Complete speculation but... I guess with the Hollywood writers currently being on strike, depending on how long this lasts studios are going to become more and more hungry for (nearly) completed scripts? I am assuming that OSC is not a member of the screen writers guild and isn't on strike?

So, he actually IS a member of the screen writer's union.
