Things that amuse you

Postby BonitoDeMadrid » Sun Sep 23, 2007 1:46 pm

I found no thread with that description, so, lemme try and get a thread (my first! ^_^) up and running.

Basically, write things that amuse you in everyday life, or things you just found out and amuse you, or...well, you get the idea.

Like the fact that today, I've found out that nearly all my English class has read Ender's Game (even my teacher- and she didn't know that the book has evolved into 2 series'!) and many have also read Artemis Fowl, also one of my favorite books (and book series') (damn, I don't think you write series+es this way..)...

We were discussing the book reports of the year, and my teacher, obviously, said "no Harry Potter." (that's a shame.) After people stopped asking why, someone asked about Artemis Fowl, which she said was "on the line" (between what you can write about, and what you can't). So I asked her about Ender's Game, and to my surprise, she actually knew what it was. And so did many people.

So I'm apparently doing SoTG for my report. And the best thing is that the teacher doesn't know we have it in Hebrew as well, so I can buy the book in Hebrew and do it more easily. And besides, knowing other people around you have read your favorite books is always fun =) (I just spent 10 minutes of constant writing ranting about an English lesson. Shame on me!)..

AND I'm also amused by the fact that Pweb, who was designed to become an Ender's Game forum, has become more of a "Smart people who didn't get into Mensa, because they're 4 IQ points behind" (except me) forum +some EG.

So..post it out!

Actually, Mensa is really easy to get into if you are a reasonably good test taker. They accept people based solely on submitted scores from a number of different standardized tests. For example, if you got above a 1250 on the SATs prior to 1/1/94 you qualify (I got 1370 in 1993, which is how I qualify). SAT scores after 1994 don't qualify but some other tests do. Anyway, I'm guessing the majority of people here would qualify for Mensa. However, the reason it is a big scam is that you have to pay $52 annual fee to be a member. Why would anyone bother? LAME!

Because for the low price of $52 a year people who you've never met will tell you that you're smart. Seems like a good deal to me!

Oh my, things that amuse me...

I'll just go with the latest thing, my piggy bank. I have never been able to keep a piggy bank long enough for it to rack up a good amount of money. I know i'm $40 plus with the one i've got going now. It also has me on the look out for loose change on the floors.

Do they take MCAT scores? I'm not sure it they would, since the test is probably 2/3 based on how much you know, only 1/3 of how you take tests. Oh, and since I took it before computer testing, how LONG you can take tests.

I don't think that MCAT is one that they accept. Here is the link:

Interesting. My dad would make it in off his ACT score. I did better than him, but apparently he got the highest score in his high school class. I wonder how much it has changed since 1989 that make it acceptable before that.

Anyway, med school tests = worse than MCAT, if that's even possible. Is this a random thread? I almost burst out into tears today I was so stressed, and I'm not really the cry-when-I'm-stressed type. Instead I laughed so hard I cried. It was strange.

Drat. I took all my tests too late to qualify. Drat and darn.

Oh well. I could take a WAIS-III and get in. Ignoring the fact that I've administered nine of them.

Back on topic..

One thing that amuses me, is that during my trip (which I've just returned from) to England, I re-read Shadow Puppets. AND, I found EL's name, in the credits. And then I thought to myself, hey, I know that one! ...well, more than I know the other people mentioned there.
And that was pretty cool.

I went to dinner with my ex a few days ago. His fortune cookie said "Just because your mouth is moving, doesn't mean that anyone is listening." I laughed.
Yay, I'm a llama again!

HBC's reminded me of the fortune cookie my friend got a few weeks ago: "You would make a good lawyer". I think that's the most direct fortune cookie I've ever seen.

I find it amusing when i see somebody with what i am assuming is their last name tattooed on their body. If i remember correctly there was a film pertaining to amnesia and tattoos, never saw it, but thats what i think of whenever i see that.
