I gave up on trying to get a lot of posts when they rebooted the board (the first time) and couldn't recover the post count. So I'm a "longevity-over-quantity" guy too.
Besides, I hardly know anyone on this forum now... although it's still nice to see some old familiar names! I miss some of our old bantering and deep discussions, too, but don't have time for them now that the "real world" has "reared its ugly head."

You are still remembered, though, even if you don't know everyone nowadays. When I joined (also on the first board), I recall being told that it was such a shame that I came after you left; that I would really like you. Years were spent wondering if you'd ever come back; and now that you actually are here, I've never had much to say.Besides, I hardly know anyone on this forum now... although it's still nice to see some old familiar names! I seem to recall being told that kenn was the first mod who was not part of the original group that created pweb. Perhaps that would help place him.Kenn, you were a very early member of the first board, correct?

I joined the day after the first pweb originally opened shop and as far as I remember, Kenn has always been around. And he was very missed in the years that he was gone with the Navy!

Yeah, those were the days! I still visit pretty often, but I somehow lost my gumption during my downtime and was never able to revive my enthusiasm quite the same way. It makes me sad sometimes and disappointed often, because I had a GREAT time, but as the song says: "I've lost that loving feeling inside..." or something. It's still a GREAT group, though, and a MAGNIFICENT set of books!
In fact, I'm wearing my original "The Enemy's Gate is Down" T-shirt right now. What a nice coincidence.
PS. HI LUET! Long time no chat... but I often think about the extensive chats we used to have and always wish you the best!

The simplest explanation is to say "get a photo editor that can make .gifs." They're an image format, the most common animated one found on the internet.
The long-winded answer is also an answer to the question "which photo editor can make .gifs?" Well, PhotoShop is a good bet, but only because it comes with ImageReady, and because it's (in my humble opinion) the best gosh-darn photo editor out there, so you get an awesome program while looking for that. Of course, there are two problems: 1) PhotoShop is expensive. I won't suggest pirating, of course, because several government agents patrol P-Web. 2) Making animations in ImageReady is complicated, in my opinion, again.
So Jasc PaintShop Pro is your best bet, most likely. I'm assuming you can still download the trial version somewhere, and there are a billion tutorials on how to use it's Animation Shop. So, in the words of Dustin Hoffman in Stranger Than Fiction, "Try to develop that."
And if anyone thinks I'm being an idiot and has a far simpler way of animating an avatar, go right ahead. I just finally saw a topic I've had experience in!

I remember those chats fondly. I opted out of the whole chat thing a couple years ago because it sucked too much time out of my life but I miss everyone that I used to chat with. I stick to pweb posts and emails now. It's really good to have you back here tho!PS. HI LUET! In my opinion, and from the short experience I had with ImageReady, I can say that for short animations- like, say, Ela's rabbit (or is it a bunny? or are they the same? or does someone actually care? XD)- ImageReady is pretty easy: it's just kinda old school- you gotta paint every frame, then drag it to the "new frame" section. Actually, doesn't get easier than that, IMO.The simplest explanation is to say "get a photo editor that can make .gifs." They're an image format, the most common animated one found on the internet.

But PaintShop Pro is good, too =)

If you say so, about ImageReady. I've just had bad experiences trying to teach people who've never worked in any kind of photo editing program to use it. But I could easily be wrong. In my opinion, and from the short experience I had with ImageReady, I can say that for short animations- like, say, Ela's rabbit (or is it a bunny? or are they the same? or does someone actually care? Well, I already own PSP, although it's an old version... I shall see what I shall see.
Luet... I stopped chatting too. Yours were the last real (lengthy) chats I had online. Nowadays, if I use IM at all, I just say hello to someone (Dad, brother, etc) and it's over. (Heck, phone calls are just too cheap to warrant long IM chats nowadays.)
Thanks for the help guys... now for the DIFFICULT part... animation of the animal!

I never chatted with you, Kenn, but I remember my chats with Luet - we had some nice chats.
I still chat. Mostly with my daughter, JaneX. It's a great way of staying in touch with her while she's at college. My son Shlomo has sworn off IM. The only way I seem to be able to get his attention these days is to message him on Facebook.
I do chat with a few other people, and I sometimes use IM chats as a tool for communicating with people I work with on volunteer projects. It can be useful, so I haven't sworn off it at all.

And yeah, doesn't get much better than that...(depends what you like, though.)

Ela is a very cool mom. She and her two kids stayed at our house during EnderCon. Her kids are cool too.
A few years ago at another convention that was local, my mom happened to be in town. My daughter had read Ender's Game. My mom was a fan of Alvin Maker. All three of us went and had a 3 generation picture with OSC.

Yes, I flew straight to Salt Lake City with my two kids to stay in the home of a woman I met on the internet. All my RL friends thought I was nuts.Ela is a very cool mom. She and her two kids stayed at our house during EnderCon. Her kids are cool too.
Amka and I, on the other hand, thought it was a shame we don't live close enough to each other to drop in on each other on a regular basis.
We thought Amka and her family were very cool.

Thanks, Mich... True enough, the avatar needs some work, but in the meantime I learned a few things about how to do it, where to upload it, and all about linking it to the site - and those were the MAJOR hurdles! Now it's just a matter of sitting down and actually trying to make it look better!
I used PaintShop Pro 7 to do the animations, since I already bought it way-back-when. It wasn't as easy to use as I'd hoped (some of the tools are just BAD or lacking) but it worked.
