*thumbsup as well*

Also, don't worry about rushing to toon leader. If you like the place and you're going to be around for a while anyway, you'll get there eventually. Try to take criticism not as something to drive you away, but as advice on how to fit in long-term. For what it's worth, I like you and I hope you'll settle down and stick around. :)

Quality is always more important than quantity. Always.
Thats exactly why I don't post very often in the Foyer. Too scary sometimes. I've posted Religion and Moral Philosophy and in the Science ones, but I don't think I'm mature enough to post there very often.

Enough, guys. This is not what the FAQ thread is for.

Is asking what the FAQ thread is for a frequently asked question?

Right, because the worthiness of the rest of the 10 posts a day here might be diluted by such frivolity.

Seriously, feel free to post your internet pics in another thread. I don't care about frivolity, just not in the FAQ thread. It needs to be available for newbies to find out what the board is about without wading through endless pictures.

What was on the old Pweb?
In a word: Awesomeness. A brief history of Pweb:...
Looks impressive.
Wish i'd been here.
Too vanilla now.

The talk about crashes is a bit odd. Almost every board i visit has had them and none has ever started from scratch. No database backup kept?!

Reading this thread was a bit disturbing. Kinda sounds like nobody's really interested any more. Kind of an advertisement against the place as much as FAQ. :?

First of all, welcome.
The talk about crashes is a bit odd. Almost every board i visit has had them and none has ever started from scratch. No database backup kept?!
As far as I know, everything that was on the board outside of the forum was in fact backed up; the admin has it but has not done anything with it since the last crash (September 2006).

Reading this thread was a bit disturbing. Kinda sounds like nobody's really interested any more. Kind of an advertisement against the place as much as FAQ. :?
I'm not sure how accurate it is to say nobody's interested anymore but no one has the ability to do anything to the site while current admin is in charge.

I'm sorry if you feel less than enthused about us as we are but honestly, the forum has always been the heart of the place and it's been around for so long that many people have in fact lost the Ender specific enthusiasm that brought them here and now stick around for the friends they made.

If you're so inclined, stick around, be enthusiastic.

I'll likely remain fairly enthusiastic as long as OSC keeps writing. 8)

Whats the rule on fan fiction? And if there isnt one, is there any point in posting my 4 page imagining of the first encounter between the Descolardes and the other Ramen? i.e. Do you guys even like fan fiction?

I don't know how anyone else feels about it, but fan fiction is always a mixed bag, but unless you've been published on your own for an original piece or have some other compelling reason for us to look at it, very few people are going to be interested.

I've no idea what OSC's position on fanfiction is, either, but some authors do make it a point to suppress that sort of activity as authors have in the past lost their copyrights in court due to failure to enforce.

OSC's position on fanfic.

Card is very against fanfic, and we support his position. Sorry, Froth.

fan fiction posted here will be immediately deleted without notice.

in general osc is highly antagonistic towards fan fiction and will vigorously enforce his rights.

Such a shame. I wrote my fic solely for the ideas in it. The philosophical and ethical dilemmas. And also who the aliens might be. I was pretty excited to share the ideas. :/ It's not the same if I just tell you the possible scenario.

Is it possible to change the verification question for registering? I think the bots figured it out, seeing as 9 of the last 10 registered users are drivers and managers with ever so lovely ad sites listed. Me being blocked at work for "Spam" is making more and more sense.

You can also lend me a handle for deleting said accounts but that may be controversial; I know some were opposed to touching the memberlist. However, for entirely selfish reasons, I'd like to see something done.

We'll see what we can do. In the meantime, I can deactivate spam accounts and remove the links.

Scratch that. I just deleted them. Based on the email addresses used, it's just one bot. I don't know how to change the question, but in the meantime I'll keep an eye out.

So is there any chance of getting a new front page? I miss our old wiki/encyclopedia, art, poetry (shamelessly plugging the epic). I was kinda surprised when the www.philoticweb.net took me directly to the forums.

Pretty much no. Amka, who owns the site, has not cared to re-make it and has not given up control of the site.
