Let me explain...

Postby eriador » Fri Apr 06, 2007 1:37 pm

I think we can keep the Douche thread light-hearted, self-deprecating and humorous. I don't think it needs to be locked. I know I'm a douche, and I have a feeling that any other douche here could take being called it. This is all in good fun. Are we really so uptight that we can't have a little bit of fun?

I agree, I don't think it needs to be locked. This forum can be too serious for its own good sometimes. Why not have a little fun poking at ourselves/each other?

The problem with it is that it has a strong potential to not be self-deprecating and humorous.

If it was simply something like, "are you a douche?" and people went in and admitted to it, then it would be different because people who don't want to be involved with it wouldn't get dragged in. The problem with the thread the way it was was that it was too easy to end up insulting other members who don't happen to share that sense of humor, or would simply prefer not to be called douches.

Would it be unlocked if they had to be self-nominations?

I don't know... I would want to discuss it with some of the other mods.

The problem with it is that it is too reminiscent of the PWEB Rhazzies idea, which was shot down for the same reasons that the douche thread was. On a more positive note, the thread made me smile when I read it because it reminded me of the South Park election episode.

Then why'd my thread get locked so quickly?

It got locked because of the fact that it could have very easily led to members being insulted. As a matter of fact, it seemed like that was the primary purpose of it, since it involved nominating other people.

As for it being locked quickly, that happened because a mod just happened to be at the forum when it was posted.

Yeah, John. Got that. That was rhetorical. But thanks for the response anyway. :)

I nominate John as a turd sandwich...

But the douche thread...just not gonna work...so drop it...
If John, one of our more leneint mods when it comes to putting up with bullshit, locks the thread...then its definitely not gonna fly...

And I have a long weekend with a hell of a lot of critically important things to do and if you are going out of your way to unleash any amount of hell, you will quickly learn what a real modhammer looks like.

Just a friendly word of warning.

Personally, I would have gone with "toolbox", but it works.

9.5 on the execution and 9.0 for style.
