i think most of the movie should take place when ender is about 8....

those kids you mentioned are much too old now... :(

well that's what makes the casting so hard.

you have to find good actors who have never done a role like this before but would play it perfectly like the kid in "The Sixth Sense"

By the time the movie gets made, I think that Lloyd and Osment will be old enough to play Mazer

there are plenty of child actors out there with enough talent to pull this off. the problem is that when you find them, you have to get the movie made in time to actually use that child for the part.

Exactly, and that's kinda hard to do. They need to look for kids now who are too young, but can grow into the part. But that's hard too because child actors of that age don't have a particular style they use and they don't have major parts in the movies they've done.

ok, here's what we do:

watch all current movies with children actors of the correct age.
make a list of them.
find the perfect one out of our choices.
kidnap him.
do a walt disney on him. (some reason this sounds dirty)
wait 10-15 years.
thaw him out when they start casting the movie.

see, nothing to it.

Didn't Walt Disney crack? I'm pretty sure he cracked when he was frozen.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005157/ Jake Lloyd born 1989 makes him 17 yrs old. Go younger.

No, what ya need to do, seeing as it's hollywood, is keep an eye on these child actors, and by the time they're ready to make the movie, their kids'll be of age. Bingo, problem solved

I personally think that they need to hire an unknown so that people going into the movie don't have a pre-determined idea of what the kid's character should be, and so that the fans will be less judgemental becuase it is his first film.

Thats an excellent way to look at the situation. I agree that actors we already know will spoil the movie for us, due to our preconceptions as to how the character will be played. We have all read the books(unless some havent) so we all know how Ender, Bean, Petra, Dink, Peter and the rest of them SHOULD act like, and so does Card, who is like, the chief consultant for the movie. So I think, if the main child roles are played by unknowns, it will make it easier on us. Now for the adults, thats a different story, and a different thread.

The problem with casting kids young is that you have no idea how they will turn out. For example, Harry Potter.

'nuff said.

What's wrong with Harry Potter?

Daniel Radcliffe (?) SUCKS. I hate him. I really hope that the same thing doesn't happen for EG.

I don't know, I mean, I haven't really noticed him being especially bad or especially good...

Really. It always bugs me how bad all the actors are. Complete hams. Or retards...

Good thing people can say their opinions without any easily understandable reasoning to back them up, or the Internet would be a very boring place.

That's why they're opinions...

But, really, you could put forth a reason you think they're bad actors. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you; I believe there is a large amount of overacting in the movies. I enjoy them nonetheless, but I was inclined to agree with you on some parts.

However.

Just stating that they are "complete hams. Or retards..." does not support your position. You have had three posts to do so. Good day, sir.

Really, isn't that what happened to John-Paul and Teresa?

If they'd made the movie ten years ago, they could have used Carl Snell, who just about broke my heart as Glas, the Druid Father.

dwarfs! I would accept dwarfs over an animated mini-series.
