And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

Re: My Life in a Literary Agency
Thank you so very much!
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT.
Seriously, it's been three years of trying to get back to this and failing failing failing and I actually cannot believe that it has finally happened.
YOU GUYS. I WORK IN BOOK PUBLISHING AGAIN.
ETA:
Ok, now that I've stopped hyperventilating a bit, some details:
Financially, this is more or less a lateral move. I'll be making roughly the same amount that I make right now, which is just fine by me.
I start on the 21st. Hours and work schedules are fl exible. They like people to be in the office by 9:30. NINE THIRTY. Oh, publishing, I forgot how crazy you are (in a great way). Speaking of hours, THEY DO SUMMER HOURS AT LLEWELLYN. I had pretty much shot and buried the idea of ever working summer hours again after I left New York, figuring that even if I got back into publishing the Mid West wouldn't follow the same old school traditions that NYC did. OH, HOW WRONG I WAS. My summer just got a billion times more beautiful.
Llewellyn does Mind, Body, Spirit non-fiction (I know, I know) and has two fiction imprints: Midnight Ink (Mystery) and Flux (YA!). I'll be working in all three. A lot of the work will be the same as it has been in my previous agency jobs. Reading and editing manuscripts, contract and tax work, admin stuff, and now with the addition of marketing! Interesting!
I'm not changing the title of this thread, either, even though I now work at a publishing house and not an agency. The title is so alliterative and pretty. It stays.
Also, since I haven't said it in about a minute and a half: OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS.
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT.

Re: My Life in a Literary Agency
Kelly, I woke up today with a smile on my face for you (no, really). I'm so thrilled beyond words. I remember you slaving away, unpaid, in NYC for so long, then getting the job(s), then having to give it up. It's amazing that you get to do what you love in your new home with the man you love. It gives me hope that eventually, things will work out for us, too.
Congratulations!!!!

Re: My Life in a Literary Agency
My new boss just emailed me an agenda for my first week, starting Monday. I have an acquisitions meeting on my first day, during which I'm sure I'll do little more than sit in silence with my jaw on the floor, but whoa. It is so crazy to me that this is actually happening!

Re: My Life in a Literary Agency
Today was my first day in the office! I don't quite have the words, yet, to articulate that experience. It is a wonderful and...um...wacky? office without question. So so many things are different and so so many things are the same. My position is a bit nebulous at the moment, but I think it will all solidify soon. I'll have more substantial updates as the week goes on and my mind catches up with me. Hooray!
