Fields of Gold. Both the Sting and Eva Cassidy versions. Sting's version is so sexy, but Eva's is DEVASTATING. Arguably the best cover ever recorded.

Motivational and with a good beat.
I don't know what "motivational" means. I also don't know how open to hip-hop or top-40 pop you are. That tends to be what I listen to when working out, so anything from Pitbull, Flo-Rida or Pussycat Dolls to this one by Enur, just to give an actual example.

But it's pretty well known my taste in various media is, oh how I shall put it? Sucky? ;) Cameron might be helpful here; he listens to damn near everything.

The English theme for Pokémon is possibly the most motivational song I know. It's not really a workout song, though.

Thanks everyone. Once I get my internet back at home, I'll start looking.

I think fast may be more important than "motivational" at this point. I have quite a few that fit my "motivational" bill. However, if the songs happen to have lyrics regarding how utterly kick-ass the singer is, that's a good thing. Basically, motivational for me is a song that makes me feel a little bit bad-ass. My taste is fairly eclectic -- and, weirdly, also very picky. That is, I can name songs I like from nearly every genre, but I only like very particular songs in each of those genres.

Songs that are more directly about "don't ever give up" can work as well, as far as motivational goes, probably -- maybe. I don't know. The only songs I really have like that are from the Rocky soundtrack. "Gonna Fly Now" works extremely well to lift weights to, but less well for the elliptical.

P.S., don't make fun of me for my Rocky soundtrack workout songs.

There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Clubfoot by Kasabian. Back to the Life by Spoon. They were on our soccer warm-up tape, and definitely qualify as "make you feel like a bad-ass"

Right now, I'm listening to Xing Guang by S.H.E. It's a Chinese group. It's a bit girly for my taste but my friend's got me addicted!

The Grateful Dead - Sugar Magnolia.

I was in such a cranky mood this morning, so I put on the Dead and everything was so much happier. They totally cheer the world up.

Obviously, I was too rushed to even write a note, Alea, let alone a track list. But I've got the track list for each cd, if you want it! Let me know, and sorry I couldn't spend more time making the packaging pretty!

Not really from CD/MP3, more like from YouTube: Gilbert and Sullivan's "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General". (I use this version to understand what the song says- it's so damn fast)
Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Gutenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs cavefish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do!

so, so much lately, but the core, the heart of it all:

Sia - Breathe Me Oh my god.

Anya Marina - Satellite Heart (feel free to ignore the Twilight plug. It can't be helped; the song is on the New Moon soundtrack. This girl is killer, though. I have always loved her, and the song is amazing)

The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling This is just a really, really, really great song.

Kirsten, you want this for working out. It's pretty inspirational, if you count positive as inspirational.

ETA: I've been slowly making my way through my music collection, trying to come up with an extensive list of songs to workout to. I'm afraid I've noticed I do better with anger than inspiration but you can always not listen to it.

Kirsten, I'm late to the party, but here's a few highlights from my work out playlist as it currently stands:

Stronger - Kanye West

Muzik - Knoc-turn'al

Dog Days - Florence and the Machine

Running Three - Franka Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu (This one's obvious, no?)

Wonderful - Gary Go

Now That You Got It - Gwen Stefani

Run This Town- Jay-Z featuring Rihanna and Kanye West

Twenty Five Miles - Edwin Starr. This is hands-down the BEST song to finish off my workout. When I'm exhausted and just want to quit a few minutes early I put this song on. I get through to the end every single time.

and every now and the I switch it up by listening to Girl Talk's album Feed The Animals which is available for "pay what you want" online (yes, including not paying anything at all). It's amazing.

I've been thinking for the past few weeks that I need to put that song on there. I love it.

Anger is definitely motivational :)

Thanks for the suggestions, Kelly. I'll check them out when I get home tonight.

Flyleaf. Listening to the old album before buying the new one.
"Red Sam"
There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you

But who are you?
You are the truth
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth
Saving my life

The warmth of your embrace
Melts my frostbitten spirit
You speak the truth and I hear it
The words are 'I love you'
And I have to believe in you

But who are you?
You are the truth
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth
Saving my life

My hands are open
And you are filling them
Hands in the air
In the air, in the air, in the air

And I worship
And I worship
And I worship

You!

As I Lay Dying, "This Is Who We Are"

Now this is who we are;
I am no one's hero
For we are not the giant men
That some may think
You are faithful when we are not
So I'd like to tell this story
The way it is meant to be
Without the burden that's in our hearts
None of us would have ever found You
For You are faithful when we are not
You began a work
That only You can complete

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why

...Why we're given grace we'll never deserve
And a second chance that we will never earn
For there is nothing I can do to save myself

Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why
But You have let me start again
I'd rather be called weak
Than die thinking I was strong

Baby, It's Christmas

urhn... My new favorite christmas song. It is absolutely a must buy. So very sexy and sultry and romantic. It's not plaintive but it makes me feel plaintive. Damn, all I want for christmas is that, the relationship thing. :(

and I'm not going to get one cause I am just made of fail.

Artist: Remedy Drive
Song: Heartbeat
Album: Daylight Is Coming

This is a drought,
Been living without,
The one thing I require.
What a mess, Passionless;
Somewhere I lost the fire.
Oh my, my
Where has it gone?
Can anybody turn this beat back on?
My heart is fast asleep,
Dreaming it could bleed
For something that's real
My desperate appeal
God I’m getting tired of the way I feel...
When I would rather be alive

I want to wake up!
I want to restart!
Put the drumbeat back in my heart
I need to be revived
Bring me back to life!
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh!)

Coming on slow, head to toe
The pulse is back again
It’s grace in my veins - replacing the pain
Bringing me back from the dead
Oh my, my - now I can see
You heard me cry, emergency
Screaming out for help
You saved me from myself
The fires returned, I’m letting it burn
There’s nothing better in the whole wide world
It feels so good to be... alive!

I want to wake up!
I want to restart!
Put the drumbeat back in my heart
I need to be revived
Bring me back to life!
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh!)
