Music with Ender's Game references

Postby Calamity » Wed Feb 15, 2012 5:01 pm

Hey guys! I just joined this board yesterday--I've had the need to nerd out about Ender's Game (or, more especially, the sister series) for a while now, and I just don't have enough acquaintances that have read it. I figured this would be a great place to do it.

I wanted to share something I found; I've been a fan of/artist for a band called 'Tides of Man', and recently as I was going back over their music, I realized it was full of Ender's Game references. The music alone is phenomenal, but combined with EG? Augh, it's mint.

"And it had to be a child, Ender," said Mazer. "You were faster than me. Better than me. I was too old and cautious. Any decent person who knows what warfare is can never go into battle with a whole heart. But you didn't know. We made sure you didn't know. You were reckless and brilliant and young. It's what you were born for."

Check out some of their other music--you'll pick up on the references.

First of all, welcome to Pweb! So glad to have you. :)

Second, thanks for the neat find. I just left a message for them on their FB wall to ask if it was a coincidence or if they had a fan amongst them, so we'll see if they answer and if they do, what they say.

(Of course, you might have been saying you knew for sure and I just misread it as you strongly assuming. :stoned: )

Haha, I figured they were! I was just assuming it--I've started working as an artist for them and was going to ask if they liked Ender's Game, but it slipped my mind, so I'm glad you asked!

What sort of stuff are you going to be doing for them? That's pretty awesome that you get to work with folks whose work you likewise enjoy.

If you get any more info out of them (and you should definitely still ask!), let us know? We'd love to read it. :)

Thanks for sharing that!

Do I smell another interview coming on?

I'm a merch artist, possibly the album artist for their next album. We'll see where they want to go with it! I love doing album art, it's fun to have your art connected to great music.

And yeah, I'll definitely ask them about it! I know Tilian is leaving to sing for the band Saosin, but I can have a chat with the other bandmates.

There really are a LOT of EG references in their songs.

You already mentioned "Home" but I also found EG references in:

"Not My Love 2" by Tides of Man
"Only Human" by Tides of Man
"Create" by Tides of Man
"Chemical Fires" by Tides of Man
"Not My Love" by Tides of Man

Can anyone find anymore?

Oooh, I liked that. Definitely going to be checking out the rest of their music.

oh neat find Calamity! I will be sure to check them out....

I know of another song. Ender Will Save Us All by Dashboard Confessional is about how the main singer reconnected with an old friend via Ender's Game. Decent song...
