I keep on discovering how much I love A. R. Rahman. Seriously, unless you have some huge philosophical objection to non-English music, you should totally look him up. Current favourites: "Chinna chinna aasai" and "O Mitwa".

(Is it really a double post if it's done several days after your first post?)

Currently alternating between the two versions of "You've Got a Friend in Me" - the original and the Spanish one (which sounds nice, even though I don't know any of the words)

I think my love for Lupe Fiasco might have been a summer holiday. He's still a lyrical genius, but now that I've gotten over the initial fascination with the themes of his music, I'm less enthralled by it.

However, I've just sort of discovered Radiohead and Johnny Cash. Not in that it's the first time I've ever heard them, but there have been a number of their songs that I've loved over the years, but never bothered to find out who they were by, and when I heard them identified later on I began to put together that I'd unknowingly been a fan for a while.

Too bad neither of his recent albums are looking like they'll ever be released. Check out Japanese Cartoon if you're interested in seeing a different side of him.

I don't expect I'll ever grow past my '90s music. I realize how much that means I'm becoming the '60s, '70s, '80s lover of yesteryear, but what are you gonna do? Hopefully the '10s will be prosperous musically, 'cause the '00s weren't.
Fugees - Can't Take My Eyes Off of You

You're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes off of you
you'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
at long last love has arrived
and I thank God I'm alive
you're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes off of you

Pardon the way that I stare
there's nothing else to compare
the sight of you leaves me weak
there are no words left to speak
but if you feel like I feel
please let me know that it's real
you're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes off of you

Chorus:
I Need you baby, and if it's quite alright
I need you baby to warm the lonely nights
I love you baby, trust in me when I say ok (it's ok)
Oh pretty baby, don't let me down, I pray
oh pretty baby, now that I've found you, stay
and let me love you, oh baby, let me love you, oh baby

You're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes out off of you
you'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
at long last love has arrived
and I thank God I'm alive
you're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes off of you
Stop trying to be perfect. Focus on being you; perfect will come.

Fugees - Can't Take My Eyes Off of You
Actually, that was off The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, not from her time with the Fugees. Either way, it's a good cover but a teeny tiny, teenage part of me likes Heath Ledger's version better.

BMG I think is the most emo music I listen to, though others may not call it that. I think their instrumental tracks are the only emo instrumental music I'm aware of :D

I don't know if this has ever come up, but I have kind of an unhealthy relationship with late-90s early-00s pop/rock. I just listened to some Nine Days (Absolutely (Story of a Girl)) and am now on Vertical Horizon.

If I could make it work in life
Like it works on paper
If the love that I describe
Could be anything but words
Then I would wipe my eyes
I'd dry this ink
I'd trade my pen in for a pair of wings
And I would fly
If only I could make it work in life

Infected Mushroom - Sa'eed

My new favorite song. I've had the CD in my car the past couple weeks since I finally got around to buying it and I often skip forward or back to Sa'eed. There's songs on the other end of the CD I rarely hear, though they're actually pretty good too. :P

I'm really appreciating Michael Jackson's new song, featuring Akon, "Hold My Hand." It's not going to be a classic of his, it doesn't have that certain something, but it's decent and just goes to show, he was good at making his music fit in with the times at the very least if he wasn't paving the way.

He's another entertainer I wish the public hadn't judged so harshly because his art and his personal life != related.

[Edit] And now I'm on to Dustbowl Dance from the same album, which is possibly my favourite song on this disc.

Hunter Valentine has my interest this evening. The Impatient Romantic is pretty good, and I picked it up after they played in Moscow. I didn't see them, but I heard good things. Anyway, I think I just have this love of very basic, power trio bands consisting of drums, guitar, and bass, and they do it very well. Plus, the lead singer's vocals are just kind of unique, I guess, and I like that.

How's that for a descriptive, in-depth review, eh?

Didn't think it'd live up to the hype. I was wrong. "All of the Lights" is freaking AWESOME.

David and I went to see Trampled By Turtles play at First Avenue on Friday night and fell in LOVE with one of their opening acts, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps.

I immediately came home and downloaded their album Backyard Tent Set.

The whole thing is great, but I am OBSESSED with "Closing the Doors."

Of the few Rush "love songs" I guess you could call them, this is by far my favorite.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzXH3ZW3Wik

Rush, "Animate"
Counterparts (1993)

Lyrics:

Polarize me
Sensitize me
Criticize me
Civilize me
Compensate me
Animate me
Complicate me
Elevate me

Goddess in my garden
Sister in my soul
Angel in my armor
Actress in my role

Daughter of a demon lover
Empress of the hidden face
Priestess of the pagan mother
Ancient queen of inner space

Spirit in my psyche
Double in my role
Alter in my image
Struggle for control

Mistress of the dark unconscious
Mermaid of the lunar sea
Daughter of the great enchantress
Sister to the boy inside of me

My counterpart, my foolish heart
A man must learn to rule his tender part
A warming trend, a gentle friend
A man must build a fortress to defend
A secret face, a touch of grace
A man must learn to give a little space
A peaceful state, a submissive trait
A man must learn to gently dominate

Polarize me
Sensitize me
Criticize me
Civilize me
Compensate me
Animate me
Complicate me
Elevate me

listening to various m-flo stuff. What is it with Korean artists singing in Japanese? -_-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDmP7yQlPHE

I love this song though.
-Because you protected this ephemerally floating world by your own hand
Now simply fold your wings and sleep restfully
Be wrapped up in an eternal tranquility, and love through all eternity

Sleep, by this hand of mine that gently watches over you
I remember you laughing, you crying, you angry
I will never forget for all time until my life is exhausted-

I've had this on loop all day.

The youtube quality doesn't do the song justice, but that's the only one I could find.

I'm pretty unabashedly fanatical about this guy. I've mentioned him once before (at least); he's a regular over at SR and I can't get enough of his vocal style. It's smooth. The song is "I Still Remember" and it's for the musicians' version of NaNoWriMo, FAWM. It's been on repeat over here, every night just before bed.
