How many of you came to pweb because you saw PhiloticWeb.net mentioned in the acknowledgement sections of one of the Ender books?
If so, which one?

I believe we - as a website with address - are mentioned in Shadow of the Hegemon (paperback edition)

Shadow Puppets

Ender in Exile

And, of course, the Authorized Ender Companion.

Since SotH's paperback edition up until now, I think Shadow of the Giant is the only full novel we're not in (as a website, that is - I personally am mentioned in that one ;) )

Just curious how effective that may have been with finding some folks in our community, and even more so for those that ended up staying around for the long haul!

If this is your first time here, and you got here from one of these mentions, please let us know! Thank you!

I knew of Phoebe because I saw it in one of books, Shadows of the Hegemon I believe, but I never bothered to make an account until Steve and Alea e-mailed me.

It was a good old fashioned google search for me. I don't remember when I noticed it was in the acknowledgements.

Xenocide wasn't even written when I first read Ender's Game! And I walked uphill both ways to school...

No but really, I found pweb way back in 2000 from the mention of the original launch on hatrack's main page.

Dogpile.com, the original awesome search engine. 2000 or 2001, and I made my account in 2002.

I found it in a book, but no idea which one. Shadow of the Hegemon, I think?

Definitely a book for me, although I didn't join until about a year after I read it.

Agreed, I remember when this place was first mentioned in the books and how awesome we thought that was. It's pretty awesome that the book mentions garnered so many long standing members.

Myself, I think I used Metacrawler but I'm not sure. It was a Loooooong time ago.

I think I came to the site once because of the mention, but I didn't join. I joined after my friend Sara pulled me into one of the chats. I can't remember what her username here was, though.

I was at the bookstore yesterday, saw the Ender Companion (which I somehow never ended up buying), and flipped through it. We're prominently noted, like, two times or so in there. I find it amusing that Scott refers to "The Kids at Philotiweb.com" (see here)- because, at the time we who were specifically named did all that stuff that shows up in the book, most of us were kids - just starting college, or just finishing High School (Ami and Steve being the exceptions - but they're kids at heart ;)

Nope.

I do remember after I joined the site I was just finishing a reread of the books and was completely surprised to find us in the back of the book. It kinda felt like seeing someone you know on tv, it was exciting!

Thirded! After I read EG, I passed it on to my kids. My daughter did a search and found Pweb than told me I had to check it out and join, too. It was during the first few months of Pweb's existence that we joined.

Same here. There wasn't a specific book that got me here--I think it was the repeated exposure that gave the credibility for me to check it out.

Too cool... I just pulled an all nighter finishing Hegemon, decided I needed to google a favorite quotation while in the middle of the acknowledgements, and got linked here. Signed up and browsed, saw this, went back to the end of Hegemon and... whoa.

I joined Pweb when I was in eighth grade! We must be Pweb twins or something. Except now I'm a senior in college...don't ask me how the years went by so fast.

I remember reading the references in several of the books. Didn't have interwebs access at the time (partly why I was Re-reading the books). I was looking up info about the movie and found several sites including this one, which I just joined! :hatsoff:

Don't remember which book but I first heard tell of PWEB through the back of one of the books, but then started hearing more people I knew who were also into EG talk about it and finally checked it out because of them.
