There's a new book coming out this november, about a boy (who else?) with the mystical power to see the past and also to change the past. one faction wants him crowned, one faction wants him killed.

A few years ago I would have been very excited to read this. Now, I find it impossible not to parse the jacket copy for the not-so-veiled political and religious allegory

that was exactly my thought, I'll definitely borrow that one first. After Empire and Ender in Exile, he dropped off my automatic buy list.

Halfway through and, in my opinion, it's much better (so far) than the past few books he's put out. It's also written (or is it just marketed?) specifically as Young Adult, so that's something to keep in mind.

I'll be back when I've finished it.

Syphon's review has moved it from bottom of the mental to-read pile to its sitting next to my current other book. I only had to wait 2 days to get it on hold, must not be very popular? HMMM.

I enjoyed it, but it kept me chuckling throughout, it was like an OSC mix tape of his greatest hits of worldbuilding.

I know I'm probably the only one to stumble upon OSC through a book other than Ender's Game, but Pathfinder is actually the first of his I read and I LOVED IT! I can't wait for the rest of the series. It lead me to read Lost Gate and then Ender and I am forever thankful that Borders went under and placed this on the disco rack before it closed. I picked it up on a whim and have never been a happier reader.

Have you mentioned elsewhere if you've read anything other than those three titles? If so, forgive me. I'm glad that you started on Pathfinder, if you had to start with a new one, given his new stuff tends to be hit or miss; Pathfinder was a solid, entertaining book.

So far I've read (in order): Pathfinder, Lost Gate, Empire, Hidden Empire, EG, SftD, Xenocide, CotM, Ender's Shadow, and currently reading Shadow of the Hegemon. Empire and sequel weren't as brilliant as the others but... I can't wait to finish the Bean/Shadow series. I have Shadows in Flight on my Christmas list even though it comes out in Jan. I just hope he doesn't drag his feet on Pathfinder and Lost Gate sequels. I'll be depressed when I finish in Enderverse.

I enjoyed Pathfinder quite a bit compared to some other of his recent books (Empire, blergh!). I hope you read some of his older, non-Ender, novels too. Pastwatch, Worthing Saga and Songmaster are some of my favorites.

And I wasn't sure where else to put this but I love your avatar! I'm not sure if you've discovered it yet but we have a whole thread about Hunger Games in the Milagre forum.

Haven't read any of the pre-Ender books/stories yet. I plan on making it through the OSC collection before long, but I'm a new fan and he has a lot to explore.

I finally picked up Pathfinder and I'm glad to see most people enjoyed it. It was on sale for $3.99 in the Kindle store. I haven't read any OSC since Ender in Exile so I'm happy to settle into another book of his!

Mergh. Sometimes I pretend that Alvin Maker doesn't exist so I don't get annoyed about that book not existing.

And I just realized I never posted my thoughts on Pathfinder (at least in this thread). It definitely reminded me of classic OSC and I loved it. I can't decide how I feel about a sequel though. I liked the way it ended, and don't want to risk ruining that.

The real question is this: has he ever actually finished a series (other than Homecoming)? I can't think of one. (ETA: I guess you can count Worthing, if you want. Sorta.)

I think he finished Ender if you can separate it from Bean. But I here you. With all the essays, comics, video games, movies, classes, and book series this man has going at once, I'm only cautiously optomistic I will see the conclusions to anything. Still, I will wait on pins and needles for Ruins and The Gate Thief.

Shadows Alive comes after Children of the Mind and is the "bridge" book between the Speaker series and the Shadow series, with characters from both series playing major roles.

Thanks! So, Shadows in Flight is a novella size continuation of the Shadow series with the final book, Shadow's Alive, still to come. Shadow's Alive is the one that brings the Shadow series full circle and has Bean's kids helping out new Peter, Jane, Miro, and Val. Will the brilliant Descoladores invent a cure for the children of Bean? I hope so.

I was pleasantly surprised! You could tell OSC took some time with this one, instead of just banging it out quickly. I found the Ram parts a bit confusing and hard to follow, but I knew they'd connect with the main story eventually (because that's standard OSC). It was nice to feel like I was reading an OSC book from 10 years ago, but I'm a little sad that it's the start of a new series, since he so rarely finishes series.

Kindel says I have read 48% read... I'm liking it a lot so far. like most have you have said it feels like old school OSC! I agree that the Ram parts are still confusing but I'm starting to realize how they might connect. Its taking me longer to read because my MIL is reading a book or 3 on her kindle right now too. So I have to take turns Can't wait to finish it!

This was, quite simply, one of the best Card books I have read, despite it being a 'young adult' title. I work at a Chapters store and am always happy to recommend any Card title to my sci-fi and fantasy customers. It boggles minds occasionally when I bring people my age (24) and over to the Teen Fiction section and recommend Pathfinder. I have had more than one of these customers come back and say how much they enjoyed Pathfinder. The story easily combines fantasy and sci-fi aspects and creates a whole new world. This book resonated with me in much the same way Treason did. I very much enjoy reading every new piece Card has to offer. I have just begun The Lost Gate and I'm enjoying it so far. More on that in the appropriate thread when I've read more.

Well, "Ruins" is out as of 30 October, I guess, and I chanced to see it laying out on the endless book tables at Costco, so I picked up the hard cover for $10.59... but haven't started reading it yet. I will soon

I'm kind of surprised "nobody" is commenting on Ruins... so far it's pretty good. Does nobody like it?

Around here it's considered a YA novel and my teen librarian just ordered Pathfinder and I'm a ways down the hold list for other libraries' copies...so, I'm waiting.
