Telling the truth; Speaking for the dead

Postby ptr.arkanian » Sun Aug 14, 2011 11:50 pm

"It's easy to tell the truth," said Mother softly, "when you don't love anybody."
"Is that what you think?" said Ela. "I think I know something, Mother. I think you can't possibly know the truth about somebody unless you love them..."
-Novinha talking to her daughter and apprentice, Ela, after the Speaker has
uncovered the truth of Marcao Ribeira's death, Speaker for the dead

Who do you think is right, Ela or her mother? When is it easier to tell the truth?

Remember, "The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution."-Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

It's easier if you don't love them. Because if you do, you'll deny the truth if it's bad. It's easier to accept the truth when you don't love somebody, but you veiw of the truth is also distorted if you hate them.
