I like Xenocide more than Speaker. I always have.

I'm with the guy on this one. I enjoy all of the books in the series, but Xenocide is definitely at the bottom of the list.

Xenocide is always the one, for me, where, when I go back through and reread the series, I always get held up for one reason or another.

Sometimes it's a simple as getting halfway through and thinking "Is it really worth the trouble?"

I like Xeno. Not necessarily more than the others, but it is quite enjoyable.

I actually feel that way too. I still love EG most of all, but it wasn't until I read Xenocide that I thought to myself, "Wow... this series is really something!". I remember going straight out to find a copy of Children of the Mind as soon as I finished it.

I actually read Xeno third: EG, ES, Xeno. It was Xenocide that got me hooked on the later EG books, which are a lot different from EG and the shadow books.

I do not disagree with Randall Munroe (or, err, his comics) all that often. But when I do, I really disagree. I was so sure that this was going to be one of those "happy ending" comics (like the MC Hammer Slide one) when I read the Xenocide line.

You are wrong, Mr. Munroe. You may not think we are many, but I have more faith in the human psyche. The fans of Xenocide shall inherit the earth!

Not really. I ended up thinking about both more carefully, because of the questions that would come up in Xenocide, and then thinking about how what I read later answered them. I can recommend it for anybody with a flexible, curious mind. It's interesting to say the least, and given the re-read-abilty of the whole series, not all that dangerous for a new reader.

I have three bulletin boards in my classroom to fill with something every year, and I was struggling over what I should put in the last one when I stumbled across zero's thread on xkcd. I read up, saw some decently funny math ones along the way that weren't too bad for jr. high school kids (one I liked and had to replace 'f******' with 'messing'), printed them and voilà. I'm done with that particular board for the year.

That is amazing. Sometimes I wish I were a teacher just so I could do awesome things like that.

That is awesome. (Though... I'd wonder if kids would try to "correct" the Euler's Formula one, but then again, I don't know how many Jr. High kids even know about xkcd...)

Edit: Of those, I think the bottom-left raptor one is my favorite, but that may be partially because of the alt-text ("YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?"), which can't really be represented in that form. Alas.

The middle part is completely unrelated; it's a poem about two types of students. I put it up in a desperate attempt to get inspired and didn't take it down later.

I like the top right one. But I have a question, haven't a lot of people run up a down escalator? I know I have and was disappointed that it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be...

I simply feel it must be said, at this point: "That kid is BACK on the ESCALATOR!"

At least Xenocide is her favorite. That book has some merit. If she said Shadow Puppets however ...

I liked Xenocide, but my favorite post-Ender's Game novel was Children of the Mind.

Frankly, if a girl is a fan of the Ender novels at all that's a big plus in my book.

I relate to that comic. "And to think I loved her." I've always said (half-kidding) that my true love will have to prefer Speaker to EG.

Xenocide -- I like better than everything else in the neverending series. But not better than the first two.

More mature and intellectual is debatable, what isn't though is that it lacked the brilliant crafting and emotional resonance of EG and especially SftD.

Add to that the absolutely terrible ending which was essentialy OSC saying "man, I've got no f****** clue how to finish this book, I wish this was a fantasy novel so I could just magic the solutions to their problems out of thin air."

Xenocide is my favorite, but I still agree with this. I haven't read them in a while, but what I remember liking about Xenocide was all of the philotic stuff; explanations, playing with what's possible, etc. So, for some reason that's just what interested me more.
