Shadows in Flight

I read in thi article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadows_in_flight) that OSC is writting a much needed sequel to Children of the Mind. I was wondering what the community wanted in it, and some confirmation that this isn't just another Wiki-hoax.

From Orson Scott Card himself:
Shadows in Flight will come after Children of the Mind but will include some loose ends from Shadow of the Giant. It's not properly a sequel to Giant, though.

That's interesting. With the name Shadows in Flight, I thought it was a sequel to Shadow of the Giant and would have some tie in to Children of the mind. But I guess not if that is coming from Card himself.

First, it's definitely not a hoax. Card has been dropping mentions of it since even before "Shadow of the Giant" came out, and as recently as just before the release of "Ender in Exile". Second, things that Card says about his books before he actually writes them often changes quite a bit by the time he finishes them. Around the time of "Shadow Puppets" I believe he said that Bean would definitely be dead the end of the following book. The entire novel "Ender in Exile" was initially supposed to be about what ended up just being the last few chapters.

Yeah I don't recall anybody actually saying Bean was dead. I wish he could have some amazing reunion with SOMEONE. That would be amazing.

So the date of publication is completely unknown?

Apparently. Frustrating isn't it? Like how nobody knows when the casting calls for The Hunger Games are.

So until that book comes out, my life will basically be incomplete.

We all suffer, hon. None of us are satified no matter how good the other books are. WE MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

A recent OSC interview:

An except:

Matthew Peterson: And I heard we might get another book also: Shadows in Flight.

Orson Scott Card: Yeah, Shadows in Flight is planned to be after Children of the Mind and a direct sequel to Shadow of the Giant. So, it brings the two series back together again at the end.

Matthew Peterson: Awesome. [laughs] Any idea when we might be able to see that one?

Orson Scott Card: They always make me write them before they’ll publish them, it’s . . .

Matthew Peterson: Oh, it’s just one of those things.

Orson Scott Card: They just insist on it.
It's nice to know that it's still coming at some point. You know, kind of like the Ender's Game movie.

I see some conflict: is SiF a sequel to Giant or not? In the case that it's not, my friend will be extremely devastated, as she is obsessed with Bean to the point of insanity.

CotM didn't have a really resolved ending, did it? I think another book is needed to tie everything together. Somehow. *crosses fingers*

From what I've heard, SiF occurs after CotM, but it will also pick up some plot threads left dangling after SotG. SiF will hopefully resolve everything.

It's supposed to complete both story lines, telling the fate of Bean and his children who left Earth and revisiting Peter II and the gang as they learn more about the Descoladores. Or at least that's what Card said years ago. His stories often change even as he writes them.

^ That's what I thought, but then I read the quotes by neo and Syphon...

Maybe they find Volescu and the Descoladores are linked?

I thought this would be ironic, if Bean comes out of his voyage and finds Peter in control of Starways Congress. "I come three-thousand years into the future and he's still ruling humanity."
This will most likely not happen, but I would love it if it did

I know right? How cool would it be if Peter came back? I like you already.

Welcome to Pweb.

What would happen after Peter dies... will he create another Bean? Better yet - another Ender?

Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 4:34 pm
by Peterlover14
Why the hell would he create another Ender, Sonic?

I don't think Ender would be very happy to be created over and over till the end of time. His auia will commit suicide.

Wasn't Ender's number one priority throughout most of his life to survive? His unconscious mind will keep that aiua reincarnating, because his aiua wants to survive.

by Peterlover14
But you said Peter would bring Ender back, not Ender's auia.

... And I can say that pigs fly. Does that make it true?

What does that have to do with Ender?

It was just a comment! You get off topic all the time!

Well pigs flying has a relation... because pigs can "fly" in a sense if they're on a starship.

 Quit making me laugh.

Humans are closely related to pigs. Therefore, Ender is closely related to a pig.

See the logical flaw?

 Sonic!!!

Heres more uh... BS.

Ender is a leader. The current President is Barack Obama. Therefore, Ender is Barack Obama.

Hahahaha The economy would probably be doing much better if that were the case, neh?
