He dislikes the Sox because they directly inhibit (he feels) his hometeam. I can never ever fault someone for loving his home team and wanting them to play well. Unless his hometeam is the Yankees. The Yankees are evil. Be decent and root for the Mets, for godsake.

Anyway, I can't be mad at him for valuing his hometeam over mine. Although it's often in poor taste to root AGAINST a team instead of FOR a team--I can see why he's doing it, and I find it acceptable. (After all, it's what I would do).

And the Yankees really are evil. Did you hear about the game in Toronto way back in the season when A-Rod yelled "mine" while rounding the bases so that the Jays 3rd baseman backed off thinking that another fielder had called it, and consequently didn't make the easy catch? That's how the Yankees win games. Not to mention throwing money around to stack their team, and they still can't win a World Series. Losers!

A-Rod's such a freakin' tool. He SLAPPED the ball of out of Bronson Arroyo glove in the 2004 ALCs.

oh yeah, and HERE WE COME, GAME SIX.

I totally blame Manny he stopped at first! And he waited like an hour to start running! No self respecting baseball player does that. Or maybe only the ones that respect themselves TOO much *rolls eyes*.

ANYWAY our defense was ON today! I'm totally naming my first child Beckett Papelbon.

And all emotion aside, Kel, I'm sorry to say that even after watching many a-replay, that was definitely NOT a homerun. If it hits the yellow line, it's not a HR and it hit the yellow line. If it hadn't, it would have bounced UP into the stands but it bounced back towards the field so it definitely hit the top of the wall.

But they won anyway, so who cares, right?

Ghah! While the Mets might not be as bad as the Yankees, they are still pretty evil. I'm convinced most sports teams that come out of New York are. Except for the Jets, and maybe the Islanders.

For fear of pushing Kelly's tolerance of my dislike for the Red Sox past its limit, I will resist the urge to comment on what I am witnessing in game 7.

Caught the last of the sox game while I was at the gym. Nice going Red sox! I was neutral on the series, I wanted the Indians to win because I love the Major League movies (1 and 2) but I wanted the Red Sox to win because I have a lot of friends in or around Boston (or from there, including an ex). Just so long as it's not the yankees I'm happy. The only Baseball team I root for is the cardinals, but that's my 'home' team as I'm from Missouri (we just don't talk about the Royals much).

In other news my USC Trojans put the biggest beatdown of the 79 year series on Notre Dame. In south Bend! hahah! thank God Booty broke his finger, or we'd be looking at a game decided by a field goal or less rather than a 38 point shut out. I imagine there are many an SC fan waiting to break another finger for him if that one happens to heal. Dear god don't put him back in. We've had a year and a half of the rest of the team compensating for his overall mediocrity (and people like Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett made him look good last year) and we finally get a good to great quarterback in again just as we're going up against the rough part of our schedule. If we play Sanchez against Oregon we've got a fighting chance of winning, if we play Booty, well, I'd say our chances are stacked against us.
My other college team is Mizzou which is having one of it's best seasons in decades, now if Kansas will just consent to lose one game before the Border War showdown in five weeks. Go Tigers!
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Because I have such tremendous respect for what they've accomplished this year (and I'll always, always root for whatever is closest to home in the event that home doesn't make it), I'm going for the Rockies.

Meaning once again, the team I am rooting for is behind and got a horrible spanking in the process.

Maybe I'm cursed and should root for the Red Sox so the Rockies will win.

In other sports news, my soccer team (as in, the one I'm coaching) has our first game one week from tomorrow. This is a bad thing, considering our season just started Monday! and we have to make cuts and actually practice still. Oy. Wish me and my little men luck?

I have no idea what happens next, but Jason Varitek crying on the field afterward made me take heart. I love this ball club, and I love my hometown, and I love THAT DIRTY WATER.

I never did think the Rockies could actually win the World Series. I'm still shocked they made it this far. So I'm not disappointed. I'm happy for you, Kel!

Local sports news...my 7th graders scrimmaged against the 8th graders and managed to tie it (before I made the mistake of making a goalie change) and had the most possession of the ball. After a few tweaks were made, the defense rocked it and the forwards were shooting on goal a decent amount of time. Midfielders? Superb.

I'm extremely proud of them.

But also very nervous for our first game. 2 days. Oy, I'll make it.

*double*

My soccer team plays tomorrow. The team we were supposed to play last Thursday forfeit, so we're going in 1-0. Once again, I have the first game nerves.

Also, I f***ing hate the MN Vikings. They somehow managed to not suck against the Chargers, who I have been following for the past...oh, 13 seasons?

My quarterback recieved a helmet sticker on ESPN last night for his play in our game Saturday.

He was involved in every one of 8 touchdowns (meaning that there were no running touchdowns he didn't run in... or defensive or special teams TDs. Also, he threw some awesome TD passes.)

Basically, yesterday was another day of heart-stopping Rice football. We just really love that come-back-from-behind stuff. Well, we scored in the first 19 seconds of the game (they fumbled the kickoff). We were ahead at half by 1. We fell apart in the third. Were down by 13 in the 4th... and came back to win 56-48.

My little men lost. *sigh* We had fun, though, and they tried their hardest so I have no complaints...until practice tomorrow.

Around here, I would just need to mention the city where our opponents were from and everyone would nod, say "Ohhh," and that would be all the explanation needed.

My favorite team in the world, which you've probably never heard of, just won 107-68, in 4 10 minutes quarters (which is less than the NBA). And that just brought me a whole lot of euphoria.

My beloved Rice Owls are playing a grudge match this Saturday against the University of Tulsa, but, really more against their head coach/our former head coach, Todd Graham.

The problem with this grudge match is that Tulsa has been flattening opponents left and right this season. And due to our loss to Tulane (ugh) last week we are no longer in contention for the conference championship. (If we had beaten Tulane, and UH beat Memphis (which they did) and then we beat Tulsa, we would be conference champs. As it is, if we beat Tulsa, UH is conference champs... and if Tulsa beats us, they are conference champs.)

So, Saturday around 2 central time, could you send my Owls some good vibes.

I really want to see Tulsa ripped apart.

(We are performing, perhaps, my favorite halftime show I've seen written in my time at Rice.)

Randall Munroe (the xkcd guy) had an interesting idea involving counterweights and being suspended below a bridge in a valley to simulate a battle room. I don't see how you could ever do that without getting the cords tangled, though.

Alas... we lost to Tulsa by a touchdown.

But, the MOB is getting the most love I've ever seen us get. I looooove our reviews on the Rice message board... and the Tulsa reviews are hilarious as well.
