I'll be damned, but it actually sounds like this movie is getting made.
I'm trying really hard to suppress my inner nerdling but man...that's one elaborate joke Steve pulled off or it is possibly moving forward.

If it gets made, one of you had better go see it with me in theaters.

If you book a flight up here I'll pay for your movie ticket.

And gummy bears/worms? Delectable gummy treats make any movie that much better.

Hey, if I asked for popcorn, you'd have to do quality control to make sure each kernel was properly coated in butter and dusted with the slightest bit of salt. Then you'd have to feed it to me. Be grateful, turkey.

The hardest part is adapting a classic novel faithfully. And I think before, people were trying to get too clever with it and change things that didn't need to be changed. Gavin Hood wrote an amazing script that is extremely faithful to the book, including the twists in it and the themes in it. And I think that will be the difference to getting it made.

Didn't have time to search much, but figured you guys might know. Have they released any dates or anything general? I'm assuming it's in development, so probably not, but still... just wondering.

The interview was interesting enough for me to link my non-P-web friends! So that's something.

Summit Entertainment (the people who brought us the Twilight films) is looking for their next franchise with youth appeal, and guess what they've chosen...

Read all about it
The film will be shopped at the upcoming 2011 Cannes Film Festival, with Nick Meyer's Sierra/Affinity brokering offshore deals. The plan is to put the film into production by early next year.
People... for better or worse this might really be happening.

Just saw it. Was going to post it here tonight (Beaten! Damn!)

So....who here still knows Lynn Hendee, or anyone at Digital Domain? I'm pulling in all my chips!

(sorry--that would be "Calling in all my markers")

Everything about that sounds good....except that the connection to Twilight and the "lets make this for kids" bit disturbs me.

I don't think we have to worry about that. Summit is looking for a potential franchise and one of the draws to this is that it'll bring together a large cast of kids in the 12-14 age range, which means that Summit will have discovered the next great actors and actresses. The ONLY connection this will have to Twilight is Summit.

I think it's encouraging and looks like it might finally happen. The weak link is Hood himself, but anytime an Academy Award winner is your weak link, you're in pretty good shape.

I can't find any specific new news on the movie, but from what I've been able to find through a variety of sources is that Summit has been able to successfully sell the ENDER'S GAME MOVIE'S foreign rights and Digital Domain is helping finance the movie here in the states. At this point the financing is in place, a director is attached, big time producers are on board, and the screenplay sounds done.

There's no official greenlight yet, but it sounds like Ender's Game is a go movie.

It's only been a week or so since Cannes, right? Hopefully some official news will leak out in the not to distant future.

OSC's talent managers are allegedly suing him over the Ender's Game project.

Haven't been able to locate the actual complaint, though, so no word of confirmation.

New casting and pre-production updates for the EG movie... Nothing major, just more updates. Sounds like production is set to start early next year...
What is the status of Ender’s Game and how is it going?

Orci: We are in the exploratory part of pre-production where we have people working. We have designers and we have all that kind of stuff to help us figure out the exact budget. That is what we are doing. We are budgeting it through R&D. We are in the research and development phase of what the movie is finally going to cost. We are scheduling and hopefully will be shooting in the new year.

Does that have any cast attached to it?

Orci: We just had our first casting meeting today.

This worries me. Not a lot at the moment but it will get worse if things actually do keep moving in the direction they're going.

Hopefully, any influx in members will be a positive, or mostly positive, change and hopefully we'll have a better site up by then.

Wow, very glad I came back here, I had not heard this news! I'm not sure how I feel about any of the things I've learned, and I'll wait until this film is actually in production before I actually get my hopes up, and even then I'll wait until I see it to make any judgements...

Hmm, saw Duke Nukem Forever come out this year at long last (not that I have played it or care to really, but I was excited for it when it first was announced fifteen years ago) and now the Ender's Game film might actually become a reality, too!

at the signing in West LA tonight, Orson Scott Card said that the financing for the film is almost entirely in place. They hope to start casting soon, and start shooting in February. He also said he doesn't really believe in any date until the second that cameras start rolling because hollywood is a slow process where nothing happens until things happen suddenly, very very fast and everything happens all at once.

This is great news. I'm just annoyed that I now have to log in to press the quote button. Are we running Invision now, or is this just a new phpBB3 skin?
