Help Yebra Plan His Trip!
Ok I'm in Seattle, in a great ocean front hostel but that's not what's annoying me. As far as I can work out, someone has used my identity to register a website for selling horse boxes (I know because I'm getting emails in my name about it and my actual details don't get me into the lost password screen). Now, as my mum is both a horse person and a web designer, I wondered if this might be some crossover account I'd forgotten about from when I worked with her but nooo, not her apparently.
So this is both strange and oddly violating. And I'm stuck with a 7 inch screen and a time difference so there's not a lot I can do about it. Peculiar. [/list]

Ok, cool cool people who I met on my awesome trip, what's the deal with my accent?
I keep getting people round here thinking I'm American, not that that's an awful thing to happen, it just confuzzles me. This happened before I went travelling as well so it's not that I just managed to pick something up real fast.
Any memories? Opinions?

Wow. Yes, agreeing with the idiot sentiment.
Trust me, there was no mistaking you were from across the pond when you were in the great state of AZ. Ruben and, especially, Tracy (I'm assuming you remember them since she asked you every question under the sun about slang and ....whatever else she was asking about) could tell. My dad could tell. I could certainly tell.
Except for when you were singing. You don't just sing all the time there, do you?

Of course I remember them, they were fun! My god in LA I totally confused this girl talking about 'lorries'. How you live without that I'll never know. Coaches too!
Maybe I'll rephrase slightly, they don't tend to leap straight towards me being from far away, it's more that the accent confuses people and when trying to work out exactly what confuses them, they tend to move towards having a bit of 'merican in there. I certainly felt very British when I was over there (it sounds very grating compared to your cool ones). Maybe it just slips in certain ways that are similar enough that people end up there with a bit of mental rounding.
Given I've lived within the same three mile area of London all my life I'd love to know when I picked up something that seems to throwing people off so much. I need to see if it's noticeably different from the family next time I'm at home...
But I do do a lot of singing.

Coach is bus?
I either have vague memories or have created vague memories of being asked for a ride to the coach station. (Like I'd make you walk...)
Even given that explanation, I can't remember hearing any words/phrases that came out sounding as though you had a 'soft' British accent.
As for American accents, I'm wondering, how many did you hear? You were in New England, so I have to imagine it was possible to have heard a good three or four up there at the very least.
Accents are fun. I want a cool one when I grow up; mine's very...nondescript and boring. I think the most exciting thing I say is fleg instead of flag, but that's only during the pledge of allegiance; everywhere else it's flag. Probably why I break out into random (bad) accents around close friends and family.

Coach is bus, but not public transport buses - which are buses.
I wish I noted them down - I heard loads! It was quite fun in the bits where I was moving in small chunks hearing it shift. I suppose saying 'American' here isn't really helpful because it's such a broad thing.
I think I'm just going to have to conclude that something weird is going on, but nothing simple really. Ah well.

Ugh, I want to play whack-a-newbie about now...
You know, Alex, you could always just listen to me and move to the States. Then we could have crazy adventures every so often (minus my crazy family). I won't even try dragging you to any more chick flicks, promise.

I choose to interpret that as "I promise, under all that is sacred and holy and awesome in this world, that I will cross the pond and live in the US, so that I may have crazy adventures with you and any other Pwebbers who wish to do the same."
To which I say: good!
