My laptop crashed/died. My tech husband has been trying to fix it for hours now. I had been doing some general adaware/spybot cleaning, defragging, etc. and when I rebooted it wouldn't restart. Mark thinks it might be the hard drive (my computer had been freezing occasionally for the last month or so). What really sucks is that I can't find any back-up disks newer than 2 years old! I really think that I backed up more recently but I can't find any disks. The thought of losing every photo and document from the last 2 years sent me into such a panic that I had to take a xanax.

Mark still thinks there is hope but we'll see. Oh, and it's Vista. yeah.

See, it's not your hard drive's fault!

Still not fixed. We're taking it to my brother's house this afternoon to try to recover the stuff off the hard drive. And then look to buy a new laptop. I had this one for almost 2 years. It's near impossible to buy a new one with XP. So, we might have to buy one with Vista and install XP...like we should have done last time.

Do be careful with that buying a Vista machine, and installing XP onto it. Some machines don't handle it, too well. My buddy is the head IT guy at the company that he works at, and he had to do that. Had nothing but trouble. The drivers for that hardware just didn't exist, for Windows XP, because the machine came out after Vista was released, and XP was no longer officially supported.

I like XP a lot better, myself.. just be careful. Hate to see you end up with more of a problem. =)

look into dell, especially the small business laptops, they have XP options. :)

or you could get vista and upgrade to 7 later this year.

I agree with Steph. Being sick SUCKS.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

It's near impossible to buy a new one with XP. So, we might have to buy one with Vista and install XP...like we should have done last time.
Quoting myself...that's a new one. Just to update: We were able to recover about 90% of the data off of my old hard drive. Still have no idea what happened other than something magically deleted 2/3 of my hard drive. My brother used a free undelete program to recover it but about 10% of the files were corrupted. So, I lost some pictures and documents but it could have been much worse. Oh, and I lost all of my Firefox bookmarks. I feel completely lost online.

Then Mark wiped the hard drive and installed XP on the old laptop and it is now working better than ever. I didn't even have to buy a new one. Yay.

:-P, zero.

And, thanks, Nomi. I was so mad. Today went a little better.

Another thing I hate:

When the administration tells us on Tuesday, that we have 4 hours of some kind of "Practice Management Seminar" on Friday (2 hours from 8AM-9AM on "establishing and protecting your good credit" and 2 hours from 1PM-3PM on "student loans do's and don't's")... in our free time. They even cancelled a class and moved 2 others around. I'm ok with the 8AM session... but, the problem with them scheduling things into the afternoon is that those times are the only times that we have available to take care of chores at places that close at 5... so, to do things like go to the bank, or get the car oil changed, or go to the doctor. I have had an appointment scheduled to change the oil in my car for nearly 2 weeks (and I'm about 500-600 miles overdue, due to a lot of traveling since I scheduled the appointment.) I do not want to cancel this and then wait til next Friday to get a new one. I could even probably reschedule it.

But, mostly, I'm pisssed that they apparently have so little respect for our time. They harp on us about professional behavior... but, apparently don't care to treat us like colleagues.

Using "$$$" in a sentence (or something like it). As in "I'd get it, but I don't have the $$$". If you type that, your '4' key does not belong on your keyboard. It belongs jammed in your eye.

Uh, "$$$" doesn't substitute for "cash", it substitutes for "dolla' dolla' bill yo", which is, in fairness, much longer and in need of shortening.

When I read it, actually, I see someone making that motion with their fingers. Like, rubbing your thumb against your middle and ring fingers? Which would also strike me as annoying in conversation, but I've never seen someone actually do that in the middle of a sentence.

Tom Morello on the Hard level.

What pisses me off is I actually beat this, like, the second or third time I played it. Then today, after beating Slash and being all rocking awesome, I cannot beat him to save my life. I tried for two straight hours. And now my thumb and shoulder and back hurt like mad.

Okay. Strike this. Turns out, for some reason, Tom & Slash were playing on Easy while I was playing on Hard. When I re-inserted the disc, we were both playing on Hard and I crushed them both in a matter of seconds with my awesome skillz.

Another thing I hate: Installing statistical software for my dissertation on my computer and then having it crash the very next day.

Hahaha, that game can be so glitchy like that. Do you know the glitch to make Lou play on Easy, no matter what difficulty you are on? For some reason, it didn't make him any easier for me, but seriously, that game needs to take itself more seriously.

Son of a...

I currently hate Last.fm for testing out (presumably be followed by rolling out across the board) a subscription fee to play tracks more than 3 times. It's not a bad deal, $2.50/mo but you can't keep the song, it's a playing fee and if I had money to waste right now, I'd just buy the damn songs in the first place. I can always go to youtube, but I liked that this place could track my listening habits. Grr.

(I also hate that I felt the need to post this but I treasure my music.)
