Ticket Stubs: What do you do with them?

Postby Gravity Defier » Sun Nov 11, 2007 3:41 pm

I've been reading that collecting certain types of ticket stubs has been growing as a hobby and have personally been collecting movie & concert ticket stubs as well as boarding passes since 1997.

As I was adding my latest to my collection, I got to wondering what other people do with theirs. Throw them, collect them, neither?

What do you do with your ticket stubs?

If you're like me and collect them, have you noticed any of yours fading? Some of mine are now just slips of paper that I have written on so the information is not lost (movie name, theater name, price, date).

Well, not too long ago I bought a cork board to start putting things like ticket stubs on. I have over 200 movie ticket stubs on there, train tickets, bus tickets, and theater tickets.

The ones that don't fit go in a box.

I keep my tickets in a small box at home. I usually forget to keep movie tickets, but I probably have about 20 of them from over the years. I always remember concert tickets, sports tickets and like brochures and stuff also. I looove going through them all. When I'm at home I probably do it at least once a month.

I take them out of my pocket and put them on my dresser.

Then, when I come across them again 2 years later, I throw them away.

Same, except sometimes they stay in my wallet for the 2 years rather than making it to the dresser.

Most ticket stubs get thrown away - some after 2 years on a dresser or desk, as Steve says. :P

If it's a ticket stub for a very special show or occasion, I do sometimes save them. I have a drawer with a file of programs and stuff like that that I want to keep, and I put them there.

Mine tend to sit around for ages, and eventually I find them again and relegate them to a box.

I have kept what I consider "valuable" ticket stubs, which mostly means it's sentimental. Otherwise, if I think it would be cool to keep it now I just scan it into my computer so I see it when the screensaver magically/amazingly brings back the past. It's a pretty cool trip through memory lane that way.

PS. My avatar is supposed to flap it's wings, but somehow it refuses to on PWeb. Hmpf. Maybe I need to find a new host site (I have Picasa right now)

Well the url says gif, but when I download it it's a png (actually it's both: DragonAnnimation2a.gif.png).

I use photobucket and my animation seems to work well enough.

As for my ticket stubs, go read Steve's post again.

I'm like Steve. Mine are usually on my desk/dresser or whatever for a few days until they are thrown away.

The image is actually a PNG, not a GIF. You just changed the filename extension; you need to actually save it as a GIF.

Mine go almost exclusively straight into the trash, except for a few that make a pit stop on the desktop.

They usually stay in my pants pocket. They later end up in the trash as a wadded ball of paper after my pants went through the wash.

Off-Topic note to the Doc (Mobius):

Thanks! I tried several sites, but when I used photobucket, it started working! I just couldn't remember WHICH site it was "supposed" to be to work properly. (I actually cheated and looked at the properties of YOUR avatar, even before your kind comment above. One way or another, it's thanx to you!)

Yeah, photobucket works, too. My avatar is hosted at photobucket, cause I did it a long time ago.

I have since switched to using imageshack for stuff like this cause imageshack won't let someone backtrack into my account and view all my other images.

Grateful Dead ticket stubs all were put in to a scrap book along with the set list for each show and any other (paper) memorabilia that might relate to the show(s).

I've only saved one ticket stub -- the one to Harry Potter 5. I don't know why, but for some reason it has some significance to me. I just keep it my wallet.

Movie stubs generally get tossed eventually.

Theatre stubs often get saved in the program for the show.

I don't usually go to concerts.

Museum stubs sometimes get saved. I still have my "feathered dinosaurs" stub from a Hatrack Con two and a half years ago.

Movie stubs normally always go in the trash, although they sometimes have a habit of being washed first. (I don't like to throw dirty things away :P)

As for program and museum tickets I tend to save most of them under the good intentions of keeping them as mementos; but they eventually always get tossed. I tend to live off my memories and am dreading a visit from "the Haitian" or the Alzheimer's in 50 to 60 years, whatever comes first. :P

There are a few occasions that I have enough common sense to think ahead a few steps and just toss the tickets ahead of times. :)

I keep stubs and use 'em as bookmarks. I use anything as bookmarks.....like candy wrappers.

I use lots of things like that as bookmarks, too. Not candy wrappers so much, but I have been known to grab a clean tissue from the tissue box when I have no other bookmark.

I've been using one of those Xbox Live free trial cards that come with some games as a bookmark for the past couple of years.

This reminds me of my "Things not to use as bookmarks when returning books to the library" post on my blog... perhaps I'll re-post it here.

I do that all the time. The only reason I used a kitkat wrapper was that I was reading The Worthing Saga and eating a kitkat at the same time. I needed a bookmark, so I used the wrapper. I also use those due-date cards..

I find AirNZ's self check in boarding cards are a great size to use as a bookmark.

Ticket Stubs mostly get saved. Some eventually get thrown out, others end up in my box of things to scrapbook.

I generally save my ticket stubs and put them in my journal. I cover them with packing tape, so they don't fade that much (unless I leave them sitting around for months before I tape them in). I have some fond memories of those tickets. Unfortunately, I went on an amazing date a couple of weeks ago and I forgot to save the stub. So depressing.

If you are that concerned about saving ticket stubs for the long term, you might want to continue using archival storage materials. There are lots of companies that sell them at varying prices.

Most of my ticket stubs are movie tickets. I put them in an envelope in a shoebox with other stuff.
