Hey, don't know if anyone here remembers Zevlag, but he's in an internet voting thing right now, too. A little less time-consuming, because it's one vote per IP, but if you'd like to help him out, the page is here. You know, if you need a little voting fix. It's a really tight race right now, though it goes until the end of the month. They're ahead by only 35 votes as I write this, and that's with over 1600 votes cast for them, so percentage-wise it's only around 2%.

I will get into that club
Late at night when the world grows still, and a peace upraises from your soul, I take that chance to blend myself, with all of nature as a whole.

Update. We got an e-mail a couple days ago from Parenting magazine telling us more about our trip:
Happy Friday winners of our family road trip!
We hope you’re excited—it’ll be here in a zip!

Your trip is finally coming together,
I know it feels like it’s taken forever!

You’ll be driving an Audi Q7 up Highway One,
While DVDs and games will provide road trip fun!

In Safety 1st car seats the kids will ride,
Onto our next stop—San Simeon’s pride.

To San Diego we will go,
But not before we hit the snow.

Pack your mittens, boots and winter wear,
You’ll enjoy your first time skiing—we swear!

Your Panasonic camera will capture memories,
Maybe whales, penguins and manatees??

Before we head back to your house,
You’ll spend some time with America’s favorite mouse.

We can’t wait to meet you and hope you liked our rhyme,
Be prepared for the trip of a lifetime!
So it looks like the definites are Hearst Castle, skiing (somewhere), Sea World, and Disney. We gonna have us some fun! Thank you again, voters!

Cross-posted:

Aaaah!!!

(Stressing over all these last-minute packing things.  And Mama's stressing more, because she's the competent one.)

The car is pretty dang sweet, but yes, fitting everything is gonna be a problem (read: not happening).  I think some of our stuff is gonna go in the chaperones' car.

I don't know how quickly they'll be updating the blog, but it's here.  And our chaperones are tweeting at @TPG_FamRoadTrip (whatever the heck one does with that -- we're not twitterererers).

Oh, guess I failed to update our itinerary. Mama did that elsewhere, but she ain't here I s'pose. Highlights:

Day 1 -- Hearst Castle

Day 2 -- Bakersfield local attractions (this is more of a layover than a stop, I think, to prevent a really long one-day drive)

Day 3 & 4 -- Skiing/snowboarding in Big Bear

Day 5 -- Sea World

Day 6 -- San Diego Zoo and (surprise for the football fanatic boys) tour of San Diego Chargers facility

Day 7 & 8 -- Disneyland/Disney's California Adventure

Day 9 -- Drive home and collapse

I'm looking forward to all of it. Including day 9.
